25.01.2022 Silly me... Was tempted to plant a small amount of beautiful Purple Stripe garlic found in a local supermarket this season, and just look at this garlic mess!! Lesson: only purchase garlic from a known grower. Supermarket garlic for kitchen use.... Good thing my experiment was only 3 metres. Other 697m look great...phew!!

24.01.2022 Frankie’s all packed up and ready to go to Garlic Festival....

24.01.2022 Garlic planting finished at last! Time to wash the overalls, and a glass of something cold.

24.01.2022 So excited about our garlic crop this year. It’s been cold and v wet, but the weed gunnel seems to have worked a treat! Differences from previous years: * beds formed-up higher... * soil prepared earlier with green manure crop * black weed gunnel warming soil with odd sunny day. * radically less weeding Commenced spraying fortnightly to contain rust. Three-weekly organic nutrients. Eight weeks till first harvest!!

21.01.2022 Luck us to be selected in this study group of local farms thanks to Bass Coast Landcare!!

21.01.2022 So looking forward to Graze and Grain at Starward, Port Melbourne again this Saturday! An imaginative collaboration between Starward Whiskey and Farmers Daughters. Yummy food cooked over the campfire, fab whiskey, wine and beer, and Gippsland produce!! What more could one ask for? Sunshine...maybe??

20.01.2022 Italian white garlic harvest done and dusted!! Huge thanks to bro, Rohan, and Merril for getting dirty with us. These garlic are seriously large.

19.01.2022 David Jones has been on the board of the AGIA since 2018. In 2011, David and his wife Kirsten began growing garlic at Mirboo farm in South Gippsland, Victoria.... In 2017, David co-founded the incredibly successful Meeniyan Garlic Festival. Each month the AGIA board share their garlic growing reports with AGIA members in the minutes of their meeting, but this month David shares his 'How's your Crop' status report with you on facebook. 18.01.2022 Harvest- time started for us this week with our Monaro Purples now drying on the verandah. After a massive 100 mm rain in a week, and a cold spell, decided we better get our skates on! Who wouldn’t love South Gippsland weather? But grows fab garlic! Massive thanks to our Canadian "friends and relations" who helped out Monday.

18.01.2022 Garlic patch #1 up and loving this winter sunshine!

17.01.2022 Garlic cloves left in a crate to dry after a good soak in Nutri-tech Root & Shoot. Quote from packaging: Improved root growth. 3 days without soil?!! Impressive!!... And you’ve gotta love that product name.

16.01.2022 There’s never any doubt who owns the spring garlic... or any other garlic for that matter! Huge thanks to my bro, Rohan, for helping prep 40kg spring garlic for Alejandro at Farmers Daughters!

14.01.2022 Planting time between rain and showers. Huge thanks again to our knowledgeable and ever-optimistic friend, Joe Tumino, with his suite of tractors and box of bits. An answer for nearly every problem, .... and we’ve had a few!!

13.01.2022 Alice and the garlic supervisor settling those cloves into their beds!

10.01.2022 Garlic seems v early for us this year. Bulbs quite plump, but not ready for harvest yet. Bulbing is well underway, but not advanced enough from our cross-section. Necks too thick atm too.... Scapes well and truly popping up...yummy!!

07.01.2022 So happy to be involved with this fabulous new collaborative event , Farmers Daughters and Starward Whiskey, celebrating Gippsland produce. Great food, lovely wine and lotsa great chats by the open fire. Can’t think of a better way to spend a winter’s afternoon in Port Melb!

05.01.2022 Garlic still growing well despite wettest paddocks in many years!

03.01.2022 Cattle social distancing yesterday. Things really have got weird!!

03.01.2022 Green garlic, the immature garlic bulb, also known as fresh garlic or wet garlic. Milder and lighter than cured garlic, it has a nutty/ oniony flavour. Eat fresh or cooked as a substitute for spring onions, scallions or leeks.... No need to peel, just wash and finely slice or sauté in oil or butter. Fabulous in risotto, salad or pizza. Roasting: trim tips of leaves, slice bulb lengthwise in half, drizzle with oil and roast for about 30 mins. Green garlic available in The Meeniyan Store this long weekend.

03.01.2022 Mirboo Farm on the market!!

02.01.2022 Garlic harvest finished at last! David in need of a shower and a beer, but it’s only midday!
