12.01.2022 I met a young person recently; statistically they were destined for addiction, dysfunctional relationships and would likely experience incarceration. When I met with them, my heart just knew that they would be different. You see, services often focus on those that are most likely to succeed. And those with anti-social trajectories are often "managed" through intervention services. This young person was so motivated for change, and each ...week, I prioritised loving all the hopeful things about them. When they would tell me the things they had done, I would remind them they I believe that they are worthy of a good life. When they would question their likeliness for success, I would remind them that they had already succeeded by just wanting different. They continue to make decisions based on what they know, but more often than not, they will make choices that lead them further away from the life they were born into and closer to the life they deserve.
