25.01.2022 @Missionbeachlyfe We all know it's been a crazy year with plenty of time left on the clock, we have been very lucky up here in FNQ but many businesses are doing it tough. At Wildcare we haven't stopped even during the restricted movements that were placed upon us and our marine strandings efforts have required time, effort, care, commitment that all comes at a cost. A couple of very talented and community minded people were brave enough to launch their new business venture t...o give our community a retail outlet that takes Mission Beach to a new level. Mission Beach Lyfe has gone even a step further in setting up a reef rack where quality used clothing items are donated and proceeds are donated to support Marine rescues and care on the Cassowary Coast. Amanda & Rosie you are amazing and have created something very special and the wildlife thank you for your support. With so many people buying online and delivery times for the coming festive season an issue what better time than to purchase some beautiful gifts locally and support this business that supports our wildlife. For those that have not visited the store next to Woolworths and Bendigo Bank at Wongaling get yourselves down there and check out their amazing apparel. Support our local businesses! Greta, Green sea turtle. Thanks for being a Wildcare Sponsor.

21.01.2022 Five calls before 9am this morning for wildlife in need. This monitor was run over usually pretty tough but did not survive sadly. Just doing some research on these wonderful creatures as they are everywhere at the moment and hopefully they eat plenty of snake eggs before we become the snake capital of the world lol. For those that are interested read some interesting facts about these guys liking the fact their forked tongues can sense venomous or no venomous snakes, male o...r female monitors and can observe a plane 3500 feet in the air. Maybe that's why they are called Monitors. (Dragon or lizard beast) Not bad! http://factsanddetails.com/asian/cat68/sub434/item2443.html

21.01.2022 Usually call these guys (Oriole) Trump but think he should be Joe!

18.01.2022 WE GOT HER! After two days of sightings and attempts to save this very large Green Sea Turtle floating offshore this morning was a massive effort by all involved to rescue her. Firstly a big thanks to Brett and Kate who just arrived in Mission to live who saw her this morning and called us, we told Brett to grab her and not let her go so he dragged her in and sat on her good job mate! The challenge was getting to the location on Lugger Bay but with a low tide and 4wd driving ...we couldn't have timed it better. Thanks to the Wildcare team that attended and now some obviously new wildlife advocates to the area. Safe for now resting and the start of her rehabilitation Carapace 112cm and well over 100kgs, big girl! One more out there that we know of so please keep a lookout and call Wildcare 0439687272, CTRC 0417441956 for a quick response.

17.01.2022 Remember me little Mylene that was orphaned on 10th September after my mum was mauled by a dog at the jetty. Well look at me now big, strong and healthy and about to go out into a bigger aviary to toughen up and make my mum proud of me. Thank you!

17.01.2022 'Primrose' who came into care on the 11th of September is growing into a big girl now! Lots more fur and personality, isn't she beautiful Wildcare 0439687272

16.01.2022 Little red flying fox that was caught on barbed wire today, we are very pleased with our techniques to remove that we have established over the years. At first thought it may not be recoverable but after carefully removing we were able to examine thoroughly at Tropical Vets Innisfail, thank you Justin for doing some Sunday work as we had to drop off some borrowed gear anyway. Much appreciated! Resting after the ordeal had some yummy food wounds cleaned and a short rehabilitation hopefully. The phone rang regularly throughout the day and thanks to the other groups, carers around the place that we passed your details on to, we couldn't get around to them all. Please care for our wildlife! Wildcare 0439687272

14.01.2022 Busy week for marine strandings with two possible turtles still out there in distress. This old girl 103cm carapace (shell) was found this morning on a sand bar north of Kurrimine Beach, thanks Carmen for reporting. Her overall condition was very good did not appear to have been floating but as you can see had all but one flipper removed and quite possibly on her way to lay eggs as her rear section was eaten out also. Strong winds and currents at present mean that any turtles suffering floaters or any other condition may appear on our coastline if sighted please call us Wildcare 0439687272, Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre 0417441956 for a quick response.

13.01.2022 Leila, May you live a long and happy life out in the deep blue sea it was a pleasure to have known you!

12.01.2022 "I'm out in the big aviary today to catch myself some bugs!"

03.01.2022 Just a long overdue update on Primrose who came into care on 11/9 and Lou (Louisa) who was rescued on 29/10. They were paired up and doing well together approx 1kg in weight and progessing nicely. Louisa know you were waiting for a photo and Anton Kruger thanks again! Wildcare 0439687272

03.01.2022 Mayday, Mayday, Mayday! There was a report made this afternoon at 1pm of a Green Sea turtle (ID Flatback Turtle) floating off Russell Island approx 30kms North East of Babinda. Latitude -17.13575 Longitude 146.13821 The vessel operators did not unfortunately have any suitable equipment on board to retrieve the turtle over a metre in length and of significant weight. We have endeavoured to make contact with Frankland Island Tours and others in the Deeral area and ask if anyon...e boating in the area tomorrow be on the lookout for this turtle that needs urgent attention as it has been floating for a long period of time. A long shot but if anyone can help please contact us 0439687272, Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre 0417441956, DES 1300130372. The fact that it took 2hrs 42mins for us to be notified for a marine strandings incident will be investigated as this is not satisfactory and assistance may have been available quicker. Hope she can be saved please share! Update: Looks like a Flatback turtle so caution needed have a large and powerful bite! See more

01.01.2022 Can't fit through there mate! After some leg repositioning shoulder manipulation and reverse gear and fence bending we are free and only one scratch, on us that is.
