20.01.2022 So far all that anyone outside the Rinehart camp knows is that Roy Hill will cost $US10 billion ($A11 billion) to build and grow into a mine producing 55 million tonnes of ore per annum. Said quickly and it sounds easy, though there is rarely anything easy about developing a new mine, especially at a time of erratic iron ore prices and uncertain labour relations. Before looking at the difficulties ahead it’s worth considering the positive aspects of Roy Hill and the structure... of the project Rinehart and her partners have designed. The ore resource is substantial, measured at 2.42 billion tonnes assaying between 50% and 55% iron with 1.16Bt above the 55% iron-content level. Impurities in the Marra Mamba orebody are said to be low. The location, roughly 300km due south of Port Hedland puts it within relatively easy rail haulage distance to the Roy Hill berth at Port Hedland, which is adjacent to the existing facilities of other iron ore miners, including Fortescue Metals Group and BHP Billiton. 19.01.2022 www.miningaustralia.com.au Australian Mining brings you a gallery of the largest machinery move in West Australia's history, as well as video of the operation in action. Over six days four prime move trucks towed a fully assembled Liebherr 996 excavator weighing more then 675 tonnes. The machine was from Fortescue's Christmas Creek mine to its Solomon operations.... They travelled at speeds of 4km/hr over gravel, thanks to an additional two trucks pushing the load, and reached speeds of 6km/hr on roads. Hauling the load the 230km to the mine took them six days, (including time spent being bogged, which was only recitified with the help of four front end loaders) working up to 15 hours per day. It was moved on 24 twin-axle (384) Goldholfer platforms. See more

17.01.2022 South Australian Paris silver gets $5 million boost. South Australia’s Eyre Penninsula continues to show signs of a burgeoning micro-boom, with Investigator Resources declaring a fresh $5 million investment this year for the development of their Paris silver discoveries. Addressing the Paydirt 2014 conference in Adelaide yesterday, managing director, Mr John Anderson said 15 drill targets were now ready in four potential areas on the Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas.... We have prepared a 28 kilometre drilling campaign over the next three to nine months with a $5 million budget proposed, he said. The aim is to substantially build on the Paris discovery and maiden resource announced in October last year. We are keen to now keep the momentum going on this project as the know-how we have generated from Paris, and the in-house data set the Company now owns, are able to be used to target new satellite extensions in this prospective region of the Peninsula. The maiden Inferred resource for Paris of 20 million contained ounces of silver, is competitive in grade and size with maiden resources from recent deposits including the Joaquin project in Argentina, which has a strong geological similarity with Paris, Anderson said. Our focus through to the end of the year will be to now roll out our Paris exploration model to develop a fuller suite of multiple, high priority silver and copper targets. http://www.miningaustralia.com.au//south-australian-paris-

15.01.2022 Mining and Resources Propping up Profits Australia's mining sector has assisted to drive rising company profits for the fourth consecutive quarter. Company gross operating profits rose 1.7 per sent in the December quarter, just shy of the popular market forecast of a 2% uptick. Economist Tom Kennedy of JP Morgan noted that the profits data highlighted the reliance of the economy as a whole on the resource sector. 'The rebalancing of growth to the other sectors is still playi...ng out very slowly and we're not quite there yet. You've got other sectors out there which aren't turning a profit and are losing money.' In the year to December, gross operating profits were up 10.7 per cent. Mining profits accounted for 32.2 per cent of total company profits over the year to the December quarter. St George Senior Economist Jo Horton said Australia is starting to reap the rewards of a decade long spending surge on the mining and resources sector. The manufacturing sector continues to weaken with profits falling 14.6 per cent in the December quarter.

14.01.2022 Industry leaders have urged mining companies to rethink the ways mining equipment is used in order to reduce energy consumption. Haulage presently accounts for almost a third (30 per cent) of energy expenditure on a mine site. Other mining equipment, including mobile mine machinery used for extraction and loading, accounts for another 25 to 30 per cent of energy costs.... Moreover, outlays are expected to accelerate in the next 18 months when transport is integrated into the carbon pricing mechanism. Implementing sustainable fuel practices for mine equipment can reduce fuel consumption by up to five per cent, slashing operating costs and improving air quality. Resource companies are encouraged to map diesel fuel consumption of mining equipment to see where usage can be cut. Sustainable practices include: introducing fuel additives for fleets; condensing the stops needed by haul trucks; and improving management systems including driver training tracking and load management. Other best practice fuel reduction initiatives include: introducing lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles and mining equipment onto mine sites; servicing mining equipment in-pit; replacing truck haulage with conveyor systems and reducing ore size with in-pit crushing; and honing digging schedules to reduce the amount of mining equipment required at any given time.

05.01.2022 South Australian copper to fill a global void: OZ Minerals With rich copper profiles and production increases predicted at South Australian copper mines, Australia’s other resources state looks well positioned to capitalise on increased Chinese investment, according to Prominent Hill owners OZ Minerals. OZ Minerals Limited’s managing director Terry Burgess said recent Chinese investment in copper was creating opportunities for expanding South Australian copper.... Since 2007, China has invested in 17 copper projects and companies worldwide, totalling around US$17.5 billion, Burgess said. These investments have been in South America, southern areas of Africa, South East Asia and within China, and obviously Australia. In particular, China’s growth is now leveraged off a much larger population and economic base, with a GDP of around US$9 trillion and growth forecasts above 7 per cent for this year and next including, for example, quadrupling the current high speed rail line network to 50,000 kilometres by 2020That will mean higher demand for copper. Burgess told delegates at today’s Paydirt conference, held in Adelaide, that additional global copper production would be required in 2016-2017 in order to meet this new demand surge. http://www.miningaustralia.com.au//south-australian-copper
