25.01.2022 FLOURISHING It doesn’t happen in our comfort zone! There’s just no growth there. ... Flourishing only comes when we have the courage to put ourselves out there, to be vulnerable and risk failure. ‘Coz let’s face it, whenever we step outside of our comfort zone it does feel risky. But we have to start getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. It’s only then that we are free from the grasp of fear. The fear will still be there, but it won’t be dictating our actions. Instead, we learn to acknowledge the fear, and then do what matters. In a wholehearted way. If you’re freaking out at the prospect of holding the fear then get some help! There’s great books by @brenebrown (personal fave is Daring Greatly), @dr_russ_harris_happiness_trap (The Happiness Trap is also a go-to for me). Or if the fear is quite overwhelming then seek some professional help. You don’t have to do this alone, but change IS possible with support. #repost @ocdclinicbrisbane for the inspiration

22.01.2022 GRIEF AND LOSS Pregnancy and early infant loss is heartbreaking and devastating. A loss like no other. As are many others like me, who can offer a safe space for you when you need it most. @radiancesouthwest @gidgetfoundation @pandanational @centre_for_perinatal_psych We’re here, we’re listening.

22.01.2022 This is an excellent piece by local Counsellor, and organiser of the South West Wellness Symposium to be held here, in Busselton, on Saturday 31st October. Genevieve and I spoke about the role of community in supporting us all through times of stress (like the year that is 2020). That’s what the wellness symposium is all about - coming together to share thoughts, knowledge and ideas that can help us all to flourish. ... I would love to see you there! Please share far and wide. There is online attendance available too Tickets available via the link at the end of the piece below https://www.whycounsellingbusselton.com//this-village-ne/

19.01.2022 COMMUNITY Jst wrapping up after an awesome morning at the Radiance Network South West Big Pram Walk festival today. Mark and I led the way with our girls, and spoke to them about the importance of being a part of something bigger than ourselves. Of supporting families and helping others in community. ... It was special to see SO many people I know from different aspects of my life here - colleagues and friends, other volunteers, clients and their families. I’m SO grateful to be a part of our Busselton and greater south west community.

11.01.2022 FAMILY + COMMUNITY We spent this afternoon in celebration with the KatieYoga community sharing great food and fun chats Clancy's Fish Pub Dunsborough. I’m so grateful for the space that Katie and Dave have created where we can share our asana practice on the mat, and then share other parts of our lives off the mat. ... Where everyone is welcome.

09.01.2022 ALOPECIA This. Is. Me. Tonight. ... I visited the hairdresser yesterday to discover I’ve got alopecia. Again. I first had alopecia in 2010. Within 5 weeks (in those days my regular visit to the hairdresser to change colours etc) I developed a rather large bald patch in the centre of the back of my head. Completely bald. And I hadn’t noticed it, nor had ANYONE else. I was about 27, and not so self confident. We were experiencing a whole lotta stress, and the Dr told me that I needed to stop stressing in order to help my body recover from the alopecia. So, as I’m sure you can imagine, 27 y.o. me was extremely anxious at the research I did on the condition. What if I go bald!? It really challenged my sense of self, and my Ego-identification with my hair. 10 yrs on and I’m posting this on social media. You see, I am actually not anxious about discovering this episode of alopecia last night. It’ll either grow back, or it won’t. It’ll either spread, or it won’t. I’ll go bald, or I won’t. I’ve got no control over this. But the thing I can control is using my experience to help other people. There’s no shame in an auto-immune reaction. It’s your body’s way of letting you know that you need to take care of you. This has been my body’s response to 2020 - a pandemic, lock down, finalisation of a court case related to trauma, juggling parenting and the care of my clients with the needs of myself and my husband, as well as managing SO much change and uncertainty. And I’m still standing.

09.01.2022 500+ FOLLOWERS! So grateful for the support Thanks for being here

09.01.2022 RE-ENERGISING I realised yesterday that I was in need of some alone time. Hubby suggested I head to the #busseltonforeshore today with my kindle. Such a perfect day for it. So I’ve had a couple of hours to myself - @tarabrach podcast on equanimity helped me to find the stillness within, reading a novel has filled my cup with joy, and the warm sun and sounds of the ocean have connected me to nature.... I’m now ready to reconnect with family once again

08.01.2022 Dr Sarah Moore is another organiser for the South West Wellness Symposium. Check out her reasons why the symposium might be for you!

05.01.2022 COMMITTED ACTION It’s that time of year when school reports come out and we reflect on how much our children have grown. My contemplation has been on how proud I am of my girls’ committed action. ... Character strengths and values - persistence, kindness, inclusivity, courage, bravery, zest for life. THIS is what matters. And it’s what leads to a happy life. So when you are feeling disheartened in your parenting journey (we ALL feel it at times), see if you can come back to a bigger picture of your child. Remind yourself of their strengths and values. They’re little people after all

02.01.2022 SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE We’re here, we’re listening. You don’t have to do this alone. ... No matter what you are struggling with, nor the degree to which you are struggling, there is always someone who can help walk alongside you. There’s no problem too big, or too small. Maybe it’s your GP or Obstetrician. Maybe it’s your Midwife or Doula. Maybe it’s your Lactation Consultant or Child Health Nurse. It might be a Psychologist, a Social Worker or Counsellor. And if you are reading this and thinking I don’t have any one of those professionals I feel comfortable to talk to, then try @radiancesouthwest if you are living in south west WA.
