22.01.2022 Hi lovely people of mission beach. I just recieved a message from a friend that they recieve a message from someone asking who admin is. So let me introduce myself. My name is Dee Dean i have lived in mission beach on & off for over 10 years, yes like all of us we always come back to this amazing place. I couldnt think of a better place to raise my little girl Isobel. Some may know me some may not. Im a little bit of introverted & dont socialize much these day. I love m...ission beach due to what we have still, untouched, we are only a few places thats where the rainforest meets the reef, where we are lucky enough to have cassowarys & many other wildlife & eco system. I have always tried to be mindful of our environment & since having Isobel i feel we need to protect what we have so they can grow up with such beauty & naturally environment. I am doing this for our town & our environment as a community & this is a community project, this is a group effort & without any ego or politics, just to make mission beach plastic free. 22.01.2022 Hi everyone We have some exciting news! We The Rainforest School, Mission Beach have taken over the Mission Beach Boomerang Bags project. We would like to thank Dee for starting this beautiful project a few years ago. Sonia took over after Dee and has now kindly passed on the fabrics to us. ... We would like to start hosting sewing bees at our school. We will have coffee, tea, a space to create and big smiles. We can’t do this without you, so please let us know if you would like to be involved. We’re looking for sewers (BYO machine), cutters, screen printers and ironers. Once we have a group of volunteers, we will be able to schedule the sewing bees. Boomerang Bags is about making bags, diverting waste, starting conversations, connecting with each other, fostering sustainable behaviour, and having fun! Volunteers collect and upcycle unwanted material, diverting thousands of kilograms of waste from landfill, and create a platform where communities can connect, socialise, learn new skills and contribute positively to the local community. The bags are then made available to local communities at markets, events and festivals, libraries, schools and businesses to provide sustainable alternatives to plastic, creating conversations about the importance of re-use, caring for our planet and each other and fostering sustainable behaviour. 21.01.2022 Here are the 2020 dates for our Boomerang Bags Sewing Bees What do we do? We get together to make funky bags from donated fabric. These bags are the perfect feel-good shopping accessory, being made by up-cycled materials. They also are the perfect custom made Mission Beach gift. Some of them have already made their way to many corners of the globe! We meet at The Rainforest School, Mission Beach in a comfortable air-conditioned space, have coffee/tea and fabric, just brin...g your sewing gear. Can't sew? Not a problem! We also need people that can iron, cut or screen print labels. Everyone is welcome at this monthly community event and we are looking forward to seeing you!
20.01.2022 We have received the new screen printing frame, yay! We have a nice group of interested people, so we are all good to go. Our first sewing bee will be on a weekend at The Rainforest School. We will set a date very soon and let you know. 19.01.2022 Another 4 new bags!! Slowly but steadily we are growing! We will host a monthly sewing bee every 4th Saturday of the month and we welcome everyone who can help ironing, sewing, cutting and screen printing. It's a fun social get together with a huge satisfaction when a bag is finished!... Help spread the word Boomerang Bags is an initiative where communities turn donated fabric into funky bags. 11.01.2022 Thamk you to those who came yesterday to our info day. I understand we all have busy lives & with this project you can do it at your own pace. If you are wanting to make the bags at home, im only happy to send you the info to do so. We really need to get this started if we all want plastic free in Mission Beach, so please message me with details. We will be running a sewing workshop very soon , so those can come along

09.01.2022 Hi all sorry for no contact for a while, mumma & toddler was a bit ill for a week. I had run out of material to make the bags, so today i went to tully op shopping for material, i had a little luck but not much. As this us a non profit group, as we have just started out we have very little resources & ive had to buy things out of my pocket, as i want to get this community project running. So i ask of all of you, if you have old curtins, clothes, material, large tshirts, jeans from a size 16 up or large L & XL mens jeans, sheets & pillow cases, anything that we can make bags from, please donote. Please pm to pick up or viv from same same but different is a drop of point for me to pick up. Please spread the word. Also im after doolies to make special bags to sell & raise funds. Thanks everyone who has helped so far.
06.01.2022 Hi everyone, im just starting this off & hope to get as many helpers as possible to get this off the ground.With the support of the founders of boomerang bags i want to get this started in our community. I will be posting an information day/night date yet to be decided with the information to start & help build this with our community. Any donates of recyleable materials would be great.

05.01.2022 All Boomerang Bags have now been sold Don't despair though, we will have more available soon after our next sewing bee! We sell the bags for $5 each and proceeds go to running costs of the project, like screen printing paint

04.01.2022 Hi, thank you for all your likes & those who have messaged me with support, that is what i love about our community here in Missione Beach, over the weekend i will have more time to let people know how you can help & take part a little more in detail. What i do need is volunteers to help with cutting patterns, material, sewing, ironing, screen printing our logo & donations of material, sewing thread . I will be setting up a funding page for those who do not have the time & want to support us you can donate money to help us with supplies to keep us going.
