25.01.2022 This week in the toddler room, we have been observing different Indigenous hieroglyphs that were used for communication and storytelling. Today we painted rocks with these hieroglyphs and some indigenous patterns, that will later be used for story telling and communication during our yarning circles.
24.01.2022 We have extended on our herb exploration by picking fresh herbs from the garden here at Mini-Skool and then making some delicious herb bread with the toddler and nursery children combined. This is a great way to teach children about where food comes from and how food is made. Being involved in the preparation of food also encourages children to eat it and be more inclined to reach for a more diverse range of food offered to them. 17.01.2022 This morning our Preschool children continue to investigate their interest and understanding of their world through creative arts. Two of our Preschool children create their interpretations of camping with Teachers, family and friends. They further communicate their knowledge of traditional and contemporary process of how campfires are constructed. We look forward to investigating this interest further at the Centre. Stay tuned and connected to see how we interpret a Preschool Iso Camping Adventure. #preschool #camping #Aborignalperspectives #traditionalperspective #playbasedlearning #creativearts
16.01.2022 At Mini Skool we try and keep sustainability at a focal point. Our families bring in recycled resources and materials and we utilise them to the best of our ability. Today we used some trays filled with paint, water bottles for printing and foam blocks as our canvas. All materials and resources used here were recycled into the centre by a family.
15.01.2022 Here at Mini-Skool we believe that children should have the opportunity to explore their creativity through open-ended creative art mediums. These are some beautifully, thoroughly thoughtful and diverse provocations that have been set up in our Art Studio this week. Stay tuned to see how our children have engaged in these learning experiences. Inner West Local Child Care & Services Directory

We have been talking about how we need to water the plants to make sure that they grow, but not to much as to much water can also be bad for the plants. 06.01.2022 The toddler room had some excess boxes and bubble wrap from packaging today. Rather than throw this out, we used it as an opportunity to learn and explore. Texture was the main focus as the children used their fine motor skills to pop the bubble wrap. Creativity and imagination will always reign supreme - this was shown as the children pretended to be pirates and look through the cardboard at each other and their surroundings. 05.01.2022 Problem solving and critical thinking are extremely important in the early stages of development. Challenging children just the right amount without bringing feelings of failure and frustration on them is also very important. The toddler children were set the task of breaking dinosaurs free from ice. Many different methods were used including stomping on the ice and watching it melt with the warmth of their hands. 02.01.2022 Always was, always will be. We celebrate the traditions and cultures of the aboriginal peoples of this land and pay respect to them. It is important to us that we embed and teach children about the custodial land owners and we appreciate their work and beliefs. We have recently learnt about Albert Namatjira, a very talented and famous aboriginal artist. Today we focus on Uluru, a sacred landmark to our indigenous peoples. 01.01.2022 Here at Mini-Skool, we offer our children a diverse range of foods based off family, child, educator and community input. The children often help prepare different foods as we believe it is important for children to be apart of the whole process of meal times. Our children serve themselves and are given the opportunity to choose what they place in their bowls - aiding in the reduction of food waste & promoting self-autonomy. Here we show you images of Tuesdays lunch, Butter Chicken served with rice! Inner West Local Child Care & Services Directory
