25.01.2022 Our thoughts are with the Police force after such a tragedy
25.01.2022 At 330 this afternoon the Brigade were called to a house fire . The Brigade response was delayed due to incorrect address details being given . It is important to know your address and the nearest cross st to your address . Quick thinking action by a neighbor helped keep the fire small till the Brigade arrived to fully extinguished the fire . The fire is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette placed in a tin at the front of the house . Thanks to the neighbor and the Brigade response damage was kept to a minimum https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/fires-in-the-home

23.01.2022 Did you know that approximately 10% of Victoria's bushfires are caused by campfires? To support the safety of Victorians, Conservation Regulator officers are pa...trolling popular campsites across the state, looking for unsafe campfires and educating the public. Before lighting a campfire, make sure you're familiar with the safety rules: https://www.ffm.vic.gov.au//CanICantIcampfireandbbqbrouchu In addition to campfire safely, remember to be COVIDSafe. This includes wearing a fitted face mask, practising physical distancing, ensuring proper hand hygiene including the use of hand sanitiser, and observing group size limits.
23.01.2022 This is positive news but there is still a long way to go . Stay safe and remember. Your not stuck at home your safe at home.
23.01.2022 Today is National First Responder Day . Wed like to thank the PM for his kind words and our wonderful community for your continued support .
22.01.2022 Restrictions will start to be eased. As these changes are introduced, we ask that you continue to observe the physical distancing guidelines, to help to protec...t yourself and others from coronavirus (COVID-19). Ensure a distance of at least 1.5 metres is kept between yourself and others and always cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you dont have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow. Learn more about the new restrictions here: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus

21.01.2022 Quick reminder to everyone in Mirboo North who has children. Christmas Eve we will be assisting Santa with his annual pre Christmas Lolly drop. Starting from 5...:00 pm we will be travelling along every street marked in purple and blue. We anticipate this to take around 2 hours for us to complete the whole town area. Once again we will be using 2 trucks to enable us to cover the town a bit faster. Purple will be starting on the eastern side of town and working it’s way west. Blue will start by heading out to golf links estate and Darlimurla (estate and township), then back into town and work its way through the northern part of town. There will be some sections where due to the difficulty of turning the trucks around and trying to make the run efficient without overlaps you may need to move up to the corner of the street. These streets will likely be, Scarlet st, Evelyn crt, Pincini st, Mill Rd, old Darlimurla rd, Railway Rd. Hope to see you all out and about Thursday evening.
20.01.2022 Mirboo North Brigade will be sounding the station siren this afternoon in unison with other Brigades
20.01.2022 With increased numbers of people working from home, CFA is warning of the potential for an increase in structural fires. Makeshift arrangements that allow norma...l school/office work to be performed at home has the potential to increase the risk of fire. There have been many instances when our favourite appliances have been the cause of a house fire, due to overheating or faulty electrical equipment. See more
20.01.2022 The Brigade have been busy working with the Shire preparing to undertake a planned burn in the Baths Rd Reserve . With fuel loadings at dangerous levels planned burning is essential to reduce the fire risk . As soon as conditions allow we will be conducting the burn . The last burn conducted by the Brigade in the reserve was in 2015 . These burns form part of the reserve management plan however the burn won't go ahead if the prescription conditions are not met
20.01.2022 The Annual Memorial Service for Firefighters will be held on Sunday 2 May in Melbourne to honour firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Fam...ily members and friends, CFA and VFBV, executives and government representatives will come together to lay wreaths, light candles, remember lives and honour the personal sacrifices and commitment firefighters make each and every day. Please note that bookings are essential due to COVID-19 venue restrictions. For more information, or to register, please click here: https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/-/cfa-commemorates-lost-lives-o

17.01.2022 Remember if you burn off at any time of year it is YOUR_ responsibility to keep it contained . If your fire escapes you may be held liable for any damage caused as well as face possible charges
16.01.2022 2 minute warning kids
16.01.2022 CFA is doing an enducation roadshow over the next little while. Given Mirboo North’s high risk of bushfire impacting the town should a fire start nearby, we highly recommend everyone and especially those who are new to the area to come along and learn how to be Fire Safe this season and into the future.
16.01.2022 A great explanation from our friends in NSW on the difference between back burning and fuel reduction or prescribed burning . Unfortunately too wet in our part of the world this year to do any burning but when conditions allow we will be burning

13.01.2022 Sunday 19/4/20 - 9 more cases, 1 more death. The numbers in brackets are change from yesterday 1328 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Victoria since ...January 25. 9(-8) more than yesterday. 134 (-2) cases from community transmission since the outbreak began 29 (-1) people are currently in hospital 1188 (16) people have recovered 15 (+1) deaths in total. A man in his 80s passed away. There are 125 (-7) active cases of coronavirus currently present in Viictoria. 82,000 (+3000) people have been tested. Total cases ( recovered and active) of coronavirus patients in nearby council areas. There are no figures available of only active cases. Bass coast 4 Baw Baw 5 Latrobe 7 (+1) S Gippsland 5 All cases do have to go into strict isolation, for at least 14 days, with police doing random checks. ___________________ It will take awhile for the daily cases to settle down, just like when the international arrivals stopped on March 30. There have been a few planes landing in the last few days with stranded Australians from overseas, I believe a few more will be landing in the next week too. This is important to bring these people home as international travel will be almost non existent for the rest of the year. The health departments now have a good setup with supervised Quarantine stations set up in hotels. These have been very effective. So in about 7 days, I am sure our case counts will be back to 1-2 a day, hopefully even a zero! The media is continuing to grab at straws, to try and make sensational headlines to get our attention. A story I read a few days ago when the new case counts where at 1 or 2, was 35 new cases this week, they couldnt make a scary story with One new case today (out of the Victorian population of 6.4 million). One of the positives of this Pandemic is now our ability to question what we read, actually determine what is the agenda they are trying to push. Its actually quite sad some of the emotions they are trying to get us to take on - racism, anxiety, anger... I am astounded at what they get away with. Health tip of the week - drink more water. With the cooler weather it is easy to forget this very important part of our diet. After all our hearts and brains are made up of 73% water. Often if you can have a water bottle and aim to empty it twice or decide to have a large glass of water every second hour eg 8 am 10 am 12pm etc, this is a prompt to get the right amount. 13.01.2022 Please be safe on the roads this Easter
13.01.2022 Only a working smoke alarm saves lives.
13.01.2022 Heres a great idea from a young man who knows better than most what can happen when fire comes quickly.
12.01.2022 Today, we reflect on the events of this time twelve years ago when 173 people tragically lost their lives in the 2009 fires. As our communities have forever changed, the loss will never be forgotten nor will the bravery of our firefighters.
12.01.2022 Some of you may have seen our Rescue and FCV responding to a call out last night 7/5/20 at around 7pm, we were called to assist Yarragon CFA and Warragul SES with the extrication of a person trapped in their car after it unfortunately ended up in a dam and they were unable to get out themselves. Jobs like these can be more difficult than regular road rescues and generally at least a couple of people have to get wet to ensure the patient is extricated in the safest possible way.
12.01.2022 Around 7pm on 8/5/20 the brigade was responded to reports of a bush fire in the lyrebird walk area. While not impossible it was highly improbable given the amount of rain recently. Turns out it was just a big bonfire that wasnt registered with the burn-off notification line. Even if you are just having a campfire, and want avoid the embarrassment of having the CFA turn up halfway though cooking your marshmallows. Call 1800 668 511
11.01.2022 Have you cleaned your chimney or flue lately? It was a close call for this Echuca resident who noticed a fire in their chimney yesterday and called 000, and cre...ws from Echuca Fire Brigade were able to quickly extinguish the blaze If youre lighting up your fireplace this weekend, ensure your check your chimney. Use a torch to check for creosote build-up or obstructions like bird nests. Have your chimney professionally cleaned annually. Echuca Fire Brigade
11.01.2022 While this story is from our northern neighbours we get our share of baler fires every year . It pays to keep your machinery well maintained and clean
10.01.2022 Council has been advised that the forecast for South Gippsland has changed. Up to 200mm of rainfall is now predicted for the South Gippsland catchment area this afternoon and into this evening. Current predictions are that from mid-to late-afternoon, 10-20mm per hour will fall on the catchment into the night.... Please be aware that roads may be flooded in low-lying areas. Do not attempt to drive or walk through floodwaters
10.01.2022 The advice to Victorians is very clear that if you can stay home, you must stay home. Police will be proactively patrolling places of mass gathering including beaches, to ensure restrictions are being complied with. Please stay home and help slow the spread of coronavirus.

09.01.2022 Sunday 3/5/20 Day 99 of the Covid19 pandemic. 13 new cases today. No new deaths. The numbers in brackets are change from yesterday ... 1384 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Victoria since January 25. 13 (+6) new cases since yesterday 142 (+1) cases from unknown transmission 12 (0) people are currently in hospital 1300 (0) people have recovered 18 (0) deaths in total. There are 66 active cases of coronavirus currently present in Victoria. 138,000 (9000) people have been tested. Total cases ( recovered and active) of coronavirus patients in nearby council areas. No change overnight. Bass coast 4 (last case 9/4/20) Baw Baw 5 (1/4/20) Latrobe 7 (19/4/20) S Gippsland 5 (11/4/20) Wellington 11 (29/4/20) ________________ With more than 9000 tests done over the last 24 hours, there has been 13 new cases of Coronavirus diagnosed. This shows that the testing Blitz is working well to screen thousands of people each day to wipe out any undiagnosed cases. Until we are given the all clear, we all know by now what we need to be doing to avoid spreading the virus. A lot of these recent cases are in a few areas in the metropolitan areas in Melbourne, we have been fortunate so far in Gippsland with only one case in the last 14 days. This one case, had a residential address in the Shire of Wellington. This may not be where they acquired the infection or currently reside. So keep going with social distancing of 1.5 metres or more. Health tip of the day - drink more water, with the colder weather I see a lot more mild cases of dehydration leading to urinary tract infections, lack of energy and longer term strain on the kidneys. Set an alarm to remind you to drink every 2 hours, or have a bottle you empty each day. 1.5 litres of water will be just right for you. Photo - the beautiful lighthouse at Wilsons Promontory, a special part of South Gippsland. It will be lovely when its open again for visitors.
08.01.2022 So far we have raised over$500 thanks to those who have donated so far. Lets keep it ticking over for a great cause

08.01.2022 While we are all following social distance guidelines the Brigade still need to be operational and members need to remain connected. We are using tools such as video conferencing ,email and of course phone calls to remain connected and enable us to keep serving . We can all stay connected without meeting physically. Stay safe, keep well and follow the guidlines and we will be through this before we know it
07.01.2022 Tomorrow morning at between 2am and 230 am the paging system to alert members will be down for maintenance. The Brigade will be notified of fire calls by telephone through the 000 system We will be using the station siren to alert members of any calls received during this time if needed .
06.01.2022 Don't forget today, Chrismas Eve, commencing at 5pm the jolly man in the red suit will be delivering Christmas cheer ( that's lollies kids ) from the back of a fire truck . So listen for the sirens and enjoy the evening
06.01.2022 This morning (4/6/20) at around 330am the brigade was called out to assist with a structure fire in the Hallston area. Unfortunately the structure was a total loss. Despite this everyone was able to have a good laugh at our 1st lieutenant who managed to bog the tanker, thankfully the owner of the property was happy to help extract our tanker from his front yard with a tractor. Big thanks to Hallston fire brigade, Allambee fire Brigade and Leongatha Fire Brigade for the team work on this fire.
06.01.2022 The word is wear a mask and be safe and sound, my word is Keep in touch ,talk to your family and friends make contact with those who are alone ,encourage one another, reassure those who are struggling during this time .Mental health is just as important as physical health in fact more so during these times as anxiety depression negativity can affect your immune system . Turn on music, sing your heart out and dance like no one is watching
05.01.2022 Thank you to all who donated and what a great result for the Childrens Hospital
05.01.2022 Yesterday at 315 pm our Brigade was called to assist Boolara with an escaped burn . This is the second in as many weeks . Please be mindful of conditions before you burn off and never leave your burn unattended
04.01.2022 The systems spoken about here were in use until 2010 in our community. There are still radios in private homes used as backup
04.01.2022 There has been a bit said in the media lately and on social media regarding Santa runs . At this stage we have NOT had any directive from CFA regarding Santa runs . Therefore until we have a clear directive our Brigade is working on a lolly drop of some sort going ahead in a Covid safe way. If there are changes we will let you know

03.01.2022 That's a wrap folks another one gone. We'd like to thank Berrys Creek FB for the loan of their tanker to help once again ferry Santa. Captain Dave and the members of our community brigade thank our great community for your continued support throughout the year . We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a fire safe and prosperous New Year.

02.01.2022 Monday 29/6/20 75 new cases today. No new deaths in Victoria. The numbers in brackets are change from yesterday ... 2099 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Victoria since January 25. 75 (34) new cases since yesterday 14 cases from known outbreaks 37 cases from routine testing 23 cases are under investigation 1 case from a returned overseas traveller. 271 (6) cases from unknown/ community transmission 9 (+2) people are currently in hospital 14 people have recovered overnight, 1789 recovered in total. 20 (0) deaths in total. There are 288 (57) active cases of coronavirus currently present in Victoria. 792,000 (16,000) tests have been completed so far in Victoria. Our local council areas again show NO change overnight. Shire/Council break down of active cases, and diagnosis of last active case. Active cases. (31/5/20) The health department is now reporting active cases in each council area, this may not be where the person resides, or where they acquired the infection ___________________ New Cases have been linked today to - 3 cases Brimbank family cluster (9) - 1 case to the North Melbourne family cluster (22) - 3 cases to Stamford plaza outbreak (23) - 3 cases to a Truganina family outbreak (5) a suburb north of Laverton. - 1 case to Wollert family Cluster (total 5) - 3 new cases to Patterson Lakes/Lysterfield cluster (total 4) Other cases include a healthcare worker at The Melbourne Clinic (private psychiatric hospital, a worker at Red Cross processing facility, ___________________ Another rise in case numbers today, But lets discuss stress today as this pandemic has gone on for 5 months now and enough has been said about what we need to do. How we can reduce stress in our lives, which will then improve the quality of our life? I am sure most of you know this, but often lack the motivation to make change. We are the ones that have to make the change, as nothing just happens, time will not magically appear for us. Balance is what keeps our lives more fulfilled and positive. We cannot devote too much time to work, running after everyone else, or even sports without reducing the quality of our life. Sure we are coping, but if we make a few changes, life would even be better. One of the biggest deficits in our life is scheduling time for ourselves. Doing something we really enjoy for 3 hours per week is so important. We can really look forward to this time, when we are busy with other things. It can be 3 hours in a block or even split up. It can be a hobby, sport, exercise, even meeting you with friends. Give it a try for a few weeks your life will be better because of it. 02.01.2022 Wednesday 8/4/20 Day 74 of the COVID-19 pandemic. The numbers in brackets are change from yesterday ... 1212 cases of coronavirus have been diagnosed in Victoria since January 25. 21 (-12) more than yesterday 102 (+8) cases from community transmission since the outbreak began 45 (-2) people are currently in hospital 736 (+50) people have recovered 12 (+1) deaths in total. A person in their 80s passed away overnight. Net number of actual cases has decreased overnight as more recover than were diagnosed, there are 29 less active cases today compared with yesterday . There are 476 active cases of coronavirus are currently present in Victoria. 60,000 (+2000) tests have been done. Cases of coronavirus in nearby council areas. No change overnight. Bass coast 2 Baw Baw 5 Latrobe 6 S Gippsland 4 __________________ Keep up the great work everyone, we are slowly getting there. The number of active cases are slowly going down each day, below 500 now! A little concern is that of the slow but steady rise of community cases (not overseas travel cases) they would have acquired the virus 1-2 weeks ago, so we need to continue to stay safe and wash those hands...all the time. Use lots of moisturizer as well, my hands are very sensitive by the end of each day. And keep more than 1.5 metres away from everyone who doesnt live in the same house as you. It is not hard. It can be very quiet being in social isolation, here are some ideas on how we can make the most of it. - playing music in the background - having a routine: start the day with a shower and make the bed, as a start. - Have a achievable list of tasks to do each day, write them down, to remind you if you get sidetracked, and once you ticked them all off, a sense of achievement. Usually only need 2 or 3 things to do each day. - One part of the day devoted to exercise or being active - Some time for planning - new type of exercise, recipes, hobby, read a book. - Some time off electronic devices. - Set bedtimes and wake up times, feeling tired due to poor sleep patterns is not good for you. - Contact friends or family - Do something you have always wanted to do, or didnt have the time to. Health tip of the day - have a regular bedtime, and wake up time, set alarms if you need to.
02.01.2022 Thinking of our friends in WA This footage shows why it's not a good idea to drive through a bushfire
02.01.2022 Its pretty sad when people have to steal from community volunteers
02.01.2022 This afternoon at about 2.45 pm Mirboo North Rescue was called to support Hallston brigade to a single vehicle crash in wet conditions on the Grandridge rd . The occupant was cut free by the Brigade and transported by road to hospital . Allambee Brigade , Police and Ambulance Victoria were also in attendance. Police are investigating the cause of the crash .
01.01.2022 While the Easter Bunny may have exemptions to travel this weekend, you do not. There are only four reasons to leave home this weekend - for food and supplies, ...exercise, for medical care and other compassionate reasons, or to work or study. Outside of these reasons, you must stay home. We understand that this is hard for everyone, but no Easter holiday is worth a life. We do not want to see all of our hard work go to waste, so we urge all Victorians to please stay home. A reminder that tomorrow is Good Friday, a public holiday. Most major chain stores (such as Coles, Woolworths and Bunnings) will be closed. Only some small stores will be open. Please check store opening times before making that trip to the supermarket or pharmacy. While some of us cannot physically be with our loved ones this Easter weekend, it is still important to stay socially connected by checking in with each other via social media, a phone call or a text message. Happy Easter to all and stay safe. #WeWorkAsOne
