25.01.2022 Here is a scientific proof that a diet impacts: - how well kids learn, - how good their memory is, - how tolerant they are, - how aggressive and hyper-active they are,... and generally, how their brain develops and the type of decisions they make. A must-watch documentary.

23.01.2022 Enrolled late? Missed a class? No worries! At MiniBoss we care about QUALITY not QUANTITY. Catch up sessions are available for students who have missed lessons, that way they’re all caught up and ready to move on with the program!

23.01.2022 Do you know how to find your passion, and how to help your children find theirs? Actually, the phrase finding your passion is misleading. Passion in not a lost key and cannot be found. But it is something that can be developed. Here is how: 1. Think of a passion as an internship. You can’t figure out if you truly love an activity just by reading a book about it. You need to try and practise it for a period of time, making mistakes and learning the skills.... To help children start cultivating passions, psychology researcher Angela Duckworth recommends for them to choose one hard thing, such as learning ballet or playing soccer. 2. Patience is a virtue Just like growing a tree from a seedling, passions won’t develop overnight. Hardly ever we are good at something when we do it for the first time. It takes time to learn a new skill, and most people would not enjoy the activity if they can’t achieve good results. Only when we become good at something, we can tell if the activity brings us joy and can turn into a real passion. The period of learning teaches us one of the most important skills we need for success: perseverance. So even if the skill we’re learning isn’t going to spark a passion in us long-term, we’re benefiting from becoming more persistent and learning how to get through challenging situations. 22.01.2022 Active participation is the best way to learn and retain new knowledge/skills. While the specific percentage might vary (see the picture below), the undeniable fact is that whatever we learn by reading (including preparation for tests, which is worsened by increased stress levels) is soon forgotten. However, if we PRACTICE own new skills, we'll remember the most of the experience for a long time. No matter how brilliant teachers are, just reading or listening isn't enough f...or learning. This is how our brains work. Confucius noticed it long time ago, when he said: "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." One of the key principles of the Miniboss method is to enable students practice their new skills and knowledge. Every year students create their businesses and practice their financial, marketing, project planning, communication, management, leadership and so many other skills. This way we guarantee that students will remember all important lessons for years to come.

22.01.2022 Do you want to start a successful business? "Firstly, what usually look like good ideas are bad ideas, and what look like bad ideas are good ideas, because the problem with good ideas is that everyone tries to do them, and as a result, there’s no value to be created there. Secondly, you need to do the thing that you believe you are the best person in the world to do, where you have a unique proposition, given your story, to solve a problem."... In his NYT bestselling book, The Hard Thing About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers, Ben Horowitz (an American businessman and investor) gives an unconventional advice: DON'T follow your passion. What you take out of the world is much less important than what you put into the world. Follow your contribution instead. Find the thing you’re great at, put that into the world, contribute to others, help the world be better. https://fortune.com//how-i-built-this-podcast-host-guy-raz/

22.01.2022 One thing about saving money that EVERY student MUST remember is... ... the impact of a compound interest on their savings over a long period of time. If our students start putting aside even $1,000 per year from the time they start making money, it can become a very handsome amount by the time when they're ready to make big investments.... Wise spending and investments is another topic we'll cover later this year.

18.01.2022 How useful is a university degree in the long term in securing full-time, well-paid employment? About 73% of university graduates were employed four months after graduation in 2018. Sounds good, right? But the average is decreasing. Prior to the global financial crisis, that number was 85%. Overall, universities do help to get jobs, although some degrees have better performance results than others:... - More than 90% of medicine and pharmacy graduates get jobs straight out of university in full-time employment within four months of graduating. - Despite the strong focus on STEM in schools, science and mathematics graduates have weak short-term job prospects, with 64.6% in full-time employment four months after graduation. - Around 30% of psychology graduates also struggle to get work. - Creative arts graduates are at the bottom of the list at only 52.2% full-time employment in the short term. At the same time: - Only 57 % of undergraduates who were employed full time following university felt their qualification was important for their current employment. - 39 % of undergraduates in full-time and part-time jobs reported that their skills and education were not fully utilised. 15.01.2022 Ernest Rutherford, the Best Teacher in the World World Teachers' Day is held internationally on 5 October. In Queensland World Teachers' Day will be commemorated on Friday 30 October 2020. Ernest Rutherford, apart from being recognised as one of the greatest scientists in history, can be seen as the best teacher in the world. He is the only teacher with so many Nobel laureates as his students.... If only our schools and universities were measured by how well they prepare their students for success and how great their graduates' achievements are, we would be living in a very different world. #EDUCATION #MINIBOSSBUSINESSSCHOOL Viktoria Chindatskaya https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_Rutherford

15.01.2022 Do you think your child lacks confidence? The most important foundation for child’s confidence is the parents. What you, parents, say and how you say it becomes your children’s inner voice when they grow up. In this video a child psychologist and learning & development specialist shares some insights and tips:... 1) Don’t mistake child’s personality with a lack of confidence. If a child doesn’t engage in a conversation with strangers, it’s nothing to do with confidence. Confidence is when a child thinks/says I can vs I can’t. We have to help a child to see the ways to say I can. It can start with I can learn how to do it. 2) Confidence is what a child sees when he/she looks in a mirror. The thoughts the child has while looking at himself/herself are the ideas that parents have repeated many times (said to the child or amongst themselves). Say positive and encouraging things to a child, and these will be the scripts the child remembers and takes into their adulthood. 3) Instead of saying don’t do it or pointing to mistakes, suggest a better way of doing things. 4) Every time you have a conversation with a child, leave them empowered. https://youtu.be/zIHlrGR3_G0

15.01.2022 Personality makes us who we are. But can we change our personalities? Here are a few interesting factors:... 1. There are 5 core personality traits: - Extraversion - Agreeableness - Conscientiousness - Neuroticism - Openness High conscientiousness (including high intelligence), and lower agreeableness predict success (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ikrOyhiGf8) Note: do not pressure your children into compliance, or they won't be able to lead and succeed. 2. Personality type is a bit like left- or right-handedness. Most people are born preferring one hand, and all of us are born with a personality type, which has some aspects that we feel more comfortable with than others. (http://www.bbc.co.uk//personalityand/personalitytype.shtml) 3. Life events influence our behaviours, but our personality is relatively stable throughout the life. Even using a different personality structure (verbal fluency, adaptability, impulsiveness and self-minimisation) researchers found that adults demonstrated the same traits as they did in elementary school. E.g., children rated as highly adaptable tended, as middle-aged adults, to behave cheerfully, speak fluently and show interest in intellectual matters. Those who rated low in adaptability as children were observed as adults to say negative things about themselves, seek advice and exhibit an awkward interpersonal style. (https://www.sciencedaily.com/releas/2010//100804151456.htm) Psychologists say that it IS possible to intentionally develop under-used parts of our personality type, however people would have to do this through much thought and effort, and it would probably take years (not days or weeks) to see a real difference. 4. Personality influences personal preferences. This is shown not only in music choices and the type of friends, but also in political preferences: people with higher empathy vote for liberal views, and people with high orderliness favour conservatives. Also, your pet reveals information about your personality. Those who prefer dogs are more extraverted and eager to please others, while cat people tend to be more introverted and curious. https://www.verywellmind.com/facts-about-personality-2795436

12.01.2022 Our attention gets constantly hijacked by everything from the stress in our lives to the ding of our phones. Our kids are exposed to more distraction triggers than we had when we were kids, and it's important to help our children learn how to focus. Neuroscientists recommend to strengthen your attention and reduce destractibility through mindfulness training (it's nothing to do with spiritual or religious belief system). Apart from improved attention mindfulness results in r...educed anxiety, protection from depression relapse, and improved working memory. Here are some simple exercises: 1) focus on the present moment and stop thinking of the past or future; 2) focus on one single object or activity, like your breath; 3) Mindful walking; 4) Body scan. People generally start to see benefits when they practice for about 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week, for around 4 weeks. If you do more, you benefit more, but if you do less than 12 minutes a day, there won't be any benefits. Start small. Begin with whatever you consider a reasonable goal and cut it in half. Whatever your initial goal, commit to that for a month and congratulate yourself for making it! and then gradually increase your practice time until you’re doing it for 15 minutes, 5 days a week. 12.01.2022 The school system will never teach kids about money. They only teach how to be employees or specialists. Being poor is not about your wallet, but about your mind thinking "I can't do that". You become what you say. 10.01.2022 Money Everyone needs it to survive in the world we live in today. Ask your child what it is really used for. What does it represent? Why can't it just grow on trees (like this message if you wish it could)? This week we focused on paying attention to interest rates and how it influences our money. We either save more over time or pay more back to the bank, all because of simple interest.

09.01.2022 What differentiates successful people? Your future is determined by where your mind is. Having a mindset of a problem solver and an optimistic thinker will help you get through tough times and soar to the highest heights.... Having no resources and facing negative feedback hasn't stopped this amazing young entrepreneur (Cole Bennett). He believed in his idea, and converted a little blog he was writing while still in school to a very successful multimedia company Lyrical Lemonade. 2 main messages from Cole: 1) It's always your choice whether to be a glass half-full or a glass half-empty person. Whichever you decide, this will determine what you'll achieve. 2) Admitting that there is no solution to a problem sometimes is the solution. Going through tough times is as important for growth as celebrating successes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_9cyPIvdyo

07.01.2022 Who’s thirsty? Today our students learnt the economic concept of ‘diminishing marginal utility’ using glasses of water. We had lots of fun (and bathroom breaks haha) while developing our entrepreneurial skills. Well done team!

07.01.2022 How to future-proof your career: - Don't settle for crumbs, go (and ask) for what you want; - Don't be scared of competition. If you're good and if you persevere, you'll outlast your competitors; - Rethink impossible and question assumptions;... - Take the initiative; - Apply what you know and what you've learnt; - Diversify your portfolio (have more than one income source). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6leLPN8ipI

06.01.2022 One of the last talks by Sir Ken Robinson - explaining why the mainstream education system is as unsustainable as agriculture based on industrial principles. "The way you get people to flourish is not through tests and data-driven outputs, but by recognising their individuality and diversity of people's talents starting from young age." "Successful schools don't focus on output, they focus on culture, in the same way sustainable farmers focus on the soil."... "There is a big difference between learning, education and school. Learning is the most natural process in the world. Not everybody gets on with education, and a lot of people don't like school. The problem is not teachers, not kids, not families, but how we do school. Schools resemble factory lines. There is no reason for schools to be that way. We can reinvent schools." https://youtu.be/QU4Q17t4muY

03.01.2022 If you're not happy with your work, you can't be happy with your life. If you’re working for someone else, you’ll know well these synonyms for: - EMPLOYEE: cog, servant, slave - MANAGER: slave-driver, boss, zookeeper... - WORK: daily grind, drudgery, struggle How to make your life better: 1) Be a perpetual learner. Learn by yourself, don't expect the knowledge will be given to you at school, uni or at work. 2) Believe in yourself. What you think of yourself matters as it determines your actions and how you feel, and it will determine the direction of your future. 3) DON'T FOLLOW YOUR PASSION. Passion is not an external thing that you need to find and chase. Develop it while doing something that matters to you and makes a difference for others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ANNusBBWsg

02.01.2022 What things have people used instead of money? Which of these are NOT money substitutes? - beer bottle caps - cheese - tea bricks - salt... - potato mashers Are you sure you got it right?? Think again... Actually, ALL of these things have been used as money! Yeap, potato mashers were a legit currency in Central Africa. And even today you can trade a wheel of parmesan for 300 euros in some banks in Northern Italy! Why is it important to know? It explains the purpose of money - it's something of value that many people are happy to accept as a payment for their products or services. This core concept helps our young entrepreneurs identify valuable products and services, and come up with alternative ways of payments when their bank accounts aren't bursting.

01.01.2022 Last week only two people wished money could grow on trees!! How else do you get your money? Comment Below. Our students learned 2 of the most common ways (Being Employed or Self-Employed) and 2 of the wealthiest ways (Being a Business Owner or Being an Investor).

01.01.2022 To be brave is more important than to be tech-savvy. We need to be brave enough to invent things we've never seen before and to make any future we choose. The more we rely on technology to make us efficient, the fewer skills we have to confront the unexpected, says writer and entrepreneur Margaret Heffernan. ...
