23.01.2022 WHEN ARTISTS MEET, MAGIC CAN HAPPEN When Wamberal sculptor Pete Rush met MacMasters Beach artist/author Nina Angelo, he got an idea. The title of Nina's book,... Don't Cry, Dance, about her parents who met at the infamous Nazi Auschwitz concentration camp during WW2, has been turned into this amazing artwork at Cockrone Lagoon (between Macs & Copacabana). Pete says he "nearly died of exposure" - spending five days immersed in water to create the masterpiece..."but the bird life kept me going". What do you think? Zee M Snaps

22.01.2022 By all reports.... that is every single one. I posted this one on Instagram today but I’m throwing it up here too because I find it so encouraging. This quo...te is from How to Raise a Wild Child by Scott Sampson. All the reports come back the same! We can be completely confident choosing outside time as a main activity of childhood. Remarkably, adults also thrive in the exact same environments that children do. And bonus - it helps the immune system. Nature time is a win-win-win-win-win!! All the reports have come back conclusive. *** Follow 1000 Hours Outside to learn more about the vast impact of nature play and a slow childhood. ***

22.01.2022 The Aussie Backyard Bird Count starts today. A great opportunity for kids and adults to participate in some citizen science, connect with the birds in your backyard and even get a bit of maths in!

13.01.2022 "Contrary to popular opinion, mathematics is about simplifying life, not complicating it." All you need is Love! .... . I Want To Know What L-O-V-E Is https://www.facebook.com/jain108academy/photos/1481984125320649 jain108academy.com

07.01.2022 Children love this time of year and pumpkins offer lots of opportunities for learning. Today I've used them for maths. Ordering, weighing, measuring, counting, ...estimating and comparing. All about the questioning, discussion and vocabulary. 06.01.2022 I've been studying a masters of secondary teaching the last couple of years and I've been wondering a lot about education, given the changing nature of our world and what skills our kids (and us adults) need for the future. Amongst other essential things like being able to meet our needs for survival such as clean water and growing food as locally as possible, caring for our local environment and other species, I've been wondering about the types of skills and attributes we... need to develop and re-member in our kids and ourselves. This report "Key Skills for the 21st Century: an evidence-based review " was prepared to advise the NSW Department of Education... It identified some of the key skills as: 1. critical thinking 2. creativity 3. metacognition 4. problem solving 5. collaboration 6. motivation 7. self-efficacy 8. conscientiousness 9. grit or perseverance. Seems like some good ideas... I would add connection to nature which nurtures physical/mental health as well as resilience and belonging - that we are part of something much bigger than ourself and we each have a small but unique and important place in the web of life. What do you think? https://education.nsw.gov.au//Key-Skills-for-the-21st-Cent See more
