21.01.2022 Nope, not smoke over Bermi today, one of our crazy summer steam fogs. Rain last night. Beautiful folks buying lots of coffee today and a beach full of swimmers. Bless you and thank you. all.

20.01.2022 Having heard, over some years now, that rhinoceroses rush at fires and angrily stamp them out, we at mister hope are undertaking to import 3 of the magnificent creatures from Africa for the fire season. Undaunted by a small amount of research, just conducted, that the link between rhinoceroses and fires is completely unsupported by evidence, our resolve is fixed and we mean to continue. That is, unless we can think of a better idea. Perhaps you could come and have a coffee with us and discuss it. And if there are enough of us, perhaps we could go and stamp on some fire together before we deal with the necessary paperwork, customs, fundraising and other wearisome details. Better that than negotiating a fire grant anyway.

06.01.2022 As if you didn’t know, mister hope is the new name for the coffee shop that nestles in a couple of doors up from honorbread in bermi. New hands began to make the coffee about a year and a half ago and the name was changed late last year. The important things have stayed the same and the rest has continued to evolve gently. Stay tuned for The Socrates Club (philosophy), mister hope electric cinema (mid century art film, homemade choctops and fancy popcorn), soirée number two, the lighting of the woodstove, an exciting range of fine chocolates made by the wondrous Joanna and, when the nightmarish admin is complete, our gin bar, to be open at night. It’s going to be a bumper year of activity at mister hope and we welcome old and new friends with coffee stained arms.

05.01.2022 Well folks, I’m heading up to Moruya tomorrow to pick up a bucket of coffee beans from the legendary Sam at Alfresco and fingers crossed, the power will be back on on Wednesday morning. This means espresso. This also means that you can fling your international roast into the nearest smoking abyss. God it’ll be good to be behind the machine again. Come and debrief, hang out, lie down, curl into a ball or jabber like a lunatic. All welcome. I love every single one of you!!!

04.01.2022 A huge shout out and a hug to the customer and her crew who gave us a beautiful gift overnight. You know who you are T.L. and we love you for your kindness and crazy generosity. Don’t underestimate how much it means to us. Three more customers today who have been totally wiped out by fire and have lost everything. It takes the total up to somewhere between 15 and 20 of my regulars whose lives have been completely shattered. The nobility, the quiet dignity and resolve of th...ese folks is inspiring, heartbreaking and deeply worrying. We need to learn how to hold them for the long term. Meanwhile, beautiful helicopters, the giant bees of salvation, continue their lovely ruckus. Thank you helicopter people. Thank you firies. Thank you ambos, cops, lifesavers, wildlife officers, volunteers, customers and friends. And thank you T.L. Amen.

03.01.2022 Another bullet dodged thanks to the incredible men and women of the rfs, the water bombers and a southerly that swung in and then dropped to nothing. Mister Hope is open for business tomorrow - and for the long weekend.
