25.01.2022 MIOCC Corporate Governance. Each person who belongs to Maggies family is proud to live and breathe the principles of MIOCC'S Corporate Governance. It is good and decent values that gives them the pride to holdtheir heads up high. MIOCC is about the paddlers and its community- local, Australia wide and overseas we contribute. "We are not the strength of one we are the strength of many"

11.01.2022 Great weekend for a paddle

11.01.2022 Our official naming and blessing of our canoes was conducted on Saturday 19th September with a very traditional ceremony. We are blessed by the sponsorship by our Local Government- a big thank you to Townsville City Council for making this happen...we are very blessed. Maggie Island Outriggers, affectionately known as Maggie are the caretakers of a beach area that belongs to the Wulgurukaba people who are the traditional owners of this area. Maggie doesn’t see outrigging a...s just a sport where people just engage in physical activity, we see it as a coming together of people who love being on the water and are prepared to be grounded in culture and tradition.Maggie was joined on Saturday 19th September 2020 by our Traditional Owners -Wulgurukaba People- Virginia Wyles , Bindal People - Gracelyn Smallwood(in spirit) Vicki Saylor Manbarra and Torres Strait Island People Jazz Singer, Pastor Ben Pearson, all the water Sports Townsville Outrigger Canoe Club, Coral Sea Outrigger Canoe Club, Townsville Sailing Club, Townsville SUP, Phoenix Dragon Boat Club, Pink Dragon Boat Club and young adults from Rollingstone Lions Club, and Townsville City Council to help not only celebrate this Outrigging Tradition but to come together as people to acknowledge resilience during these times when things are tough- COVID 19. is not a Club but a hub that connects people like family entwined in both culture and paddling instead of a group of members . Blessing of the fleet and Club area or naming a boat ceremony is a tradition and apart of the Culture at Maggie ((Magnetic Island Outrigger Canoe Club- MIOCC). The ceremony involved families, friends, other outriggers to celebrate the start of a new season, new beginning or boat that is joining the fleet with the traditional Blessing of the Fleet ceremony. The Blessing is important as it brings a cleansing of the area ,new beginnings and a protectiveness(blessing)for many safe journeys. The blessing of the fleet clearly demonstrated just how proud the local community is of the strong history and its commitment to the future of Maggie and its family as well as passing on this culture to future generations. The Blessing of the Fleet on this day commenced a whole array of learning and development within the Townsville and water sports community with Welcome to Country, Smoking ceremony and blessing of the Fleet and naming of one of our new canoes. The OC6 Maolo was name Ika Ika(meaning flying fish) TT the 2 letters following are important as they are the letters representing an affectionate name we gave a Maggie family who was taken from us tragically. We invited her immediate family to help Pastor Ben and Virginia(Traditional Owner)name and christened her. The Oc1- kahele was named Honu Moana. (meaning sea turtle)
