24.01.2022 My mind is like a bad neighbourhood, I try not to go there alone! says Jack Kornfield in his talks, paraphrasing his friend and novelist Anne Lamott. After years of reading Jack’s books & listening to his guided practices, it was so exciting to finally attend one of his Compassion retreats in-person a few years ago. When I first tried to deep dive into self-compassion practice by myself at home, it really did feel like I had accidentally found myself in a bad neighbourhood..., and this is why I love sharing the 8-week Mindful Self Compassion training and exploring this together in a group. Here is one of Jack’s podcasts that a friend sent recently which picks up on some of the MSC themes as understood within a Buddhist context: https://jackkornfield.com/heart-wisdom-podcast-ep-19-buddh/ ) And here is the link to find out more about the next Mindful Self Compassion training starting 14th October on Wednesday nights 6:30-9pm: https://www.mindfulpresence.com.au/mindfulness-selfcompassi

19.01.2022 #neuroplasticity "The brain is like Velcro for negative experiences and Teflon for positive ones, says Rick Hanson, founder of the 6-week Positive Neuroplasticity Training, which teaches us how to soothe the skittish, wanting mind, while at the same time savouring and cultivating beneficial base-line states such as Safety, Peace, Contentment & Connection. Given the negative bias of the tricky brain and nervous system, we need these practices and trainings even at the best... of times, but especially so this year as we try to find our ground in unsettling times. Our small Online group will meet for 6 X 3 hour Sessions Online (including lunch break) each Wednesday 11-2pm, beginning 7th October & I'd so love you to join us: https://www.mindfulpresence.com.au/positive-neuroplasticity To hear Rick share more about this training: https://www.resources.soundstrue.com//rick-hanson-self-di/

14.01.2022 I know lots of us have been savouring nature more than ever over lock-down, so I thought I would pass this invitation on to count your back-yard birds for 20 mins per day this week (& my talented web designer & niece Anna Wilson does the beautiful artwork for Birdlife Victoria too. 10.01.2022 This is one of my favourite Rumi poems from the 13th-century, & inspires me to "ride the COVID storm" & keep sharing what I love, even if not in person for now. I hope the Spring is bringing a fresh opportunity to "let the beauty you love be what you do" ...

07.01.2022 I have just 2 places left in the next Online Mindful Self Compassion training (MSC), starting next Wednesday 14th October & would love you to join: https://www.mindfulpresence.com.au/mindfulness-selfcompassi To find out more about both the softer AND more active, assertive aspects of compassion, listen to MSC co-founder Kristin Neff explore "The Yin & Yang of Self-Compassion" in this 1 hr podcast with Tami Simon. https://podcasts.apple.com//kristin-neff-the-/id307934313... Apple Podcasts Preview Kristin Neff: The Yin and Yang of Self-Compassion Sounds True: Insights at the Edge Religion Kristin Neff is an associate professor at the University of Texas and the author of Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself. With Sounds True, she has recently published the audio program The Yin and Yang of Self-Compassion. In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon speaks with Kristin about why it's so difficult for so many people to treat themselves with actual compassion. Kristin explains that self-compassion is not some form of self-indulgence or excuse for bad behavior; indeed, there are actually various forms of self-compassion that arise in different situations. Tami and Kristin explore the roots of wrathful or angry self-compassion, including the mythological figures that embody this concept. Finally, they discuss the most common blocks to self-assertive compassion and the necessity of taking occasional "self-compassion breaks" to cultivate a better relationship within.
