24.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 9; Throwback to this unforgettable experience when I was lucky enough to spot this sea turtle while snorkeling off the beautiful coast of Hawaii I was so mesmerized that we ended up swimming underwater in synchrony for nearly 3 minutes. When I eventually came up for air I was completely out of breath but felt absolutely incredible. Theres nothing more heartwarming than seeing wildlife thriving in their natural habitat ... When I travel I get swept up in the ecotourism possibilities. The important thing is to be responsible with our choices. Be sure to research and make sure the natural environment ISNT being exploited for your entertainment. I strongly believe ecotourism should have no lasting impact (or even better) - a positive impact on the destination youve visited Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020

22.01.2022 Aboriginal Australian Artwork Inspired Makeup Looks The art that Aboriginal Australians create tell a story, and has done since the beginnings of our country. We live on stolen land, and we need to always acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we live on. I live on Bidjigal land. ... @ochredawn , a brand I have been supporting during my @miss_earth_australia journey, created these incredible face masks, designed by Aboriginal Australian artists @elizabethclosearts (Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara) & @sasha.hill.arts (Yamatji, Noongar) Not only do all royalties of each mask go to the artist, but for every mask purchased, Ochre Dawn donates a mask to a front-line worker! Giving back to the community in the best way! I loved the colours of these masks so I had to create two looks inspired by them! which one is your favourite? Ps um, can the Aboriginal flag emoji hurry up and get approved? 22.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 39 Why not take a spare reusable bag with you when you go for a walk? Pick up litter as you go - even if you just grab 3 pieces (honestly though, once you start it’s hard to stop - seeing the change is really satisfying) Some people might not understand why you choose to clean up someone else’s mess but hopefully it inspires them to reconsider their own actions or even follow along.... I was lucky enough to see this in action at one of our Miss Earth Australia beach cleanups in 2019 - a small boy saw myself and fellow Aussie earth queens Monique and Susanna picking up litter near and he then started running around bringing us the pieces he could find. It was so heartwarming and is exactly what we hope to see and achieve as eco angels. Brittany Dickson Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarthAustralia #MissEarth2020

22.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 11 Regeneration for Generations. Have you ever considered how washing your clothes may affect the environment? How much plastic packaging goes into your typical detergent bottle and what companies are doing to address their impact? I hadnt until id started using Happi Earth around a year ago!... They have clear a clear goal and purpose. Theyre working towards restoring and replanting VITAL ecosystems around the world. Theyre believers in the circular economy and aim to reduce, reuse and regenerate rather than take, make and dispose Once you run out of your laundry liquid (which lasts forever mind you) you can return the pouch for refilling! And for each purchase - they plant a mangrove tree which removes 5x the amount of carbon from the atmosphere than a regular tree, provides habitat support to wildlife, and increases air quality by filtering pollutants from the air we breathe Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020

21.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 1 After the whirlwind weekend of being announced Miss Earth Australia, I felt like I needed to make it a priority to do something good for the environment. Another @returnandearnnsw visit -... Another 200 alumnium cans, plastic, and glass bottles recycled Not only that, but thanks to spotting these great signs, I donated the funds I earned to WWFs #cansforkoalas - a 200 container contribution will help prepare a koala to be released back into the wild - how cool is that! Feels great to be back at it! Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of the Australia #MissEarth2020 #MissEarthAustralia

18.01.2022 As the dust settles... our Eco Queen would love to share this inspiring message of gratitude and appreciation to everyone who supported Team Miss Earth Australia ----- This years one of a kind virtual pageant came to an end yesterday. When the world stood still, my earth sisters and I didn’t. We all contributed to our local communities in different ways and raised global awareness about important environmental issues.... I was a little heartbroken I didn’t make the top 20 out of 84 incredible women from around the globe - my team and I worked so hard and gave everything we had. However, we respect the judges decision and I can confidently say that my dedication to the cause does not end here, the essence of Miss Earth will forever be in my heart. I am so humbled that I was recognised by Carousel and Jewel Beauty Strong for my commitment to the environment and was awarded the title of Miss Earth 2020 Eco Angel. This means more to me than having an amazing pasarela walk or the flashiest production. I intend to take full advantage of this incredible opportunity to really inspire others, make a difference, follow in the footsteps of environmental greats and leave my mark on the earth Now I send my love, best wishes and heartfelt congratulations to all of this years delegates, especially our new queen and her elemental court; Miss Earth - USA Lindsey Coffey Miss Earth Air - Venezuela Stephany Zreik Miss Earth Water - Phillipines Roxanne Baeyens Miss Earth Fire - Denmark Michala Rubinstein Thank you all!!! #MissEarth #MissEarthAustralia

17.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 10; This year the #walk4braincancer is going virtual!! (this was HD but having issues getting the upload to stay that way) As with environmental issues, brain cancer doesnt stop during a pandemic. Im glad both Miss Earth and Cure Brain Cancer have decided to push on with their annual events through these challenging times. ... Whilst a little different, the switch does have its benefits; Less travel means a reduced carbon footprint, reduced waste in the form of merchandising and consumables at events and we can reach a much larger global audience by covering more of the content online!! This will be my 4th year participating in the walk. Im so grateful that my friends and family have supported me in raising over $15000 for the Foundation in this time. The walk was a key factor when coping with my own shock diagnosis in 2017. I was able to turn my weakness into my superpower and used my story to raise money for world-class brain cancer research, advocacy and awareness. The walk is being held on the 27th of September this year so please either donate or join Team Miss Earth Australia for free at the link in my comments #walk4braincancer #curebraincancer #missearth2020 #missearthaustralia2020 See more

17.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 7 Yes, I already posted about how returning drink containers with @returnandearnnsw can contribute to charities such as WWFs #cansforkoalas - However I also thought Id delve a little bit deeper into what ACTUALLY happens to the containers once theyre dropped off. The program ensures only high quality recyclable material with low levels of contamination enters the recycling stream.... More than half of the plastic returned and over 90% of the glass is used to manufacture new containers here in Australia. Currently, the rest is exported for reuse overseas. The goal of Return and Earn is to take steps towards a more circular economy. Successful programs like this initiate important conversations about accountability. Is your favourite drink supplier a part of the program? If not, why? What percentage of their containers are made from recycled materials and can it be higher? Do we have the ability to process more product domestically? Why is Australia still exporting aluminium overseas to be recycled rather than doing it at home? What are your thoughts on commoditising waste!? Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020 #MissEarthAustralia2020

15.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 8; Dreaming With the world the way it is right now its easy to become mentally and emotionally overwhelmed - its like were constantly expected to be on Whether sneakily checking the work laptop before going to bed, brainstorming content for your socials or just endlessly scrolling. In many ways tech has led to a disconnect with nature.... Its important to take a moment to step back and reset. The natural world gives us the perfect opportunity to do this. An increasing amount of scientific research supports that getting outdoors (particularly in less urban environments) is great for our mental health. I know I feel most at home at the beach - I often imagine someday living in a cute ecofriendly hippie van, chasing the surf, sand and sunshine wheres your happy place? 12.01.2022 One of the contributions we can take part in to help rebuild the environment is to impart awareness and educate the youth on the love for Mother Earth. In their young minds, we can start opening their beliefs that this is necessary for a better future. Miss Earth Australia is proud to be a platform that will mold our future generations to start early in this advocacy whether they hold the crown or not. That they can be queens in their own ways and by starting small. #MissEarthAustralia #MissEarth #MEACares

11.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 35 Say hello to my beautiful birdy - Greeny She’s an alexandrine parrot, we took her in after she was seen looking a bit lost in the treetops saying ‘hello’ to anyone within earshot. She was obviously an escaped pet, I tried my best to find her owners but no one claimed her.... She quickly became a part of my family. Birds have the most unique personalities, are incredibly intelligent and know how to find their way straight to your heart. Plus she LOVES listening to me sing even when no one else does. I prefer animals to be wild, but once they have known captivity they become our responsibility to love and care for. I’m so grateful she came into my life and we could provide her a home Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020 #MissEarthAustralia

10.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 40; Fire is one of the Earths most powerful elements. It can provide a source of light and warmth, but we all know it can quickly become destructive and dangerous if we are unable to control it. In Australia, our landscapes are particularly devastated by bushfires. In the 2019-2020 fire season more than a billion animals, millions of hectares of habitat and homes were lost. This was devastating, but us Aussies (aswell as friends from around the world) poured our... hearts and souls into bouncing back and doing our best to prevent this happening again. On the other hand it’s important to remember Mother Earth works in mysterious ways - and fire can also fuel new life. Many native eucalypts have seeds that require fire to sprout and some species even flower more abundantly following fire. Nature evolves and adapts to overcome challenges but it is still our responsibility to work to protect our environment and avoid disasters such as these where we have power to act. So why am I talking fire? My sister queens, Monique and Susanna were both part of the Miss Earth ‘fire groups’ in 2018 and 2019 when they competed in the Philippines. This year we were split by region, but as a powerful woman with a lot of resilience, I decided I’d brand myself part of the fire group too. We celebrated this by all wearing red in our recent cover shoot for Star Central magazine - I’m happy to finally share some of the shots Brittany Dickson Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth #MissEarthAustralia

10.01.2022 Australia had one of the best places in the world for the once-in-a-lifetime super blue blood moon event and the west coast of Australia was one of the best seats to get a clear view. When you look at the Moon on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, you are seeing the Sunrise and Sunset of the Earth lighting up the Moon. The red appearance is caused by the light filtering and bending properties of our atmosphere. Check out about the wonders of this gift by Mother Nature in the link below: (website not owned by Miss Earth Australia)

08.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 6 Recently @Miss Earth Crown requested I choose an item that describes my advocacy and how its a part of my eco angel story. I didnt know if I should pick something really significant like my bachelors degree or something I use in the field like one of my animal identification books. I ended up deciding on something fun which was these really cute coasters I bought recently. They feature 4 iconic native animals; the quokka, kangaroo, wombat and koala. ... I chose them because I am all about wildlife conservation. Biodiversity loss is one of the biggest environmental issues we need to address - it provides ecological life support, impacts our global economy and has immeasurable cultural significance across the world. Every small action adds up, Id hate for our animals to disappear from the wild and JUST become something we find printed on decorative coasters. I am proud to live and breathe my advocacy and know we have the ability to better support these creatures future Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020 #MissEarthAustralia2020

07.01.2022 The message of support and appreciation for our Earth Queen keeps on pouring in... 03.01.2022 We cant get over the Miss Earth 2020 fever... As a gratitude and appreciation to all who love our Miss Earth 2020 EcoAngel, we will be sharing to everyone all of our video submission to the recently concluded Miss Earth 2020 Virtual Pageant First, we start with our EcoAngel video...... The story behind these angel costume circles around sustainability and recycling... Brittany is very keen with the instruction that she wants her angel costume to be sustainable and made of recycled materials Our very talented up and coming Filo Australian Designer, Armando Crisostomo, created this angel masterpiece made from carton cutouts, left over materials from his workshop and waste products from a big textile store in Sydney The end result is just mesmerising - amplfying the beauty of our Eco Angel making her stand out amongst everyone else While shooting this video in the Western Sydney Parklands, all who passed by could not help but to adore our Brittany, with compliments on her beauty like a true angel amongst us... 02.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 38 As an eco angel, before I throw anything away I always stop to think ‘can I reuse or recycle this?’ With the internet and a wealth of resources at our fingertips there’s no excuse to improperly dispose of waste.... I wear contact lenses as I’m not a good candidate for lasik surgery and I can’t always wear my glasses. Just a quick google search gives a pretty good solution! The Terracycle and Bausche and Lombe recycling Programme allows those who wear contacts to collect their used lenses + packaging to then be broken down and remolded into things like garden beds, park benches and even playground equipment! ps I featured Terracycle in my eco video! You can find the link in my IG bio or on the Miss Earth YouTube if you want to learn more about this recycling powerhouse! 01.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 3 Ive had to run a lot of errands to prepare for my live interviews week and the competition ahead. Having water handy has been a necessity! In recent years plenty of people have promoted great alternatives to disposable plastic straws; usually paper, metal or bamboo (Ive even seen pasta used!) For me - Ive found silicone straws are most convenient! ... Theyre safe if you accidentally chew and for people with disabilities or teeth sensitivity. Theyre flexible so you can pop them into any bottle without worrying if theyll fit. PLUS they are dishwasher safe or if you dont have one, wash pretty easily with a long brush in soapy water. Such a simple option to have with you on the go thats great for our earth Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020

01.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 5 Volunteering is a great way to contribute to the protection of our environment. My local bush regeneration group meets once a month to maintain and care for the threatened ecological community in our area which is known as Cumberland Plain Woodland - this is a unique ecosystem that is under threat due to land clearing, invasion by exotic plants, drought and increased nutrient loading associated with fertiliser runoff from gardens or agricultural land.... Simply spending a few hours on the weekend joining together with likeminded individuals, hand clearing weeds, picking up stray litter, replanting native vegetation and watering dry soils is enough action to make a difference and give these valuable and ecologically significant areas a better chance at survival Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020 #MissEarthAustralia2020

01.01.2022 Eco Photo Day 4 Frogs are amongst the most endangered animals on the planet. Australia has over 240 species - most of which are unique to our country. Whilst some species are doing well, nearly half of frogs across the world are threatened with extinction due to habitat loss, climate change, disease, pollution and predation.... Credit to my mum for buying this interesting looking chocolate frog - I looked into the producer and they actually support the Australian Museums FrogID app which encourages the community to contribute to science by entering their own species sighting data. The app helps track the invasive cane toad, better understand the distribution of native frogs and see how these animals are responding to our ever changing environment. Its a great example of how technology and our dollars can be used to bring about valuable environmental research! Brittany Dickson | Eco Angel of Australia #MissEarth2020
