23.01.2022 Round 9 Match Report: U14 YG V Newtown Swans @ Waratah Friday Night Lights... What a fantastic game to wrap up the season. Under lights on a Friday night & got a solid win ! Our first clash with Newtown Swans for the season, and the teams were evenly matched on paper. Both sides fielded a full 15 on field, bombers had a slight advantage with our 1 win already in the bag. From the opening bounce we asserted physical pressure on the contest. Swans could not get an easy possession & we shut down their runners. Getting reward for the tackles we started to get clearances our way & the midfield worked hard to support the forwards. Kicking the opening goal was well celebrated on and off the field. Leading at qtr time was a great reward for the effort. Swans did well in the 2nd qtr with some long kicking into defense but our back line worked hard to lock it down & repel the attacks. We got a little sucked into the back line contest with kicks out going to swans who sent it back in. Swans finally got their scoreboard going. Second half we kept our structure better and our midfield & wings got on top with plenty of the ball into our half. As the scoreboard shows he had lots of shots & kept the pressure on. Amelie kicked her 1st ever goal which the team all celebrated. Our new players got into the contest & helped us get the ball moving our way. Great to see the entire team working hard & enjoying the win well done, can’t wait for season ‘21

22.01.2022 Match Report: Elimination Preliminary Final - WIN! U12 Div 3 Bombers V Cronulla ... @ Waratah And we thought last weekend’s game was stressful.... After finishing the regular season as minor premiers the 12-3s came up against 4th placed Cronulla in semi final 1, with a grand final berth up for grabs. The boys were fired up in the sheds but nervous as they took to the field. They managed to take an early lead on the scoreboard thanks to a goal from Zach and some strong rucking from Oscar and mid work from Jack, who looked to be everywhere at once in Q1. After the break the Sharks came at us with everything they had and pulled two points ahead by half time. Nerves got the better of us in this quarter, with some rushed kicks and hand passes. Continued solid efforts in the middle from Oz, Mikey and Rohan kept us in the fight. We managed to keep Cronulla scoreless in the third term, with the lead changing again. A great sprinting save by Spencer of an almost certain goal helped us stay ahead by just a point at the final break. Cronulla opened Q4 with a quick goal and Isaac’s speedy response was sadly called touched. Some gutsy mid work from Rohan drew a penalty and allowed him to feed the ball forward to Tyler for our first goal since the first quarter. With the scores now level and the clock ticking down tensions were running high (particularly on the sideline!). With roughly a minute to go on the clock another successful centre clearance sent the ball into Zach’s hands on the half forward line. His ability to stay calm and slot it through for a goal allowed us to pull 6 points ahead. One last ruck went safely into Mikey’s hands (thanks Ozzie!) as the final siren sounded and the boys and the sideline went nuts. Once again the 12-3s showed some gritty determination to keep their heads up despite an onslaught from their opposition, and a willingness to keep fighting to the final siren. Congrats to all the boys, with special mentions to gutsy midfielder Rohan for taking out BOG and to our leading goal kicker Zach for keeping his cool when we really needed it. Thanks to game day helpers Daniel, Dean, Riley and Chris as well as Andrew and Mike behind the scenes. Ananda and Michelle in the canteen... and a special thanks to Karen and Julia for providing well earned treats for the boys after the game. And finally thanks to all the families and club members who were there to cheer us on. What an amazing season the boys have had - watching them come together to form a true team has been really special and they’ve truly earned their spot in the big dance next Sunday. Go Bombers !!! Al and Dave

18.01.2022 Round 9 Match Report: U12YG round 9 V Glebe Greyhounds @ Waratah... What a game to finish the season. The girls put the last few disappointing results behind them and played some terrific football to beat Glebe on a scoreline of 7.547 to 2.3-15. In a cagey opening quarter both teams were struggling to gain the upper hand. Glebe scored the only goal of the quarter but it was a very even affair. The bombers lined up with Captain Keziah manning the last line of defence and as always, she was proving to be very tough to beat. In front of her was a half back line of Myah, Shiloh and Nani who between them restricted Glebe to just 2 goals for the game. In the second quarter the Bombers began to win the territorial battle. Nikita was starting to exert her dominance around the ruck and contest and in turn the midfield of Ashleigh, Hannah and Molly began to get the ball moving into our forwards. Up front Chelsea, Eve, Jordan and Elise were competing hard to keep the ball locked in our forward half. Eventually the pressure told with Jordan kicking our first goal. That goal seemed to be the kickstart the girls needed. In the 3rd quarter they started to dominate possession and you see them gaining in confidence. Paige, Laila and Zara completed our team on the day and continued the hard running and tackling of the team. You could sense that this was a game that the girls were not going to lose. Jordan and Shiloh both kicked goals to extend our lead and while Glebe kicked one towards the end of the quarter it was totally against the run of play. In the final quarter the girls kicked away with goals from Jordan (her 3rd), Shiloh again and Ash (x2) to complete a fine victory and performance. It was thoroughly deserved for their outstanding attitude and work throughout the season. As regards our division, the teams in places 3 -6 all finished on level points. Unfortunately, the girls finished in 5th place, missing out on finals by a percentage of 1.85%. One goal being the difference. Such is life and sport. It was still a great end to a hugely enjoyable season. The girls can be very proud of themselves. Go Bombers!
18.01.2022 Congratulations U14 Div 2 Bombers! 2020 Premiers!!! Go Bombers!!! ...

11.01.2022 Round 9 Match Report: U10 Bombers Grey v Penshurst Green @ Waratah What a great last game the Grey’s had on Sunday against Penshurst, starting out quite evenly matched. But as always the boys rallied and pretty much everyone had their best game of the year. Marking was outstanding, showing just how far we have come this year with our skills. Kicking was big and precise. Hand-balling was on point. The ball was shared around and goals were flowing and most certainly celebrated.... Strong defence kept the ball down our end. Top goal scorers were Miles and Billy with two each after some big marks. It was obvious that the boys all had a great time out there, they worked well together, reading the field and helping each other out time and time again, the hard work at training has really paid off. Players of the day went to Paddy and Harry. Paddy was very strong in the mids, running into every contest for the ball and tackling fearlessly. Harry showed how he is a strong ruckman in the making and got stuck into lots of contests Thanks again to all our volunteers for the day with goal umpire, voters & canteen. Great work boys, we’re already looking forward to next season!
09.01.2022 Huuuuuge Congratulations To Jamie Caetano! Sydney Harbour U17 Div 3 B&F for 2020!!! Awesome effort Jamie ... Well done on a great season

06.01.2022 A special thank you to our outgoing club president Andrew Briggs. Bomber family, at our recent AGM a number of committee roles changed. The role of club president being the most significant. ... After 5 extremely productive years at the helm, Andrew Briggs has called time on his tenure in charge of our footy club. The incredibly talented Tod Brealey is now officially our club president. We are in good hands. Being the first ever former Bombers junior player to fill the big role, we thank you immensely Andrew. We really are in great shape going forward as a club and this is directly as a result of your time ‘in the big chair’ Taking the reins from our previous president, Frank Cashman, Andrew had his hands full straight away with the final planning and build of the new shared (Southern Power) club house, along with our brand new home ground at Waratah. This ground re build was one thing. Ensuring we still played as a club during, required a Herculean effort and that is exactly what Andrew provided. Apart from literally being at Waratah every Sunday (along with countless other hours of a week) during season, being the hands on president we’ve all come to know... We had an amazing 60th club anniversary season of celebration led by Andrew’s passion for the red and black. Our player numbers/teams fielded have grown (and continue to grow) to an all time high. We currently have teams in every playing age group from Auskick to U17 - with a number of ages fielding multiple teams. From zero to now 3 Youth Girl teams!!! (we’re sure that will continue to climb!). Miranda continues to supply AFL south with the largest amount of umpires from our playing ranks. With 5 players included in Sydney Harbour B&F ranks this season, our culture of competitiveness, fairness and great sportsmanship is standing out and being recognised. Our inclusive culture we are so proud of here at the Bombers has come from the top. Navigating us though COVID was not in the script, but it was handled brilliantly. For all of your hard work, forward thinking and your players first always approach, on behalf of Miranda Bombers, Andrew (and Alison, Evan and Aaron!) we thank you! Andrew of course will still be at the club for a good while to come, as both Evan and Aaron continue their playing time with us, so when you see him in a more relaxed state next season... it’s well earned! Go The Bombers!!!

04.01.2022 Grand Final Match Report: U12 Div 3 Bombers V Moore Park Tigers @Heathcote Oval... We were so proud to watch the 12-3s run out behind game day captains Rohan and Jack for their grand final against Moore Park. Having only lost one game all season they thoroughly deserved to take the field on a sunny Sunday at Heathcote. We knew the Tigers would be tough opponents and they didn't disappoint - they were easily the most skillfull team in our division and the game was hard fought and close from the outset. We held our own in the first quarter with an early goal by Moore Park quickly matched by one from our own Isaac. Another goal by the Tigers before quarter time put us down by 9 points at the break. The boys had a strong second quarter, holding the Tigers scoreless and narrowing the gap on the scoreboard to less than one straight kick. We kept the pressure on in the third term, only allowing the Tigers to score two behinds which we matched with two minor scores of our own. This kept the margin unchanged at the final break - just one straight kick away from the lead. Heartbreakingly Moore Park scored early in the final quarter and followed that with another goal to pull 17 points ahead. Despite fighting till the final siren, we were unable to wind back the deficit, going down 30-14. Congratulations to Roman for being nominated best on ground by the umpires, receiving a medal and the match ball -an honour and testament to his gutsy on-field effort. Well done too to Isaac for receiving the team best on ground award - always one of our most valuable players and a huge team man. Overall though it was, like every game we played this year, a real team effort. All the boys gave it everything, and the huge applause from our sideline as they left the field was acknowledgement of that. A massive thank you to our team families for all their help and support over the season - be it wearing the runners bib, water carrying, goal umpiring, donning the medical bib, doing a canteen shift, helping at training or in the warm up or best and fairest voting, we could not have done it without you all. Special thanks to Karen G and Michelle for the post game snacks this week. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the boys and watching them develop over the year. What a season and what a team - minor premiers and grand finalists! We can’t wait to see what the boys can do next year in under 13s!! Alison and Dave
04.01.2022 Round 9 Match Report: U12 Div 3 Bombers V Moore Park Tigers @Waratah... A double 50 game banner for two of our most courageous players seemed a fitting way to start our last round of the regular season - congratulations Mikey and Roman! In terms of opponents we also finished the season where we started - up against the Moore Park Tigers. And although not our best performance it was definitely the most determined we have seen the boys and our hardest fought and most satisfying win. The boys wanted to win today and worked hard all game to make that happen. Moore Park have some quality, physical players and it was so pleasing to see us step up in intensity to match the Tigers every counter attack. It was definitely another true team effort on the field this week. Oscar once again dominated in the rucks and our feisty mids capitalised on this. Game day captain Mikey took a couple of big hits but, as always, kept fighting for the loose ball. Champion. A lonnnnnnng for goal for Jack fired him up for a slew of massive tackles, with similar efforts from Lachlan and Rohan. Our half forwards were once again heavily involved, constantly worrying the opposition backs, in winning their own ball and capitalising on the hard work of their team mates - culminating in two more goals each for Isaac and Zac. Our backline had probably their toughest game of the season as the pressure from the Moore Park forwards was relentless. Az, Spencer, Levi, Saxon, Angus and Ryder shut down multiple scoring opportunities from the opposition. Our three best on ground recipients this week are true team men - contributing whenever and wherever they were on the field. Congratulations to Dylan who had his best season to date and to Levi and Aston who both hit the ground running in only their first year of AFL. A great post match celebration was topped off by a cheeky drenching of the coach courtesy of his son (and another large bearded child who shall remain nameless!). Thank you to all the parents who stressfully paced the sidelines with us and especially to game day helpers Daniel, Hunter, Naomi, Gemma, Jayden, Chris, Charmaine, Liam, Sharon and Paul. We are super proud of the boys’ efforts this season and they have thoroughly earned their achievement of minor premiers and their spot in the semis. Al and Dave
