18.01.2022 Here’s a closer look at the lovely Decca gramophone custom order from last week. I was particularly happy with the on/off switch, refashioning the needle head so turns the lamp on once lowered down Just like you’re about to drop the needle into the groove of your favourite 78. It’s the little details in a piece like this that I try to add for an enhancement, utilising the pre-existing functions of the object within its new purpose as a lamp.

I was very lucky to have recently acquired a lovely selection of Antique microscopes, mostly from late 1800s, as an elderly gentleman was down sizing his collection. 13.01.2022 For me, the night is when inspiration arrives... When the birds and my loved ones are sleeping, and the sun has called it a day, I’ll get a little spark of energy to carry me all the way, down to the workshop to play. I’ll confess it is messy, a bit like my brain, cluttered and kooky, chaotic and strained... I might be sorting and sifting through a box of seemingly random junk, when I rediscover that ‘what’s-it-called’ I’d collected many moons prior. ... The excitement it gave when I first gazed upon it, rekindled and ready to bring it some justice, to honour it. Now for some thinking, experimenting and tinkering, to get it to where I am happy. 13.01.2022 A custom Scuba Diving helmet lamp, off to its new forever home I’m really happy with how this one turned out, making a solid timber base embellished with vintage rope that nicely compliments the aged copper and brass. It’s lovely when clients know what they like and help me to shape the design after I throw too many ideas at them. 04.01.2022 Celebrating 70 years of this wonderful dad of mine being present on the face of planet Earth. (Some of you night know him as @popupswitch, or Paul!) My best friend, a loving husband, father, uncle and Bubba (grandad) to his lucky family. Not to mention a whole lot of fun and good company to his many friends from Carnegie to Kyneton to United Kingdom. His curiousity, compassion and kindness are to be commended...ask him for help and he’ll be there. He’s been my biggest suppor...ter in helping Upswitch grow to where it is now - travelling interstate for markets, helping to make/design products and sharing his inventive ideas and wisdom. He’s fought some battles in recent years, but came out on top, and we couldn’t be prouder of him. Sadly I couldn’t spend the special day with him, but looking forward to celebrating his milestone in the not-so-distant future. Love you dad See more

03.01.2022 Very much missing attending the markets this year. Last year Upswitch attended approx 15 Design markets, including ones in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra. This year we haven’t attended any markets, and it looks like there won’t be any physical markets before the end of the year Things I miss most about the markets: - Seeing people’s faces light up when they see our quirky lamps - Meeting new customers and hearing about the cool old things they have at ho...me; heirlooms, rare stuff and oddities they collect - Catching up with fellow stallholders, making new stallholder friends and being inspired by their awesome creative businesses - Paroozing the other stalls and finding lovely goodies (I may have a bit of a thing for ceramic mugs) - Feeling like I’m part of an exciting community - Getting motivated to push myself creatively and work harder to achieve my goals (I work well to deadlines!) - Listening to seemingly endless podcasts and cranking the tunes on road trips - Discovering and exploring new op shops/second-hand stores and eateries in the various cities and small country towns we visit - Visiting interstate friends and family Can’t wait to get back to the markets when they finally return, but also enjoying the change of pace this year and seeing my baby girl grow right in front of my eyes!
