08.01.2022 As we approach the school holidays, we ask that you take time to engage in support and to take care of your physical, emotional, and mental health. Spend time doing activities that connect and nourish you and making the effort to notice and check in with yourself and others. 07.01.2022 Wednesday 11 November marked 102 years since the armistice brought the gunfire and shelling to an end on the Western Front. In Mirani, a small contingent gathered at the cenotaph to commemorate the occasion, and pause to remember Australia’s fallen. Year 11 leaders, Caden Head and Flynn Molloy carried on tradition, taking part in the Passing the Australian Spirit Ceremony, passing poppies and flags to the leaders of Mirani State School. Caden and Flynn laid a wreath on behal...f of Mirani State High School students and staff. Year 12 Cultural Captains, Caitlin Milne and Lucy Baulch, laid poppies at the cenotaph representing their own remembrance of the fallen. Caitlin broke the minutes’ silence with the Ode, while Lucy ended the ceremony with a story of remembrance. Ms Adams would like to thank the student leaders and Modern History students for their contributions to the day, and their display of Valley Pride at the ceremony.

07.01.2022 On the 28th -30th August, Ella Kersey and Matisse Bloye represented the school in the Middle Schools State Honours Ensemble Program in Mackay with other advanced students from Central Queensland. They rehearsed with Griffith University Conservatorium staff for over 10 hours to produce a culminating concert of outstanding music. We are so very proud of our Instrumental Music students at Mirani High and the way that they represent our school with pride. Lecturers commented on the high level of ability and focus shown by all students and the girls loved every minute! Congratulations Ella and Matisse!

07.01.2022 Our Awards Parade is fast approaching. This year the event is in a very different format due to COVID restrictions being held at school with all students in attendance. This student only event is happening on Wednesday 18th November 2020 during school hours. Awards practice is on Tuesday 17th for award recipients. Students who are eligible to receive an award will get a letter today in Homegroup. Parent letters have been posted out advising your child’s eligibility to recei...ve an award. Students can also check if they are receiving an award at the entry to the school’s office. Students must be in the correct school uniform to receive their award. There are two other major changes to our awards process: The 2021 captains will not be announced till next year in the anticipation that their parents can attend. Our current captains parent / guardians had the opportunity to be at their child’s announcement. This will hopefully enable the same opportunity for the 2021 Captains’ families. External exams can contribute 50% to a students final mark in Year 12. Therefore we have a small group of extremely high-achieving academic students who mathematically could be the 2020 Dux. This small group of students will receive an Academic Blue Award which makes them all Dux Dignus. One of these students will then be recognised as our Valedictorian. This is the student who has achieved Mirani State High’s highest school-based exam results. See more
