23.01.2022 Vale Jozef (Joe) Nezmah It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of one of the long time MGLS family and Life Member as well as the Queensland Mineralogical society Jozef (Joe) Nezmah. Joe passed away this morning. . Funeral arrangments will be advised once details are known. .... Our thoughts are with his wife, Wilma, and family. . Joe will be sadly missed by all. . . See more

22.01.2022 The March meeting of Mineralogical Society of Queensland is being held as a closed meeting on the 31st of March due to Covid numbers and a lack of rooms to use at the Library . Happily the April meeting we have a double room and can invite up to 40 members and guests . Of course all members are able to watch the live stream on our private page . If you wish to join to be a part of our live streaming then send me your email address and I can help you join our happy band .

20.01.2022 February meeting of Micromob is this Saturday 8th February at MGLS clubrooms (1873 Logan Road, Upper Mount Gravatt) starting at 10am. Our topic is Fluorescence in Minerals , what causes it , which minerals are affected , where to find them in Australia etc. BYO lunch . 18.01.2022 The March/April meeting of the QLD Micromob is now to be held on Saturday 28th March in Toowoomba .Rod and Kay Brightman are our hosts (pm me for the address) . Theme is Understanding Crystallography part 2. Rod is covering the Hexagonal and Trigonal systems . BYO lunch . PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO APRIL MEETING because of Easter .

18.01.2022 Queensland Mineral Society will be meeting for the final time this year on Wednesday 25th November . We are meeting at the YMCA vocational centre (2-10 Mannington road Acacia Ridge ) - enter from the gate at the rear of the carpark Gates open at 7pm for a 7.30 start . ... Bev Mortensen will be speaking on some of the collecting sites of North West Queensland . There will be lots of "Pretties" to see . The Mineral learning Quiz and mineral raffle will take place as we enjoy a cuppa after the talk . Visitors welcome

16.01.2022 Our first meeting of the Micromob for 2020 is coming up on Saturday 11th . As usual we will meet at MGLS clubrooms (1873 Logan Road, Upper Mount Gravatt) Topic is Degrussa Copper Mine . So bring along show and tells - minerals, photos and stories of trips there . Discussion time is what ever problems /issues that you are having . 10am start . BYO lunch. Tea & coffee available.

05.01.2022 Queensland is one of six state mineralogical societies in Australia. Each year we hold a combined seminar in one Australian state. Due to COVID the 2020 NSW seminar has been put on hold until 2021. However, regardless of this, the NSW society has decided to hold a 2020 virtual seminar on "zoom". 05.01.2022 The society's AGM and combined August monthly meeting is still scheduled for Wednesday 26th August. As of Sunday 22nd, our meeting criteria and new venue will meet the new COVID restrictions, and the meeting will go ahead as scheduled. 7.30 pm start at the Moorooka Community Centre, 40 Gainsborough St, Moorooka. Any change will be posted asap. Tony Forsyth will give a presentation on his and Jude's recent (!) mineral buying trip to the US in January - February

03.01.2022 Our Annual General Meeting and social night went very well at our temporary location in Moorooka . We even had the pleasure of being joined by three new members . The first two photos are the raffle prizes won by Geoff and Alfonso. Tony gave an interesting report as always on his recent? trip to Tucson .
