24.01.2022 This afternoon some of friends were enjoying some refreshing Christmas themed ice and water play. 22.01.2022 Happy World Ocean Day! To celebrate in kindy, we played with ocean themed playdough. During this experience, we worked on our fine motor strength, our one to one correspondence while counting shells and our creativity!
22.01.2022 Last week one of our beautiful kindy families brought in a butterfly that had only just hatched from its cocoon. The children were so excited to observe its cocoon still stuck to the stick, and watch the butterfly slowly begin to open its magnificent wings. After the butterfly was fluttering its wings and ready to fly the children released the butterfly into our outdoor environment. What a wonderful spontaneous input to our curriculum!
21.01.2022 ‘Always was, Always will be’ Happy NAIDOC week 2020 friends We at Mint wish to acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar nation and their Elders past, present and emerging. ... 18.01.2022 This morning the children participated in the national simultaneous story time, from space. This year the book was called ‘Give me some space’ and was read to us by NASA Astronaut Shannon Walker who is currently on the international space station. This has really peaked a lot of interest with some of the children about space and our planets. #1MillionKidsReading
14.01.2022 Interesting News...A Canadian study has found that boys who begin daycare between the age of six months and 36 months have a better chance of finishing high school and do better economically when they grow up, compared to boys who start later or don't attend child care at all. https://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content//1/e20193880
14.01.2022 Happy Environment Day! Today the children engaged in tactile visual art learning experience using nature items to imprint beautiful patterns into their clay medallions.
13.01.2022 Montessori believed children learn best by using their senses and pursuing their interests. This is where creative development is fostered. At Mint this week, the kindy children were given a variety of coloured paints and standing recycled cardboard for open ended, child directed creative expression.
10.01.2022 Yesterday we started an inquiry journey based on the children’s interest of plants and how they grow. We began by watching a sped up time lapse video of a mung bean sprouting. The children had some excellent inquiry questions so we dived in and began our experiment.
08.01.2022 Our little artists were busy creating their dinosaur this afternoon for our dinosaur theme. Our friends have been role playing with the dinosaur figurines, letting out big ROARS!
08.01.2022 Our toddlers have taken a great interest in measuring. Today we used our measuring cups to measure our rice and enhance simple maths concepts such as counting, measurements and shapes.
07.01.2022 Today in the toddlers yard we used warm water in our activity table to melt some frozen oranges! We used our senses such as touch, smell and sight to find out what was inside the ice blocks!
06.01.2022 In Kindy, our mung bean inquiry has really taken off. The children loved the first harvest so much, we planted another. We focused on science concepts such as what plants need to survive. The children used science skills such as questioning and discussing results. We taught sustainability through building respect for nature and the natural environment. We also used recycled jars to plant them in.
06.01.2022 Like you, we know the early years of a child’s life are critical in building strong futures. Not everyone is aware of this which is why the Thrive by Five campaign has been launched. Today the Minderoo foundation has brought morning tea to our centre as a thank you to educators for the hard work our sector provides young minds. To find out more about this initiative please visit thrivebyfive.org.au
02.01.2022 The kindy children have been talking a lot about treasure hunts and being a pirate in their dramatic play. So today, we set up a treasure sensory bin with all different textures with a variety of both natural and man made materials.
