18.01.2022 Been a busy weekend had four horses competing at colac show fri and sat all ponies picking up ribbons with Bella stepping up to 115 jumping great and Bandido stepping up to 125 130 showing he has the ability to go up the grades.. Sunday we headed up early to Whittlesea show what a great old style ag show, with so much atmosphere and things to do. Bandido as always holding the fort coming 6th in 110 and 3rd in 120 Stella jumped clean in 110 and Maya jumped her butt off over on...e of the bigger tracks shes jumped, just her rider letting her down a bit with her jumping clean but bit of miss communication resulting in a stop giving us 4 faults a few mistakes in jump off left us just out of placings but glade for the experience and will be back next year.. Thanks to Colac Show, Bruce Harding and Jim Brown for being my eyes on the ground and giving me valuable advice over the bigger tracks fri when schooling it was a lovely friendly show, new jumps looked great and grounds held up great with the work done on it.. 17.01.2022 Kyra Kyrklund is not only very wise, she is very funny: "In front of the leg is a bit hard to explain. It’s a bit like God everyone has heard of him, but no o...ne has seen him. It is hard to explain the feeling of ‘in front of the leg’ but when it happens, it’s like magic. It is a bit like explaining how strawberry jam tastes it is easier if you have eaten it before or even tasted a strawberry. It is the same with the good feelings you get when you are riding: think about that feeling, give it a name, then it will be easier to get it back..." enjoy the entire article https://www.horsemagazine.com//kyra-kyrklund-the-young-ho/ See more

11.01.2022 Back at the races with Ruby yesterday at Murtoa, such a tough little mare she is, running a strong 3rd beaten bit over two lengths, not helped by drawing a wide barrier again.. Thanks again to Gary Tobias for helping me at races and Christen Puls for giving her a great ride..

11.01.2022 This fellow came to us as a educated going horse but that was super spooky to point of just shutting down and closing his eyes and running past or way from thing he was worried about which was potentially quite dangerous for anyone on ground near him or rider riding him.. I started with working with him on the ground teaching him to face up to what was scaring him, he needed to learn that he could stop and look at first I then worked with him to teach him how to control his ...fears and gave him to tools to over come it.. As you can see from video he starts scared and wanting to run but by engaging his out side hind and move around object that he started to gain confidence and trust rider and not want to run away, after 5min he was passing everything calmly and confidently, he then progressed to allowing me to hold umbrella on him and move it around.. He now happily walks around all the tracks on property without spooking and running and was happily trusting me if I wanted him to pass something scary.. We will miss this beautiful sole around the place he was such a pleasure to work with.. See more

04.01.2022 Geelong show had its up and downs, with few miscommunications between show committe and my self regarding my yards Id built, in end it was sorted, but it didnt start my show terribly well.. 01.01.2022 RE POST FROM LAST YEAR What happened to good old fashioned horsemanship? This may be a long post but Iv had horses all my life and well a lot will say well sh...e isn’t that old my experience is vast., from ponies to horses and grown up seeing my parents buy ponies for myself and when we grew out of them sell them on. I also worked for some pretty old school dealers growing up as well as showjumping yards ect. I learnt from a young age that a pony or horse in the competition world is what it is on the day. IE a horse or pony never got a bad rep for refusing or having a bad round it was just one of those things. I grew up in a industry where you would compete against ponies see them on circuit and they would be the must have pony. The child’s never tried the pony, There was never ever even a breath mentioned of previous vettings (no such thing really happened then , more on that later) or previous injury’s or soundness you saw the pony jumping on the circuit and tried to buy it and if you were LUCKY you got to take the pony back from said show., Your child may get to sit on it in the warm up at the show but it the child was told to make it work that’s the pony your having and you will learn to ride it, money was paid and it was yours. I was brought up to look at a horse/pony and use my eyes and judgement. You watch the performance and if it had no performance you run your hands over it, You do your own evaluations. Back then everyone had the ability to know a lame horse from a sound one when buying so you didn’t need a vet to tell you as you were confident in your own horsemanship and judgement that you knew a good horse. This was a time when colour and mare or gelding was never a thing and neither was breeding. This also was a time when there was no X-RAY MACHINE how ever did you all cope and certainly no scanning machines. A scan or a X-ray was done only as a last resort to finding out why your horse/pony was lame and it was a end of the road thing back then mainly for the more wealthier people and it was a hospital job. Vettings were few and far between and if they were they were done by a good old fashioned hunt vet basically giving you their professional advice and confirming really what you already knew as back then everyone buying had to be their own vet as it was never a thing to get the vet out for a vetting. Everyone relied on crucial factors which now a days is not heard of. Gut instinct, old fashioned Knowledge and a eye for a good one. These were the days where I looked up to John Whitaker in his Milton days and Nick Skelton on Dollar Girl as well as Micheal on Midnight Madness. These were the days where I watched John’s Milton videos jumping rock walls in his Yorkshire home with Milton schooling before winning world cups and hacking him up Yorkshire hills and not a arena in site with professional jump 4 joy jumps. Now people wouldn’t dream of jumping their showjumper over a wall and we complain when the FEI approved surface at the local venue is too hard or soft causing said venue to close as it gets a bad rep. These horses I’m sure were never x-rayed, or scanned or such and the were given a equal chance to be good enough on talent alone. Now a talented horse if it has a blemish on X-rays isn’t worth as much as the useless goat who cannot jump a clear round with the clean X-rays. We’ve now gone to People cannot make decisions on horses until they have tried it vetted it, xrayed it and got their trainer to look at the video as god forbid the trainer didn’t like the horse, Even though it’s only the trainer on the ground teaching you over 1m who hasn’t got to ride the horse or pay for it and look at your investment but god forbid you like something your trainer doesn’t. I constantly get told how do you find all of these superstars it’s gone way past luck now..., you have a amazing eye how do you it? I fail to answer most these people realising that it will fall on deaf ears as they will never understand that I have had to as a child pick ponies from markets with my parents hard earned money and hope to god my eye and feeling is good enough not to buy them a dodge one as the mortgage wouldn’t get paid and The saying that gets thrown about a awful lot she’s got a good eye well that’s just it I use my eyes!!! I don’t use my mouth to speak to a trainer or anyone else, I don’t use a tick box piece Of paper valid on the day that confirms jack nothing to that horses/ponies life, I CERTAINLY don’t use a X-ray machine that apparently if you have good X-rays you have a good horse, I don’t use records as a record is as good as the rider for ponies and horses. Some horses have a amazing record with one rider go to another and do not gel and start stopping then suddenly that horse is worthless and branded a stopper. I look at the horse, I use my eye and my money and know with them 2 things I carnt go far wrong. Vecthom Sporthorses.
