22.01.2022 Wish you were here Miss Porter's House - in Newcastle West for some #heritageathome. We're in full bloom and Spring floral colours in NSW, but we were also big on colour back in the swinging 60s. Miss Porter's House has a large collection of orange items- a favourite colour of the Porter sisters? Orange was fashionable in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Remember orange benchtops and vinyl chairs? I'm sure we or our family members still have orange homewares stashed away waiting for their big comeback. #MissPortersHouse. Our doors are not open yet, but we're working behind the scenes to prepare for visitors very soon. In the meantime you can find out more at https://bit.ly/2ZW7FoV

18.01.2022 This postcard is part of the Miss Porter's House - National Trust of Australia NSW collection. From #Newcastle circa 1919 when the community was in the grips of... the #SpanishFlu (pneumonic influenza). Theatres, businesses and schools were closed. No mask no ticket was the policy on public transport, and soup kitchens were set up by women. A century ago, this #pandemic claimed the life of Herbert Porter, the 41-year-old father of eight-year-old Ella and Hazel, age five leaving his wife Florence a widow with two young children and no income. Florence had the house, but until the girls started working, the family was financially reliant on Herbert’s legacy of under 300, an inheritance from his parents which became available in 1920, and a very small amount left by Florence’s mother in 1927. #InLovingMemory #HeritageAtHome See more

13.01.2022 Calling all Event Organisers, Exhibition Curators, Builders, Landscape Gardeners & Authors - let's do something positive with 2020:

12.01.2022 Every young girl dreams of owning a pair of ruby red heels after watching The Wizard of Oz; one of the most watched movies in history. Ella Porter wore this ex...quisite pair of velvet red heels in 1938 when she was bridesmaid to her school friend, Essie Morton, teaming them with this gold embossed brocade bridesmaid's dress, red velvet sash and Victorian bonnet. Ella was later asked by Essie to be godmother to her daughter Marcia, who donated the dress back to Miss Porter's House - National Trust of Australia NSW in 2015. Come and view it, along with many other items worn by the Porters as soon as we reopen Miss Porters House to the public post-COVID. #75TrustStories See more

05.01.2022 In the interests of the health of the community and our volunteers, Miss Porter's House - National Trust of Australia NSW remains closed until further notice.

05.01.2022 Miss Porter's House #75TrustStories began in 1909 as a distinctive Edwardian home, built in a light industrial area for Herbert and Florence Porter. Today it is a rare example of a highly intact residential property, continuously occupied by one family, until 1997 when it was left to the National Trust. Since then, the property's incredible army of volunteers have maintained the building and more than 5,000 Porter family objects that form the collection in the house. Take our... quiz and see how many of these vintage household items you can identify, then when the property re-opens, visit the house museum to explore the full collection: https://qz.app.do/can-you-identify-these-vintage-household-
