25.01.2022 Are you coming back from injury, pregnancy or are new to running? Check out our new YouTube channel where we'll be uploading tips and tricks for the beginner runner and triathlete. This week is how to go from zero to 5km. https://youtu.be/Hx9N2nEv4So
25.01.2022 I'm now almost 4 months postpartum and have found that I've had to take a step back in my training and spend more time getting my foundations right. We talk about this magic 6 week mark as if once we reach this point all the stress that 9 months of baby growing and the trauma (yes trauma!) of childbirth will have resolved itself. With my own training I was back swimming, cycling and running and if you'd asked I would have said that my pelvic floor was good and I was recoveri...ng well. Fast forward to about a month ago and me accepting an offer from the fantastic team @mygcphysio to have an ultrasound to check my pelvic floor. It turned out that my pelvic floor function was actually quite bad and coupled with some very poor left hip stability meant that I was doing too much too soon. So here I am, taking a couple of steps back in order to go forward with two clinical pilates sessions per week to improve my core function and stability. I can feel the results already and can not stress enough how important it is for all new mums to get checked over by a physio specialising in postnatal exercises before returning to training. It can be hard to be patient and even harder to listen to your own advice! Thanks Kate, Sarah, Katie and all the team @mygcphysio. See you next week! #pelvicfloor #postpartum #postpartumtraining #clinicalpilates #pilates
23.01.2022 Hi my name is Suz and I am the founder of Miss Multisport. I am a wife, a mum to 2 beautiful boys Finn and Charlie, business owner, coach and a triathlete on the comeback after the most recent birth of my little Charlie, 4 months ago. I started Miss Multisport because I am passionate about getting other women into triathlon. Getting them outdoors, exercising and challenging themselves in ways they thought were not possible. Triathlon is such a fantastic sport for women to ge...t into and we need more women doing it. I want to show women that you don’t have to be super fit to do it, that you can be any age and that no matter what your circumstances in life are that you can do it. It can intimidating to turn up to a triathlon club or squad or to start training for your first triathlon on your own it almost seems to big a mountain to climb. That is why I started Miss Multisport. To build a community of women who want to do triathlon but don’t know where to start. Our specialised 2 day beginner triathlon clinics will give you the low down on what to do, what not to do, what races to do, what to wear, what to eat, what equipment you need, how much things cost, how to train and how much to train. And I promise you don’t have to wear lycra! I know what it is like to try and juggle family, work and then find time for myself to train. I want women to come along to my clinics and feel empowered. I want you to feel as though you can do it and that no matter where you’re coming from it is possible. And wow once you do your first triathlon you won’t look back, you’ll be hooked like I was when I did my first triathlon some 15 years ago. Since then I have gone onto to compete 6 Ironman races, represent New Zealand at World Championship level, become a coach and start a hugely successful triathlon squad, Tri Nation with my husband Mark. Now with Miss Multisport I want to start something just for women but especially for women who want something just for them and somewhere they can feel safe, comfortable and know they’ll be supported. If this sounds like you then sign up to one of our upcoming clinics in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You’ll be with other like minded women and it could be start of some amazing friendships and a chance to do something for you. Visit www.missmultisport.com.au for more info.
19.01.2022 Today's swim set called for some time crunching and fitting what I could into a small space of time. So 1500m of quality went something like this: 300m warm up with pull buoy 8 x build 50s (ie. Starting slow and increasing speed over the 50 to finish at max pace).... 12 x 50m dive start hard 50s with walk back recovery. 200m easy warm down. Think I need a coffee now! Tiring stuff and think I would have preferred longer and slower but I didn't have time
18.01.2022 I've been running 4-5 times per week now for the past 6 weeks except for the last week where i did NOTHING. No particular reason or excuse it just didn't happen. When this happens it can be difficult to not be hard on yourself or lament the lost sessions. But all you can do is forget it, move on and get out running the very next day. So here's me completing a 16 x 400m alternating between 5k and 10k pace this morning. These sessions are great for me as i can focus on holding my form for a short period of time. Abs on, glutes engaged x
18.01.2022 Checking out the sharks at Sea World made me think about our fears around open water swimming. Most of our training is done in the comfit of the pool with the black line guiding us where to go. Once we hit the open water we are faced with cold water temperatures, rough water, poor visibility and even lurking sea creatures. My latest blog talks about our nerves when swimming in open water and tips for overcoming them. Check it out on the website - link in bio. #openwatersw...imming #seacreatures #swimming #nervousswimmer https://missmultisport.com.au//dealing-with-the-unknown-i/ See more
18.01.2022 What Race Should You Do? With so many races out there on the calendar it can be confusing to know where to start. Some great local races in Queensland include Triathlon Pink and the Queensland Triathlon Series. Find out more about events on our latest blog. https://missmultisport.com.au//how-often-should-i-race-tr/
15.01.2022 Tip 3 for fitting in training with the kids is: RUN WITH A PRAM Our toddler Finn still loves going out in the pram and I think the key is to get them started early and keeping it regular ie. atleast once a week. Of course by early I mean once they have good head control (around 6 months). Six months also gives you time to be ready to run. Especially pushing the pram which can act like a parachute at times in the wind!... Start out with short jogs or run/walks and I recommend heading out to the walkways to begin with to avoid the jostling on and off the kerbs. Happy running x
15.01.2022 This week I'm letting you know my top 5 tips for fitting training in to your life. It can be hard getting back into shape post bub and here at 6 months pp i still feel quite a way off. At this stage it's all about consistency and trying to get a little bit done most days. So my first tip is: YOU ONLY NEED 20 MINUTES... Even with kids and a partner who works you should be able to find 20 minutes in a day to go for a run, walk or core strength at home. This might mean getting up 20 minutes before him and the kids. I know it is hard to do but once you get out the door and exercising in the peace and quiet of the morning you will find it's totally worth it. I know there always feels like there are other things we should be doing instead but your own health and well-being needs to be a priority. "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are". xx
12.01.2022 Making Training Work Around Family Sometimes we have to get creative in order to get our training done. It's so easy to put everyone else's needs ahead of our own but with a bit of thought and planning you can do it all. Now that I'm back on the Gold Coast in the middle of summer it makes it a bit harder to fit a run in with the heat. Today in order for both Mark and I to get a run in he was up early, put Charlie in the pram and ran for an hour down to Main Beach. I drove dow...n, played with Finn in the playground then met Mark and ran whilst he looked after the boys. Everyone gets to run and the boys get quality time with both of us and fun at the playground. Win win. Next time I'll be even more organised and pack snacks instead of Charlie trying to eat the pine cones
12.01.2022 Thanks @witsupcom for a fantastic brunch @noosatriathlon It was awesome to hear from two legends of triathlon @belindagranger and @emma_snowsill about the ups and downs of life post racing triathlon professionally. I especially loved Emma's observations about how she previously thought triathlon was an endurance event until she became a mum! Plus how her goal with exercise is to now walk back in the door feeling energised so that she can still be at her best for her famil...y. Both are great role models for other ladies out there and have a great perspective after having made mistakes themselves along the way #womenintriathlon #lifebalance #noosabrunch #noosatri
12.01.2022 Tip 4 for fitting in training with kids: INVEST IN EQUIPMENT An investment could be as little as $200 for a windtrainer up to $1,000+ for a treadmill or computerised indoor cycling trainer. Remember that this is an investment in YOU and you can't put a value on being able to get your training done and being the healthiest version of yourself.... Plus shop around and you'll be able to find some great repayment plans out there even interest free. Being able to save time by training at home and especially when the kids are asleep is priceless.
12.01.2022 My 2nd tip for fitting in your training is: ORGANISE AND PLAN YOUR SESSION THE NIGHT BEFORE Decide what time you are going to train, who's help you need to get it done (partner, husband, babysitter, creche) then put out your training gear so it's ready to go.... This helps with maximising your time as well as giving you less opportunity to find an excuse not to do it
11.01.2022 Calling all breastfeeding mums or any woman that has had their lumpy bits poked! Hubby just calls me over wondering what's wrong with my shirt and pokes me in the breast. Turns out that it was just my boob! With Charlie only wanting to feed from one side for the last 8 months I have two very different sized boobs so only one side fits properly into my running bra with the other side having to 'hang out' a bit. They should invent bras with two different sized cups as surely I'm not the only one with this problem?
09.01.2022 Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone We've all been there where we've thought about doing something new, something different but our fears have stopped us. If you've ever been interested in trying a triathlon or multisport event what has stopped you? Where could stepping outside of your comfort zone take you?... https://missmultisport.com.au//getting-out-of-your-comfor/
07.01.2022 Trying to find a pic of what to wear in a triathlon and instead found this flashback to 2010 and supporting the Mooloolaba Tri. Not quite helping but the point of my latest article about WHAT TO WEAR IN A TRIATHLON is that you can wear anything. So i could have raced in this wig if i wanted to. The key is that you are comfortable and of course some outfits are going to make you faster than others! Read more at https://missmultisport.com.au//what-to-wear-in-a-triathlon/
07.01.2022 Picking up the boys from the creche at the sports centre leads me to tip number 5 for training with kids: FIND A GYM/POOL WITH A CRECHE This would easily be my favourite tip as it makes it so easy to get in your swim, ride (rpm class) or run (treadmills).... An added bonus is finding one with a coffee shop on site then you can be like me today and put the kids in for a play while you have a coffee...all by yourself in the blissful peace and quiet
03.01.2022 Check this out! For those wanting to get outside their comfort zones check out this adventure race series with Maximum Adventure. If you're in Brissy the next event is coming up at Enoggera on the 25th of August. What we LOVE about these events is their novice race so that anyone can rock up and give adventure racing a go. Not only that but they offer adventure racing clinics before each race so you can learn everything you need to know to get started.... We will definitely be giving these races a go very soon! https://maxadventurerace.com.au/ MM xx
01.01.2022 LOVE this At Tri Nation Triathlon training camp and it's dominated by the girls. It's so inspiring to see all these women getting out and training towards their triathlon goals. Whether it's their 1st time at Noosa Tri, a half IM at Sunny Coast 70.3 or representing their country at World Champs.... Note that this isn't even a women's only camp!
01.01.2022 I'm only just posting this now as it took me 2 days to recover and oh what a mission! I travelled with both the boys on my own on Tuesday to my parents house in New Plymouth, New Zealand. It was always going to be a challenge and first up I have to say what lovely people you meet along the way when you clearly have your hands full juggling 2 kids! I'm not the best at asking for help but I never needed to with all the offers to carry or hold something for me. So the first pa...rt getting to Auckland went pretty smoothly and all my well made plans fell perfectly in to place But then the part i didn't plan for when i spent 90 minutes stopping a tired Finn from jumping on the baggage carousel while our bag was 1 of about 20 held up in quarantine due to spiders! That then left us with 15 minutes to get from the international to the domestic terminal and we walk out and it's pouring with rain. At this point i almost gave up but made the decision to put my head down and run the boys through the rain, baggage and all! What little champions with not a peep out of either of them and we arrived 3 minutes before boarding But then we are told the plane has left early and is in the air. I know! When do planes ever leave early! So here is me breathing hard (still quite out of shape), getting a bit teary and just wanting to sit down and give up. You can't really do that with 2 little ones in tow though can you. Ok so next breastfeed Charlie whilst the AirNZ lady (who was gorgeous and doing the best she could) rerouted us through Wellington and then on to New Plymouth. She then rushed us through security again even holding Charlie for me along the way and onto another plane bound for Wellington. With only one plane to go Finn pooing just as we started boarding the last plane and being told that i didn't have time to change it seemed like small fry. He didn't seem to care and neither did i. Not sure about the people sitting behind us on the flight who could probably smell a little something off throughout their trip. #travellingwithkids #airnz #mumlife #bewareofspiders
