25.01.2022 I do not live in America but, this goes across the world and @justinlong has said it perfectly #blacklivesmatter #Repost @justinlong with @get_repost Every year on the night of my birthday, like many people probably do, I sit with my thoughts and take stock of my life and the gratitude I have for it. But tonight Im thinking about other lives, those who cant spend anymore birthdays with family and friends: Im thinking about George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arb...ery. Im thinking about Anthony Crawford, Laura and LD Nelson and Berry Washington. Im thinking about Emmett Till. Ive been struggling with how to unpack and articulate my feelings about the complexities of this weeks events. But at the heart of it is a very simple truth: many men and women have died because they dont have skin that looks like mine. And many more have been made to feel afraid and inferior because of that one fact. For the rest of my life, I will never truly be able to know how that feels. When it comes to feeling unfairly judged at a glance, my skin affords me the luxury of ignorance. I will NEVER understand. But I will also never stop seeking out and respecting the experiences of others or the sacrifices others have made. Ive never visited the Mississippi Freedom Trail. Id like to. Ive never visited the home of W.E.B. Du Bois though its not far from my own home. Id like to learn more about him. And about Ida B Wells. Id like to learn more about the true, unfiltered history of our country - to try and understand the roots of the hate that lynched Emmett Till and drove that cops knee into George Floyds neck. That video so many of us watched was among the most horrific, subhuman things Ive ever witnessed. Its forever seared into my memory. Itll forever stir in me a deep primal outrage - as it should, as the photos of Emmett Till should. The harsh uncomfortable truth is that for too long in this country black lives have not been treated with dignity and respect. I hope to start seeing clients in March for children’s sand and play therapy after completing a course focusing on autism and play therapy. Play and sand tray therapy can help children between 3-12 years of age with anxiety, trauma, autism behaviours and much more. As part of my therapy we can also look at diet and any allergies or intolerances. The gut is another brain so we should treat it the same . As a human race we’ve always put our physical health as top priority and this is no exception although I also think you should prioritise your mental health way more than is the norm. Our guts produce neurotransmitters just like the brain down. Notably it produces serotonin and dopamine which are closely related to our moods, anxiety and depression so, it makes sense if our gut isn’t happy then neither is our brain! I’ll see how I feel after using this for a bit and then I might add some of the plain powder to the kids smoothies to give them a helping hand too. Watch this space....
10.01.2022 Im thinking that maybe it would be helpful if I did some recordings to help emotions and feelings that have come about due to COVID-19 Perhaps like a meditation with visualisation that you can listen to anytime you need We are all going through this pandemic together and it is nice to know others are having big feelings too . The group could be a place where we can check in on each other, share our thoughts and Ill post the recordings along with tips for ro...utines and food etc based on what everyone is needing. It could be a private Facebook group via donation. It would definitely be whatever you can afford to have access (maybe $10 max) and even $0.10 would be perfectly fine as we are all in different situations right now and it would be anonymous. Right now, the medical community is terrified as we watch many who are not socially distancing or even attempting to. Heres why, you as a young person, should care about the current COVID-19 situation. If COVID-19 cases suddenly spike, if we allow this to spread ...rapidly through the community (by not socially distancing, washing hands etc) then we suddenly have a huge number of cases. See my flatten the curve post if we spike suddenly in case numbers, the health care system struggles, ICU beds get filled rapidly. Young people need ICU beds too when they are injured in a car accident, when they get severely burnt, when they sustain a head injury, when they suffer complications after childbirth. Young people, like you, need ICU beds sometimes and if the beds are filled with patients suffering from COVID-19 complications, if there is no room, if hospital systems are stretched, then YOU may not get one of the ICU beds you need- and let me be blunt, that can be fatal. Its not just about the elderly like many believe but we need to protect them and the vulnerable (like immunocompromised patients) too. Social distancing canning the non-essential birthday parties/hens days/flights, staying 1.5M from people is not JUST to protect the vulnerable, its to protect us ALL. Its to flatten the curve so that we DO have hospital and ICU beds for everyone and a health care system that can cope. Please share so people know we all need to be in this together. The reason I chose two is because I am very drawn to helping young innocent children as well as mental health and I could not choose JUST one!
