16.01.2022 Annie Long River Walk II Earthenware 27cm tall. ... We love these legs! Annie Long certainly has a way with her ceramics. We have three sets of legs in the gallery. Each pair unique. What started out as an intense feeling of itchy feet has led to a series of sculptures acknowledging feet and legs. They symbolise many things in our culture such as how you move forward and make progress in your life. Many religions see the sole as a point of contact with the divine or soul. We can take a stand and stand up for ourselves, we can accomplish great feats, or we can have both feet on the ground. We may have a foot fetish. They are also a popular site for tattoos where the individual chooses a design which expresses a belief or an important event in their life. However, their most important attribute is their ability to feel and sense where we are on our path in life. These three sets of legs are inspired by the river system in which I live. The Tweed River is mercurial by nature, ever changing and a contrast source of surprise. John is a self-taught artist who has always admired the fresh loose approach of the early Australian artists from the Heidelberg School. Whilst John's paintings are traditional in essence, they have a wonderful 'painterly' feel much admired by both his peers and the public. John paints primarily in oils and his subjects... range from landscapes, the occasional still life to coastal scenes. His paintings are full of activity as he captures people enjoying themselves in everyday life and leisure. Vehicles which are commonly seen as modes of transport, status symbols, milestones of mechanical engineering and technology, yet most importantly for me they are tools for nostalgia, catalysts, for virtual journeys of the memory and the mind. Previously I have used cars as symbols to reflect on fossil fuels,... climate change and toxic masculinity, and most recently with this work to examine personal histories and my own family culture. These works are linked literally to travel and movement by their subjects, the means by which we move. I am also capturing something less tangible, yet more quintessential about roaming and moving about. Collectively these works are about the joy and excitement of movement across a spectrum of time. From the immediate rush of wind on your face as you grip a reving motorbike to the slower rhythmic passage of long highway journey as it blurs into a single experience and everything in-between. The cars and motorbike I am presenting here are about the utopian ideas of holidaying and escapism as much as they are about the physical acts of traveling. Booking essential 0419870305 (Helen) Description: Join textile artist Ann Cameron at Mist Galley to create a layered mixed media postcard that could be posted to a friend or used as a mini artwork. All materials and equipment supplied for this two hour workshop where we will create a postcard size work using linen, beautiful handmade paper and ecoprinted silk organza. We may also choose to draw with stitch and pencil to further enhance our creations. We will cover some simple layering techniques and use the scenery and nature of Cabarita to inspire our creations.
