25.01.2022 We often get more women than men participating in Mindset for Life, but when men do take part, they tend to get a LOT out of it. Today we hear from Greg who did the program in July 2019 and is still actively involved in the network, including recently hosting some Zoom conversations for us. Thanks Greg! "I found the Mindset for Life program both refreshing and innovative for helping participants look past the end-of-working-life "retirement cliff". The activities exploring skill inventories, mental attitudes and mindset developed over a lifetime is great for understanding the rich set of opportunities facing retirees. Everyone gets to think about their circumstances and their future and I recommend it to anyone considering a transition away from paid work - regardless of their age."

25.01.2022 Day four and today we hear from Bernie, who completed the program last year and is now a peer convenor with Mindset for Life. The program is running throughout September in the NW metro area of Adelaide, with peer convenors like Bernie who have all completed the program themselves. Head to www.mindsetforlife.com.au/events for details. "I did Mindset for Life 12 months on from leaving the full time workforce. I had reached a stage of wondering. Was the rest of my life going t...o be like this? Was the ‘r’ word really something I simply had to settle into or for? Did I have any choices? While not everyone experiences my issues, I was beginning to feel bored and uncertain about the future. Mindset for Life gave me opportunity to listen to peer experiences, gain ideas and simple tools to not only think about the questions arising for me but take action. I have subsequently opened up to the possibility of freelancing life and I am now taking up opportunities as they come along. This freedom to define my own future has gifted me with many benefits from part time work to travel. I highly recommend Mindset for Life because it’s not just the usual financial management stuff rather making the future you want." See more

24.01.2022 Mindset for Life participant voice #5: thanks Katrina! "Mindset for Life has assisted me to think intentionally about my attitudes to ageing and take some actions to build new connections and set up some daily habits for my physical health and well-being. The ongoing network, peer conversations and encouragement are positive attributes of the program."

24.01.2022 This made me think of you all...!

23.01.2022 Office for Ageing Well is funding the work of Mindset for Life and has completed statewide conversations, that explored what ageing well looks like and what gets in the way. Read what they say about us on page 39 Participants identified three priorities: Home and community (there is no place like home); Meaningful connections (the key to a good life); and Navigating change (building resilience). The SA Plan for Ageing Well 2020-2025 is now available for download.

10.01.2022 Let's start the week with some inspiration from Irene, who completed the Mindset for Life program in 2019: "Mindset for Life has made me realise that retirement is not a static thing. Retirement is a journey in fun, growth, self discovery, friendship and giving, and if what you are doing isn’t meeting your needs and making you feel happy and fulfilled, try something new! Mindset for Life provided a unique opportunity to reflect on my life and presented strategies and ideas for moving into retirement in a productive and positive manner. It has been great to meet like-minded people who are actively engaged in retirement."

07.01.2022 The Mindset for Life program will be running in three locations in the north western suburbs of Adelaide and online in September thanks to a partnership between City of Salisbury, SA, Australia, City Of Charles Sturt, City of Port Adelaide Enfield, City of Playford and Think Human! Please share with anyone you know who is thinking about or currently navigating retirement. Full details at https://mindsetforlife.com.au/events/

07.01.2022 On Tuesday August 11th, Mel Lambert presented a description of the Mindset for Life program, 'Interested in Mindset for Life but not sure if it's for you?. The 15 minute presentation was aimed at people considering participation in the program, with the offer to elaborate on content or answer any questions that people may have via email or phone. This is the video recording of the Zoom based meeting.

06.01.2022 We've recently asked people to share what they've gained from Mindset for Life. We'll share someone's feedback each day for the next ten days or so... enjoy! Today it's Carol, who completed the program via video conference in June: "After losing confidence and direction when leaving work, I found Mindset for Life introduced me to a community of intelligent, curious and creative people my age with similar goals. The program and discussions opened my mind to the multitude of o...pportunities available to people in retirement. They helped me to appreciate and value the skills I have gained over a life time of work. I am now looking into collaborating with other like-minded people, to develop a start-up business. "The result of the program is that I have a renewed confidence in my abilities, I hold my head higher, have a big smile on my face knowing I've joined a movement that cannot be ignored. Older people changing the face of retirement, providing valued expertise, supporting and building the economy and proudly refusing to be invisible".

03.01.2022 Apologies for the break in our participant voice series - blame a few days of leave. Here is Wendy to pick up the baton again: "I completed the Mindset for Life program and met many other people who were commencing their retirement journey. It was an educational program in many ways and reinforced the importance to me of remaining connected with the community. Many discussions were held regarding the importance of health and exercise and various volunteer opportunities whi...ch I found very valuable. It opened everyone's eyes to the benefits of volunteering and I was encouraged to look for opportunities available to me. During the Covid lock down, Mindset for Life started some Zoom discussion meetings on-line. This enabled me to understand how to enjoy Zoom conversations with my family in Melbourne and I am very grateful for the assistance. The participants in the Zoom group are enjoying the connection so much that it is has continued to be held twice each week and I find it stimulating and thought-provoking and look forward to it every week. I feel very fortunate to have attended the Mindset for Life program at Pasadena and would highly recommend it for anyone soon to retire as well as those who are already retired. They would find it very beneficial."

01.01.2022 Day two of our participant voice series: today it's Celeste's turn. I loved Mindset for Life because it helped me recognise when I was thinking ‘old’ or limiting thoughts. The sessions got me to think about my ‘tiny habits’ and now I am watching far less TV and reading much more. My brain is very happy with this change. The workshop was a timely reminder that we are responsible for our attitude and I find myself saying ‘I can’t’ much less. This is helpful because soon I face the daunting prospect of selling my home and downsizing.
