25.01.2022 At long last I'm here in Mexico City! And today had the privilege to visit the Frida Kahlo Museum.

24.01.2022 A magical day in Mitla, Oaxaca. I had the privilege to be invited to visit a families looming workshop. It was fascinating watching them spool the cotton and operate the looms to create stunning bed covers and blankets. The quality of the Mexican cotton is divine. I have in store now some of these amazing textiles.

19.01.2022 A sneaky peek at some of the goodies I'll be bringing back with me! All handmade, the skills of the artisans in Mexico is amazing.

18.01.2022 Mexican street art

18.01.2022 Mexican culture celebrate the lives of their lost loved ones, rather than mourn them. The sugar skulls are abundant during their Dia De Los Muertos festival (Day of the Dead). The skull symbolises death, but in a positive way. Mexican culture belief is that death is not the final stage. Burning candles inside the skulls is a sign of remembrance. The name sugar skull comes from the authentic sugar skulls that are made from clay molded sugar, decorated with colourful feathers,... beads and icing. We have hand painted ceramic skulls, tin magnets and black clay skulls available in store and online www.missfrida.com.au

17.01.2022 Who's in Eumundi today for the Eumundi Markets? Make sure you come out to the street and check out Miss Frida! We are across from the park, between Affagato Gelato and Coffee and the pub.

14.01.2022 Frida fever this week is focussed on Frida's painting titled "Self Portrait dedicated to Dr Eloesser 1940". This famous self portrait has many interesting layers. It was painted by Frida as a thank you gift to Dr Eloesser after he treated her in San Fransisco from an infection in her right hand. The dedication inscribed on the banderole at the bottom reads: "I painted my portrait in the year 1940 for Doctor Leo Eloesser, my doctor and my best friend. With all my love. Frida ...Kahlo." The earrings she is wearing were a gift from Pablo Picasso whom she met while in Paris. The hand on the banderole as well as on the earrings, makes reference at what is called in Mexico "milagros". Milagros are pieces made of wax or ivory shaped in the form of the part of the human body that the person wants to be healed, and left on the altar of the Saint they pray to. We have lots of interesting items on our website www.missfrida.com.au that feature this portrait.
