24.01.2022 Searching for that next thing that makes you unique? Well, you don't need to look far as you are already unique, even if you are an identical twin!! Our environment changes us in ways that you cannot always see, what we eat and what we do will change us at the fundamental and most basic level. Scientific fields such as Epigenetics, nutrigenomics and nutrigenetics are all unravelling how what we eat, how we eat, where we eat and even what our parents ate is changing our bodies in ways we can't fully understand yet. But rest assured personalised nutrition is rapidly becoming a tool against many diet and lifestyle-related diseases. So you can rest assured there is not a single living entity out there that is exactly identical to you right now..

23.01.2022 In these Covid Times, money can be tight, sure we don't have the worry of paying for expensive holidays or insurances, but there is a large percentage of every community that is already doing it tough. When times get hard people naturally reevaluate what is a priority in their lives. Food unfortunately is one thing that suffers, and it's quite amazing really considering we need it to survive! It is still possible to eat healthily and keep the bank balance healthy. Engaging in the services of nutrition or finance professional may also be money well spent in the long run. Malnutrition both financial and medical can be avoided with some simple steps. https://moneytamer.com/how-to-meal-plan-on-tight-budget/

23.01.2022 All valid points but No 3 and 4 are especially important, eating right and staying active is something you can do relatively easily. You don't need to spend a heap of money to have a healthy body, mind and healthy meals each day. If you want to know how to achieve a happier balance with food, exercise and work, schedule a time to have a chat and see what changes can be made to improve your life for the better. #healthyeating #stayfitandhealthy #worrylesslivemore

19.01.2022 Cooking is an essential process for producing edible foods, it's also a very intimate and personal activity, and even more so when we cook for someone else we care for. Eating habits have evolved with us and we now cook with more modern techniques, but over the long history of human evolution one, this about food has stuck. It brings us together and allows us to do something for another, a bit like giving a gift cooking a meal for another is a show of affection, love or frien...dship. It doesn't have to be a 5-star meal either, its the simple act of spending time to create something good for another person. You can get more satisfaction out of cooking a meal for someone than taking them out. Now I don't mean the daily family cooking, I am talking about the meal you creat for your wife, husband, friend or whoever that special person is in your life. So give it a go, create something personal for a special person in your life. #mintnutrition #eathealthystayhealthy #keepsmiling

17.01.2022 Nut butter's are growing popularity and can be found in all the major supermarkets and street markets up and down the country. Any edible nut is able to be ground and pulsed into a delicious paste fo you to enjoy with your favourite condiment. Nut butter offers several beneficial nutrients, as they are simply ground up nuts they contain all the goodness the whole nut has. Full of protein, healthy monounsaturated fats, minerals like selenium (needed for DNA and protein synthes...is) and magnesium. Almonds for instance contain good amounts of calcium and iron. Brazils contain heaps of selenium, copper and magnesium. Make sure you check that you are buying the natural product as some brands add extra sugars and ingredients to bulk out the spread. Keep your eye out for some nut butter and be adventurous and give one a go, I recommend the Royals NOYA brand, they are a bit more expensive than general peanut butter but totally worth it. The ABC (almond/brazil/cashew) is really quite smooth and tasty. #nutrition #mintnutrition #healthyeating #nuts #diabetes #nutritioneducation Image: Cooking Light

14.01.2022 So who is Mint Nutrition QLD? Mint Nutrition is me!! Conway Deacon British born and now Australian (even got the certificate to prove it lol, 100% Aussie) who is fulfiling a lifelong goal of becoming a scientist of sorts. I have done several interesting jobs in my life that include: Beekeeper, Train Driver and Squash Coach.... Been married for 21 years to my Wife Tiia Deacon who is a Finn (I know what was I thinking lol). Currently live in the Redlands with my wife and two adult kids, two dogs and over 400 plants! My passion for human health and nutrition has stemmed from my personal journey and the desire to help others in their time of need achieve a healthy life without complex and restrictive diets. Life is for living and enjoying, not being tied down by restrictions and complex rules. I have always wanted to do a Science Degree and join the ranks of the many scientists in the field and now this is becoming a reality. I hope to see many happy clients in the future and help them get to where they want to go..

13.01.2022 Its time to attend the first stay at the home festival of 2021. Brisbane and the surrounding regions are being placed in a three-day compulsory lockdown. So now is a great time to clear out some of the at 2020 panic bought foods. Plenty of recipe idea to be found on the net but one great dish that can use up some of your rice is rice pilaf. Simple to create and several varients exist but the most basic is rice chopped onions, capsicum, parsley and seasoning. Have a cleanout and save yourself a trip to the ships.. Stay at home, stay safe and most of all be happy, take the time to call up a mate or family member who may be vulnerable..

11.01.2022 Food safety is pretty important, clean it well, store it well, and cook it well and you will be on the right track to good food safety. Image: #NutritionAustralia

10.01.2022 Making small changes now will reap big rewards in the long run. The path to a goal is often as important as the goal itself. What ever your nutritional or health goal is, just know that small decisions both good and bad can have much larger consequences in the future. Understanding that there is not simple and fast fix to many of life's problems is key to success. Take weight loss for example, if you set a goal to lose 10kg, then that's a good start, just understand that in t...wo weeks you wont be 10kg lighter. Its simple little changes that add up to the bigger benefits. This van be translated to making small incremental changes to your life. Walking just that bit longer, opting to eat fruit over cakes just once or twice a week. Add another vegetable option to your dinner. Small changes will help foster new behaviours, and if something does not sit right or you dont enjoy the change after a week or so then change it up. Making changes for the better is about being happy and enjoying what you are doing and always ask yourself "why am I doing this?". If you need motivation and help then seek out a professional who will help you along in your journey, just remember you dont need to do it alone.

10.01.2022 Are you curious about what secrets your DNA holds? 2003 saw the human genome project come to an end, 13 years of unpacking and analyzing 3 billion individual base pairs that make up a human's DNA. This ushered in the era of personal genetic testing through direct-to-consumer companies. Testing in Australia now can be done for less than $200, but is it worth it? Before you venture down this avenue you need to ask why are you curious and what will the information do for you? Mu...ch of the evidence for gene, drug, and nutrient interaction is still in its early stages of development and relatively few absolutes can be taken from the results. If you do choose to get a test to ensure that you have an appropriate health professional sit with you and explain the results. Also, consider the ramifications of informing your insurance company of the test, you may see your policy increase or even be canceled. See more

07.01.2022 Do you take much notice of your water intake? Water or H2O as its chemically known is an important chemical solvent in our bodies. Without it, we would find life impossible. The average male is consists of 60-70% water by volume and an average female is 50-55%. The differences in lean muscle account for water volume differences. Normal everyday life will see the average 70kg human need 2-3L for optimal body function. If we add to this increases exercise or work effort this ca...n double or triple depending on duration, heat, body composition, and type of exercise. Water really is the chemical of life and we simply cannot do without it, a loss of just 2% of body weight during exercise will see the effects of dehydration set in, that's just 1.4kg in a 70kg human. Stay hydrated and stay healthy as dehydration is far too common amongst Australians and is easily avoided for many. #mintnutritionqld #eathealthyfood #stayhydrated #wellness #mentalhealthawareness See more

06.01.2022 We are now in the cooler months of the year and that calls for some good old hotpots, stews, soups, and casseroles.. the great thing with these is that you don't need to follow any set recipe or rules, other than slow cook and add what you like. Traditionally this dish is a meat and veg affair but you can substitute the meat for fish, tofu, or just more veg.. this one is lamb and seasonal veg... Lamb Butternut squash Green beans... Shallots Carrots Corn Spinach (frozen) Cherry tomatoes Leek Potato Zucchini Coconut shavings Handfull of wholemeal pasta Sesame seeds Water Olive oil (Extra Virgin) Seasoning and flavors Fresh dill, partly and rosemary Hungarian paprika Turmeric Salt and cracked pepper (minimal salt) Dried oregano If you want to see the finished result you will need to wait a few hours and hope it doesn't get eaten before a can grab a shot...

03.01.2022 Great to see fresh produce at the Brisbane City Markets.. snagged me some purple potatoes of all things...
