12.01.2022 Are there times when you lose it with your partner and wonder why it keeps happening? We are interested to hear from men who feel they have issues with violen...ce or aggressive behaviour in their intimate relationships. Domestic violence takes many forms: physical, emotional, financial, verbal, spiritual, sexual, social, stalking. Domestic violence affects all levels of society and culture. This research project is looking to hear from men, aged 18 years and over, who have found themselves acting out against their intimate partners in any of the forms of behaviour listed above. This research project is also looking to hear from men, aged 18 years and over, who would consider themselves to be non-abusive in their intimate relationships, that is, who have not acted out against their partners in any of the forms of behaviour listed above. As part of participating in this research we will provide you with feedback for your own particular situation. You will learn more about how your personality and ways of thinking affect the way you behave in your intimate relationship and the effect on the loved ones in your life. Your participation will involve completing some on-line questionnaires and then a short interview which can be conducted over Skype. Your responses will be kept confidential and will be stored securely as per Queensland University of Technology's (QUTs) Management of research data policy. This research project has been approved by the QUT Human Research Ethics Committee (approval number 1600000701). If you would like to participate or have any questions about the project please contact Dave Misso on 0478 175 256 or [email protected]. Thank you. Dave Misso

10.01.2022 Everyone at some point in their lives needs help and psychologists have the skills and resources to do that. The Believe in Change campaign launched today.

10.01.2022 The perpetration of domestic violence against women is responsible for countless suffering and premature mortality. In spite of significant efforts to address this issue, research into outcome effectiveness of perpetrator interventions show inconsistent and inconclusive results. Dave Misso, Co-director and Counselling Psychologist is currently conducting research into perpetrator behaviour at QUT.

09.01.2022 General mental health and wellbeing during Covid-19 Remember physical distance is essential to control the rate of infection. This does not mean social isolation. Social contact and maintaining routines is important for mental health and wellbeing.... In circumstances where this is not possible, staying connected with colleagues, staff, friends and family online or by phone may assist. 01.01.2022 Information on new services available to support you during this pandemic. As we progress further in the efforts to try and curb the spread of the coronavirus, the impact on people's livelihoods will be significant. Without any clear indication of how long this will last, we must also be mindful of the impact this will have on our physical and psychological wellbeing. Misso Psychology is ready to respond to those in need of assistance in coping with the stress of current time...s. We have put in place strategies for those who may not be able to leave their homes to be able to access us through video or telephone conferencing. The Medical Board of Australia released a statement yesterday outlining policies and strategies for dealing with this unprecedented situation. The Board is acting to increase the number of health practitioners into the system to deal with the increased pressure on the health system as it plans for future demand this situation will create. Along with prioritising registration for medical practitioners, nurses, midwives, paramedics and pharmacists, the Board also recognises the critical role psychologists will have in supporting the mental health of people affected by this pandemic. We need to be mindful of the increased risk to those who are already dealing with mental health issues and other situations that have significant physical and psychological impact, for example domestic violence. With the increased level of social isolation that the pandemic is requiring, we can expect an increase in incidents where people may experience greater anxiety and depression in trying to deal with the current situation. We urge people to contact psychologists to help deal with what is going on at the moment and particularly those who are currently dealing with mental health issues. Medicare has made it possible for those who have been affected by the pandemic to access psychological services via telehealth. More information can be found here - http://www.mbsonline.gov.au//COVID-19bb%20mental%20health1 Private Health Funds have just announced that they will cover Australians access to tele-health for psychology services during the pandemic. https://www.psychology.org.au//Psychologists-welcome-healt Please contact our office for information on tele-health services (07) 3342 1838
