21.01.2022 Belting it out at the Tropical Fruits Cabaret photo by the totally wonderful Brad Mustow. Glad I got my teeth done ...
20.01.2022 My little monthly jazz cabaret night, Toot Your Own Horn, has been cancelled for March (this Thursday eve). The Alexandria Sunday Fun Day family festival, which I host every March, has been cancelled for 2020. And you know what? It's a huge pity and a big waste of time and effort but it's for the best until this dreadful virus thing plays out and we know what we're up against in Australia. Stay safe everyone, and prioritise your health, and consequently that of your loved ones, over everything else.
20.01.2022 HOW THE BOTTOM CAN LITERALLY FALL OUT OF A CABARET EVENT This NYE marked my fourth year of hosting the Cabaret stage of the Tropical Fruits party at Lismore Showgrounds. Under the keen eye of Nora Vidler-Blanksby this has gone from so-bad-it's-good to genuinely entertaining in a few short years. All the performers are still volunteers but they are a diverse, interesting and engaging cohort. There are way more applicants than we can fit into a 9pm11.30pm gig. It finishes in t...Continue reading
19.01.2022 This is me finishing my Annie Lennox look, 20 years ago. The canvas I'm painting has worn a bit in the interim ...
19.01.2022 Hi everyone! This is a week or so old but I don't think this young man has had his beautiful instruments returned from a car theft in Chippendale. Please watch out for these items in your musical travels ...
18.01.2022 Sang the other day at the 5th birthday/Mardi Gras celebrations for Stan. My backup dancer was none other than the very outgoing Beau Ryan, whose fourth time in drag made me look, well, very ladylike by comparison. A lot of fun.
18.01.2022 Sometimes I even look glamorous! Here's a wonderful shot by Mark Huntly Gordon from the birthday party of Mr John Revai last week.
17.01.2022 Here I am at Toot Your Own Horn performing a John Revai co-rewrite of 'Georgy Girl' with, um, more topical lyrics. No it's not jazz but it certainly hit the spot. Thanks to the lovely Gregory Devine for the video!
17.01.2022 In October 2018 I was very proud to co-present a little doco made by the talented Andrew Piper, a student at the Australian Film, Radio and Television School (AFTRS). It's "A Nearly True Documentary" in which I travel around the country in a cute little caravan but the final gig of my tour is at a real Toot Your Own Horn. If you're a regular, watch and see if you're in it!
17.01.2022 If you want something beautiful in your day today, just click play on this: two young and very talented Australians observing social distance.
16.01.2022 What I'd love to look like. *sigh* Australian photographer Athol Shmith, Australian model Margaret Hibble, c.1958. Perfection.
16.01.2022 Dobbed in by my self-appointed "manager" Greg Devine to perform at the Tropical Fruits post-parade soiree in Lismore the other day. It's always a fun crowd, very open, diverse and welcoming even in the afternoon heat of the subtropics. Photos by Brad Mustow.
13.01.2022 Don't forget the Bilpin Flower Show and Spring Fair is on this weekend! I'm meeting and greeting on the Saturday. This hat is from the 2017 show ... I trotted it out for just the second time last weekend at Coastal Twist. That's why I looked so floral!
11.01.2022 Singing at the Tropical Fruits NYE Cabaret. Photo by Brad Mustow!
11.01.2022 I look much more under the weather than I was ... at Kurrajong Heights bowlo on Friday night with my friend Valerie. Lots of fun!
10.01.2022 This is the last song of the 2018 NYE Tropical Fruits Cabaret, when all the beautiful artists joined me onstage for a high-powered climax to the night. It was as fantastic as it looks one of my most treasured Fruits memories! Thanks yet again to the amazing Brad Mustow for this incredible shot.
10.01.2022 Here I am on the weekend at the very first Coastal Twist festival, talking to ABC Central Coast. (Voice a little deeper than usual ... must be their microphone.) I'm in at the 2.23 mark.
10.01.2022 It was fantastic to host the Summer Hill Public School P&C annual trivia fundraiser recently on the big stage at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL. They're a really fun mob, they got all my jokes, and I sang a couple of 1980s numbers! :)
08.01.2022 Hey if you're at the inaugural Coastal Twist LGBT+ pride festival in Ettalong & Umina on Sunday 6th October, come along to Fair Day at 1pm and experience the 'Hour of Power' where lots of artists including me perform a number each in a full-on cabaret session. I'm totally fabulised to be included in what will surely become an iconic annual event. Not to be missed! With Gregory Devine.
05.01.2022 I love my little weekly gig in Sydney! It's Turbo Trivia in the very pleasant Strand Hotel in William Street, East Sydney, every Monday night. The crowd is all ages, some very competitive and always a LOT of fun! We have drinks vouchers of $50, $30 and $10 for the winners plus other special prizes all night. Q&A by the wise and wonderful Portia Turbo! Starts 7.30pm, goes to about 9.30pm. The Strand does great food as well their schnitzels are legendary.
05.01.2022 In our caravan looking at options for a route home from Broken Hill during the Broken Heel Festival in 2017. We always have our GayWare and fluffy woollen tea cosy with us. Photo by the ABC for a Radio National report on our Gay Nomads Facebook group.
03.01.2022 Fun at the Strand Hotel on Monday night with my long-time friends who brought their mates along for a high-powered table at Turbo Trivia! We are slowly garnering a following ... there are prizes of $50, $30 and $10 of drinks from the bar plus cocktails and jugs of beer ... but the main thing is to have a good time on a Monday night!
03.01.2022 I didn't realise I would be safe from COVID anyway!
