23.01.2022 Good Morning all, Due to this inclement weather we have decided to work from home today. As some staff have to drive a bit of distance to get to work, we have told them it is way to dangerous to be out and about on the roads. Stay safe during this weather event everyone.

23.01.2022 Good afternoon families and friends of Mindle Bygul, well another week is ending, and we are working consistently to support our families meet their aspirations and needs. We hope that you all have a safe and relaxing weekend and are looking forward to the prospect of new and exciting things in the days to come. Just a quick reminder that culturally aware and respectful practice needs to be embedded throughout all services for all our families. First Nation Peoples are not... an ‘add on’ and that pivotal to the success of working effectively with families is to understand historical and intergenerational impacts on the aspirations and needs of Aboriginal families. We all need to demonstrate recognition of our Peoples unique status as First Peoples, which in turn will assist in building respectful relationships and partnerships. If we can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact our office on 3293 0232. See more

19.01.2022 MINDLE BYGUL ABORIGINAL CORPORATION CERTIFICATE OF ABORIGINALITY Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation is approached daily to provide Certificates of Aboriginality. This is a legal document that we will be able to provide shortly. However, Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation takes the responsibility of confirming Aboriginality very seriously and are only able to consider cases where the applicant family is known to our Board of Directors. There are eligibility criteria that mus...t be met to be eligible to secure a Certificate of Aboriginality and to apply you must be able to satisfy all three parts of the legal definition which are as follows: Aboriginal descent: the applicant can prove that a parent is of Aboriginal descent (a family tree is to be completed and supporting document is required) and The Applicant must identify as Aboriginal and complete a declaration attesting to this; and The Applicant must be accepted as Aboriginal by the Aboriginal Community in which they live (the applicant must supply one letter of verification from a known Community Member, who are not relatives of the applicant). Please note that we will not be providing Certificates of Aboriginality for Peoples of Torres Strait Islander descent, we do not have the cultural capacity to do so, we cannot provide for students applying to universities that have not identified previously, and that there will be a cost of $25 per application to assist with covering the costs of the process no exceptions! Please note that this is not a quick process, the application must go to a Board of Directors meeting to be considered and ratified and this can take up to one month, depending on the date of the Board of Directors meeting. If we can assist, please contact us on 3293 0232. See more

10.01.2022 What an amazing 2020 NAIDOC Celebration in Deception Bay we had today. So wonderful to see all the families out and enjoying the day. Also wonderful to see all our Elders out and enjoying each other’s company in the Elders Tent. So many People to Thank for making today so great. But we are worn out and need a rest so we will get to that next week.

10.01.2022 A few photos from our Community Hamper Day today in Deception Bay. Thank you to The Gubbi Gubbi Dancers, Muslim Charitable Foundation, Muslim Aid Australia and Brothers in Need, and the surprise visit from the amazing Roger Knox, who sang a few songs for us. Was a wonderful day, despite the rain trying to ruin it.

06.01.2022 Pearl Mary (Gambanyi) Gibbs (1901-1983), was born in 1901 at La Perouse, Sydney, younger daughter of Mary Margaret Brown, who was born in Brewarrina to Maria, a...n Aboriginal woman of the Ngemba or Muruwari language, and a white station worker, George Brown. In 1930, Gibbs helped run a camp to support unemployed Aboriginal workers, and in 1933 she organised a strike for Aboriginal pea-pickers. She was one of the first members of the APA, and attracted large crowds when she gave speeches in the Domain in Sydney. She began to work with APA president Jack Patten and secretary William Ferguson, and in 1938 she was involved with organising the Day of Mourning protests, which at the time was the most significant Aboriginal civil rights demonstration in Australia. She was a spokesperson for the Committee for Aboriginal Citizen Rights, the lobby group which was set up to carry on the work of the Day of Mourning Congress. Later in 1938 she succeeded Ferguson as secretary of the APA, and she held the position until 1940. In 1941, Gibbs made the first radio broadcast by an Aboriginal woman, on the station 2WL in Wollongong. Her speech was on Aboriginal civil rights, and carefully scripted so that it would be allowed on the air. Much of Gibbs' early work was done during a time when Aboriginal people were subject to controls on their movement, unless they had an exemption certificate from the relevant protection board. Police would also monitor all public civil rights demonstrations. In 1993, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) released their file on Gibbs to the National Archives of Australia. The file included records of which political meetings Gibbs had attended, and clippings of newspaper articles in which she had been mentioned. Gibbs spent much of her adult life in Dubbo. In 1946, she and Ferguson established a branch of the Australian Aborigines' League in Dubbo, and she was the vice-president and later secretary of the branch throughout the 1940s and 1950s. Later, in 1960, Gibbs set up a hostel to care for the families of Aboriginal hospital patients in Dubbo. From 1954 to 1957, Gibbs was the only Aboriginal member of the New South Wales Aborigines Welfare Board, and she was the only woman to ever serve on the board. In 1956 she was a co-founder, along with Faith Bandler, of the Australian Aboriginal Fellowship (AAF), which was a mainly urban organisation designed to facilitate cooperation between Aboriginal political groups and white people sympathetic to the cause. Gibbs was able to use the AAF to develop connections with the trade union movement in New South Wales. Gibbs continued to be politically active throughout the 1970s, including supporting the establishment of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. She forged important links between the Aboriginal movement and other progressive political groups, notably the women's movement. Gibbs died in Dubbo in 1983. 05.01.2022 RIP CATHERINE TOBY 27/08/2020 Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation is so sad to say goodbye to our long-time friend and family member Catherine Toby. Catherine left us suddenly on 27/08/2020 and the void she has left behind will never be filled. Catherine for many years was our Artist in Residence for Murriajabree, she was part of our NAIDOC, part of our community, and she was our friend. Catherine was an incredibly unique and rare person, full of love, laughter and li...ght. She has left behind her many children and grandchildren and they will miss her so. We will miss her wandering through the Deception Bay community, and we miss her extraordinary gift as an artist and her ability to love and laugh. They say there is a reason, They say that time will heal, But neither time nor reason will change the way we feel. No-one knows the heartache, That lies behind our smiles, No-one knows how many times, We will break down and cry. We want to tell you something, There was never any doubt, You were so wonderful to think of, Now impossible to live without. Catherine will be laid to rest in Mount Morgan, her children and grandchildren are in our thoughts and our hearts. Catherine was taken to soon, however she will forever remain with us in our hearts. Debra and Lynda and The Board and Staff of Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation

03.01.2022 Pre-order your copy of Educator Yarns now: https://buff.ly/2XlfeHj We have worked with some incredible Educators to bring their stories together to demonstrate ...how embedding an Aboriginal perspective in early childhood education is possible. Educator Yarns is a collection of relatable stories from the heart of our profession. This sharing aims to build educators cultural confidence and capability, equipping one to approach the inclusion of Indigenous perspectives with vigour and bravery. There is no book or magic wand that will ever eliminate the possibility of getting it or doing it wrong. However, the journeys revealed throughout these chapters yarn about the processes and dispositions required to embark on this venture respectfully, meaningfully and with integrity. Educator Yarns shares the experiences of many educators brought together by author and Director of the Koori Curriculum, Jessica Staines. Reflections by Jessica can be found weaved throughout the pages provoking educators to think, feel and delve deeper
