17.01.2022 Hey guys, are you having trouble with your laptop/pc, is it running to slow?, if so here are a few easy tips to get you up to speed. Check your hard disk space When hard drives get clogged full of information everything starts to run slow, as a rule of thumb it is a good idea to keep at least 15% of your total hardrive space free to keep it running smoothly, to check yor hardrive space, right click on your primary drive (C:) inside my computer and select properties. Remove ...programs To remove unwanted programs go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (or uninstall depending on OS) anything you see that doesnt get used or you dont need select and click uninstall. Removing programs is one of the best ways to get some extra speed. Empty Recycle Bin Simple task, right click on your recycle bin on the desktop and select empty recycle bin. Change power options to high performance go to control panel, power options, change your power settings to high performance, this increases the performance of your computer by reducing your battery life (laptop). Disable background programs programs that run in the background of the pc greatly reduce the speed. To do this hit Start > Type msconfig > Select Startup Tab > Uncheck anything you do not need to open during startup process. Install and run antivirus & malware removal software free spyware, malware and antivirus are available online, and do as good of a job as the paid versions. Run disk cleanup - remember where you checked your harddrive space, head back to that window and select disc cleanup. Run a disk defragment once again in the properties of the C: select tools tab at the top and the select disk defrag, warning this can take a very long time depending on how old your computer is. Check for disk errors just above the defrag option is a check for disc errors button, this also takes a bit of time but well worth it as disc errors slow your computer substantialy Turn of indexing in the general tab of C: properties down the bottom there is a check box, you can turn of indexing with this, this will make most computer functions run fast but if you use the search bar in the folders and similar this will be a lot slower, this option is not for everyone. Clear your prefetch folder Open Notepad and type: del C:\Windows\Prefetch\*.* /Q Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks (Copy and paste this text to ensure you dont make any mistakes.) Save as faster.bat Then simple double click the newly created file, it will execute, clear the prefetch and close itself. Disable fancy windows effects - Go to Control Panel>System>Advanced System Settings > Settings, and click on the bullet which says Adjust for best performance. Restart you computer
