25.01.2022 After a study period off, uni starts back on the 31st. This should be fun, yeah??

22.01.2022 School starts back this week on Wednesday/Thursday. While I'm looking forward to some form of routine returning, I know it's going to get hectic quick after glancing at the upcoming school calendar.

22.01.2022 42 looks like drinking lemonade out of a wine glass, a snack plate for dinner, ice cream ‘cake’ and Lego flowers (that I assembled today ).

20.01.2022 Grogu approved choc coconut slice

19.01.2022 PSA. When you use a doorframe chin-up bar, even when you’ve been using one for 7+ years, make sure it is attached properly before you decide to start your set. Otherwise you end up falling mid-pull-up and cracking your head and back on the shelf behind on your way down and then spend 6+ hours in emergency. I did get my first ever CT scan though, so that was an experience.... That was my Monday afternoon/night. I’ve been resting up since and today (Thursday) I still feel a bit tight and sore (nice bump on the back of my head and bruise on my back), but slowly able to stretch and do gentle movement. And I was able to drive the kids to school this morning (carefully!). Put a slight spanner in the works with training, but I’ll adjust Getting over my embarrassment may take longer

18.01.2022 I seriously love this quick salad. Red cabbage, pickled ginger and either diced apple or pear. So yummy Topped it today with diced tofu in a plum sauce and sushi seasoning, because that stuff is truly amazing. Today this is what happiness looks like on a plate.

12.01.2022 If there’s one nutrition myth I can’t stop busting, it’s the one about FAT BURNING FOODS. O.M.F.G. it will not die!! Let me put it to you in classic Abby strai...ght forward point form: No food or drink burns fat. ’Fat burners’ that are sold as supplements, don’t work. Let’s stop wasting our money, shall we? ’Fat burning’ drinks, like ACV-spiked water, lemon water, or any of the other ones you can find on Pinterest, don’t work. Hot pepper has been shown to speed up metabolic rate, but nobody eats that much hot pepper. And even though metabolic rate is elevated after a few spoonfuls of hot pepper on your meal, this effect doesn’t last long enough and isn’t strong enough to help with weight or fat loss. Drinking cold water doesn’t burn more calories either - okay, maybe it burns 1 more calorie. Not worth making yourself freeze all day long. I know we all want a magical fat-burning unicorn that will make things super easy. But that’s not the way life - or, your body - work. So...nope. The only things that can elevate your metabolism long enough and strong enough to burn a FEW more calories, are: Weight training. You may have heard that muscle burns more calories at rest than fat, and that’s true. However, it’s not that many - for 10 pounds of muscle, you’ll burn maybe 30 more calories per day versus 10 pounds of fat. That doesn’t mean you should stop exercising, but it does mean that you should focus less on exercise as punishment for eating, and more on using it for joy and overall fitness. Eating more protein. Protein has the highest thermic effect of all of the macronutrients, meaning that the body uses more energy to metabolize protein than it does for carbs and fat. So yes, if you bump your protein intake up, this can help - but don’t go all out on protein yet: for optimal satisfaction and health, you still need to eat a varied diet. And the thermic effect of food doesn’t account for a lot of our daily calorie usage - about 10% - so effect is limited. If quick fixes worked, the diet industry would cease to exist. But it’s still here, taking our money and laughing all the way to the bank

09.01.2022 One more week of school holidays left and the husband goes 'back to work' today - ie working from home. We got through lock down last weekend unscathed, masks are mandatory in public until at least this Friday and I'm hoping for a little bit of quiet when the kids get back to school. Still trying to find our rhythm a bit. Swim squad is back, need to sort out footy and then see what extracurricular things are on the agenda for school.... #dinner #menu #menuplanning #food #nutrition #keepitsimple #mumlife #summer #schoolholidays #foodfreedom #coeliac #january #newyear
