23.01.2022 Great weekend at the MDDA retreat. Some great conversations and really inspiring people - especially some of the young people with metabolic disorders who had really grounded, practical and healthy approaches to their treatment. 05.01.2022 I am really working on encouraging my daughter to manage as much of her condition as she can at this age (5). What ideas to you have for encouraging self management in little ones?
04.01.2022 An interesting paradox came out of my recent discussions with parents of children with a chronic conditions and I think it is a paradox for all parents. Most parents (and health professionals) observe that being quite strict about adherence to a health regime is likely to encourage compliance through the teenage years but research shows that parents who are controlling because of anxiety cause their children to be anxious and less likely to comply. I'd love to hear from parents how they find the balance between enforcing clear boundaries and not being controlling. What do you think?
