25.01.2022 Muddling my way along this weave with Lomandra

24.01.2022 Coming together beautifully. I'm so excited for the creativity in the year ahead

23.01.2022 Something very cute is arriving at Mint Willow Studio tonight. Keep an eye out. I Herd (pun intended) that you might like them

23.01.2022 Yay, its feather day for this piece! Beautiful commission for a lovely lady.

22.01.2022 Hey guys, shout out for a crafty friend. My friend Line (pronounced Leena) has her own Facebook page called Viking Plunder Craft. Check out the funky beanies she sells... you can customise which colours you like and she is super fast at creating. Personally, she is a shy chick and I'd love to send some love her way. She is very crafty and very clever (& like most women - doesn't give herself enough credit) I think she is pretty awesome!!! And extremely brave - she moved to Australia from Norway around 6 years ago... not knowing anyone aside from her husband. That's courage. Please if you can, please send this humble, yep creative and generous (she donates lots of her creations) a whole heap of love. Build a sister up xx

22.01.2022 Hey guys if you are finding elastic a little tight on your masks, pull the tie out of the sleeve and loosen it off and re-tie... after threading and knotting 500+ I may have gotten a little tight with the ties

21.01.2022 These gorgeous little nature games are heading off to Hearth Galleries in Healesville tomorrow

20.01.2022 Its done!!! I loathe night time pics... but i just had to share!!! Cant wait to get it framed

20.01.2022 Today was delivery day! Literally she passed from my hands to yours. She is the story of women, the circle of our life; days, weeks, years, thoughts and hopes woven together. ... A woman is a handmaker. She often quietly and continually weaves threads from around her and within her to build her own core. The core of who she is. It grows stronger as she does. Pulling and stitching the threads together, binding and building to create a place where she can give from. Many small and fine strands are unified to generate strength. She is a symbol of softness and ingenuity. She flourishes, she fails, she hopes, she has fortitude. Above all else she weaves with resilience... The circle represents the coming together of women, of unity by hand and heart. The net is a linking stitch that binds us all together and the Emu feathers, both soft yet strong capture our ability to be secure and resolute when needed, and tender and peaceful during life's trials. We use our hands to hold, to soothe and to nurture. We use our hands to create and unify. And so she is titled "The woman's weave" Thank you Ella for collecting one of my pieces xxxxx much love and gratitude for being you

20.01.2022 It worked!!!! I just dyed my own turquoise raffia, ready for a sea inspired basket bowl. Oh dear... what have I started lol. Looks like this might be something else to have on the go

19.01.2022 Its getting closer! As it does my excitement and nerves go up a notch. I have entered my piece 'Woven Wanderer ' in the emerging artists category. ... Now that restrictions have eased my whole family will make the trip in to see all of the beautiful pieces once the Koori Heritage Trust opens its doors again post Corona. Looking forward to the launch @koorie_heritage_trust_inc

19.01.2022 And so it begins. Its wednesday night, my back has been sore all afternoon and for some bizarre reason I feel like I must start this, right this minute! Cuckoo

18.01.2022 Loves post day when my artwork is heading off to its new owners

17.01.2022 I recently was commissioned by the Australian Breastfeeding Association, Warrnambool Branch to create a logo for next year's conference. At first I thought I'd over simplified it, but after feedback from the organisers realised this was just what it needed to be. The icons are a meeting place, women sitting and a circle of children. Abstractly It kinda looks like a nipple too! I will pretend I did that on purpose. ... Emma Fry, the Breastfeeding consultant I liased with explained that the conference has Up to 200 breastfeeding counsellors and community educators, as well as trainees. It’s 2 days of education about breastfeeding and issues/research related to breastfeeding. Guest speakers include Health Professionals who work directly with mother and babies, researchers. We have counsellors who have lived experience in specific areas, like breastfeeding a baby with Down syndrome, cleft palates, premature babies, inducing lactation for adoptive parents or non birthing mothers. We also aimed to be more inclusive of Indigenous women in our communities - well that ticks all the boxes for me. I hope its a wonderful conference and thanks for allowing my artwork to represent Warrnambool xx @mrs_emma_fry

04.01.2022 Progress shot. Sat myself on the daybed upstairs, watched as it got very windy outside and the clouds changed colour from white fluffy, to low and grey. The sun on my back has been devine!

04.01.2022 Not my usual colours but I ordered this raffia a little while ago. When I was in Broken Hill a month ago I found these beautiful gums that have a smidge of purple - Together they look gorgeous, the raffia is called 'wild raspberry' and it goes perfectly with the wild garlic flowers and a stem or two of gum. My collection grows... i have another little vase on the go at the moment to compliment this one. What's your thoughts guys... anyone keen to buy some? I probably don't... need to have too many more around our place (is there even ever too many) #weave #nature #vase #vessel #raffia #wildraspberry #weaversofinstagram #coilweaving #craftschooloz #theraffiaconnection #mintwillowstudio

My next step will be to add emu feathers around the outside (haven't figured it out how yet)... #weave #nature #culture #coilweaving #netweave #raffia #fibreart #storyteller #indigenousart

01.01.2022 "Scarsdale Sleepy" This small basket has been woven in raffia, and finished with Sleepy lizard rib bones, kindly and thoughtfully collected from the red dirt of Scarsdale Station. These lizards were a much loved part of my childhood. Being a tom boy I regularly caught, admired and then released these beauty's. I distinctly remember how the shingleback scales felt in my hand. ... Did you know these lizards are monogamous, the male will follow the female closely for up to 8 weeks before they mate. Studies have shown they grieve the loss of their mate. So I honour this lizard and know it was loved #weaving #fibreart #raffia #nature #shingleback #scarsdale #reddirt #thelovelybones #outbacknsw #coilweaving @theshadybaker @theraffiaconnection @craftschooloz
