24.01.2022 Coronavirus Update Miriam Vale State School Thursday 19th March 2020 As a school, we have received almost daily updates from the Director General of Education Q...ueensland around the course of action we should be taking to minimise the risk to our staff and students. To date, these changes have been minor and have had very little impact on the day to day running of the School. The update from Prime Minister Morrison yesterday has triggered some changes that will take place for us as a School over the coming days. Cross Country- I came to work this morning with a contingency plan to enable us to continue with the Cross Country after some helpful advice from members of our P&C. Unfortunately, with the updates I have since read, we will have to postpone our Cross Country until next term at the earliest. As all Queensland School Sport is postponed for the foreseeable future, this has no impact on our representative athletes. It does however, have a huge impact on the social engagement and enjoyment that our community gains from events like this. My background is as a HPE teacher and I love sport. Please know that I don’t make this decision lightly. Full School Parades- From today, all full School parades will be cancelled until the restrictions on social distancing and social gatherings are lifted. Students will still be acknowledged with Student of the Week awards in their classrooms each Monday, however parents will not be able to attend these presentations. School Closures- We continue to make our decision around School closure based on the advice of the Chief Health Minister of Queensland. Currently, the advice is to remain open and conduct our classes as usual. Of course, as parents you have the ultimate decision making power around if your child will attend School. While we remain open, we will not be following up on attendance for families who choose to keep their children home. If you are making this decision, can you please contact the office and ask to speak to me so that I can pass on information about continuity of learning for your child. Student Illness- If your child is ill or showing symptoms of illness, can you please keep them at home until all symptoms have cleared. Curriculum Support for absent students- From this afternoon, a range of teaching and learning resources will be made available on the Education Queensland website that will allow students to continue learning while at home. We understand that not every household has a computer, or access to the internet and will work with our families to best support the continuation of your child’s learning should you choose to keep them home from School, or should the School close. I will send home a letter tomorrow outlining how to access these materials. Social distancing measures from Monday 23rd March 2020- From Monday, can I ask that our parents and carers only come into the School for essential reasons. Essential reasons would be: to make payments at the office, to sign a child in and out from Kindergarten, collect a child during School hours for an appointment. I ask that we drop off our children and say goodbye to them off the School grounds. Prep students will be released from the classroom and can meet you at the side gate on Claude Wharton Drive. These precautions are to limit the exposure of our students. If you need to contact a staff member, can I ask that you please email them or contact the main office on 4974 6333 to organise a time to speak on the phone. I have included a list of staff contact email addresses to this letter. Report Cards and Parent Teacher Interviews- Report cards will go home as usual on Friday of week 10. At this stage, Parent Teacher Interviews have been postponed until later in Term 2. Camps and Excursions- Based on direction from Education Queensland, consultation with our parent body and discussion at the P&C meeting today, we have decided to postpone both Year 5/6 Brisbane Camp and Year 7/8 Southern Camp. At this stage, we will look to run Year 5/6 Camp in Term 4, and Southern Camp in 2021. We will be in contact shortly about the next steps to do with the camps, refunds and holding deposits. School and Social Sports- School organised sports have been postponed or cancelled. This includes Active After School Sport, Netball training on Monday afternoons and all inter school sport activities. Testing Emergency Contact emails- This is an ever changing situation with daily updates. This letter will be emailed home today using our newsletter mailing list. If you do not receive it by email, can you please contact the office and ask to have your details updated. This email home is a test of our emergency contact procedures and we would appreciate hearing back from anyone who receives this letter from their children, but does not receive a copy by email. Thank you for your continued support through this challenging and ever changing time. Hayden Ryan Principal Miriam Vale State School

16.01.2022 It was great to have the Dunga Derby by Rally for a Cause call in today for a burger. We hope you had a great day and are relaxing now on your first night on the road! Thanks so much to our small band of helpers and Mr Realf who was a champion on the BBQ, along with a Dunga Derby helper. We appreciate you!

16.01.2022 We had a massive day last week at the Miriam Vale Hotel Woodchop & Christmas Fair! Thanks to everybody who contributed to make the day a success, not least the parents and members of our school community who volunteered their time on the P&C BBQ stall. A tremendous thanks must also go to the Miriam Vale Woodchop Committee who have generously donated $1500 to our school for the benefit of our students!

05.01.2022 Please keep an eye out for the information being sent home with your student today.

02.01.2022 Calling all parents - we need you! The Miriam Vale Woodchop is THIS WEEKEND & we are seeking helpers in the time slots below to operate BBQ, prep burgers and take orders (handle the money). This is our only major fundraiser this year. Please let us know if you can help out!

01.01.2022 This year, we feel our Mums need a little something special, so the Miriam Vale P&C is holding a Mother’s Day stall! It will be held on Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th May, during first break on both days. We have a gorgeous selection of affordable gifts that we think you will love. Please see the attached flyer & photos for more information. Special thanks also to Cindy Peterson for kindly donating handmade gifts to our stall.
