25.01.2022 Tonight member Ros gave a wonderful presentation about her long time spent in Bangladesh during some very tumultuous times and spoke of living, learning and teaching in a different culture. An enthralling presentation. During our happy dollar session Sharon showed off the badge rug she has just finished for her daughter to display all of her guide, scout and travel badges. One of the joys of Rotary is hearing of the interests and passions of our own members.

22.01.2022 We are sorry to announce that our Mitcham Rotary Bookshop will be closed at least for the next six days in accordance with the SAPOL decision to lockdown again. Keep reading and we will catch up soon.

22.01.2022 One of our club’s long standing projects is to make an award through the Mitcham Orchestra to the Young Musician of the Year. This year’s well deserving musician was violinist Joaquin Velasco. We were very proud to present the award last Sunday when Mitcham Orchestra played to a captive audience who had waited for this opportunity after the initial COVID shutdown of the Community hall. Joaquin excelled as soloist playing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No3 in G. So proud to be able to support this young man.

17.01.2022 Please note we will not be taking any more donations until Jan 1st. We have been overwhelmed by your generosity and with limited storage we need time to deal wi...th the intake. Also with our half-price on all of December we want to concentrate on this. So please save your boxes until Jan or use another charity book shop. Thank you for your kind consideration See more

17.01.2022 Last Wednesday it was great to hear from Dr Dylan Grigg speaking of the time he spent with his family (which grew by one whilst he was there) and their 3 years spent living in the Catalonia region in Spain and his field of viticulture. Of course we couldn’t know at the time that we would once again be returning to Zoom Meetings for a while after this. See you on Zoom from 6.45 for 7.00 pm this Wednesday. Same codes as before. Check email from President Barry for details.

16.01.2022 Members were enthralled listening to Dr Sarah Brooker and her amazing comeback story. (Those who weren’t lucky enough to hear her very entertaining presentation should research her book My Lucky Stroke). It was also the night our members celebrated Australian Rotary Health‘s Hat Day by wearing a hat and donating funds for Mental Health Research. Sarah chose the best male and female hat which went to a visitor Doug and also long term member Chris.

16.01.2022 It may not be the greatest of days weather wise but the health workers receiving our thank you sausage lunch at the Repat Hospital don’t seem put off by the odd rain shower.

15.01.2022 Wednesday before our club meeting, a small band of members and President partner Julie commenced stage one of clearing an overgrown and strong rooted patch of rosemary at a local aged care facility, ready to turn it in to a sensory garden. Easy to see where we’ve been and we kept the residents entertained at the same time on a perfect afternoon for sitting outdoors. We’ll be back.

15.01.2022 Wow, what a night. Tonight we were joined by members of the Rotary Club of Prospect to hear from Rachael Zaltron OAM from Backpacks 4 SA Kids INC an incredible charity that our club is proud to support. Thanks to the generosity of our members we were able to provide Rachael with a large collection of donations for their vital services. Member David also gave a brief presentation on the Southern Koala Rescue project that we also support.

15.01.2022 OK so we are free again. We will reopen on Monday morning with business as usual EXCEPT please sign in, sanitise your hands and we encourage mask wearing.

10.01.2022 It’s not all work with Rotary Club of Mitcham. Sunday saw a very large contingent of members, family and friends head through some rarely travelled roads (for most of us anyway) through the towns of the Fleurieu Peninsula. With observation questions to complete and a coffee stop in Yankalilla and more questions in Willunga before heading to the local park for a great social bbq and picnic. Tremendous organisation again by Alex and wife Sue ( even if some disagreed with some of the answers to the well researched questions ). Thank you too to the members of the fundraising committee and other members for their efforts in organising, cooking and serving the food. Also a huge thank you to the person who ordered the perfect weather. What a great day.

09.01.2022 When a good night becomes even better. First we were treated to the story of some fascinating local history when Gavin Scrimgeour gave us insights in to the military training camp that existed in our own locality during the 1914-18 World War. Also covered in his book From Here They Marched - Camp and the training of AIF Volunteers in South Australia 1914-1918. After that experience we were thrilled to welcome another new member Pam, who also happens to be the wife of our President Elect Marko. We look forward to her working with us all to do good and change lives through Rotary.

06.01.2022 What a busy social weekend for Mitcham Rotarians, friends and partners. On Saturday a dedicated team including Verlie, Sandy, Helen C, Pam, Sue S and Julie assisted DG Partner Lyn to host her Garden Party fundraiser to raise funds for Australian Rotary Health for Mental Health Research. Other members and friends of course attended and enjoyed the perfect afternoon, the food, drink and the surroundings of Lyn and David’s beautiful garden Sunday morning saw some members contin...ue with the regular Fun, Friendship and Fitness walks followed by a well earned coffee. Others supported Rotary Club of Eastwood at their Mental Health Walk. Sunday afternoon 3 couples attended 40th Birthday Celebrations and changeover of our daughter club Rotary Club of Brownhill Creek. Seated at 3 different tables gave us a rare opportunity to win the Lucky Spot prize at each table. Definitely the lucky club.

04.01.2022 Wednesday night was an incredible night, with a wonderful speaker in Jude Davis, speaking of her time as a Rotary Youth Exchange student 51 years ago in Oxford, Nebraska. So different to today’s experience where students can speak to family and friends electronically daily if necessary. We then were fortunate to induct 3 wonderful new members in Anne Daw, Doug Grady and Martin Walsh. Even DG David was able to join us to be presented with a PHF Sapphire pin, along with member Lee

03.01.2022 https://www.abc.net.au//solomon-islands-baby-rece/12811130 This is Rotary at work highlighted by today's ABC article. If you want to hear more about the Rotary charity ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children) then visit our club this Wednesday (but a booking must be made with Secretary Andrew by Tuesday evening due to COVID number restrictions) when our guest speakers will be speaking about ROMAC. We are way more than sausage sizzles and local projects. Of course we do still need those sausages to raise funds so support us this Saturday 31st for a non-spooky sausage at Bunnings Edwardstown.

03.01.2022 Our BIG Book Sale is on for every day in June! Share the event, spread the word and help everyone find a bargain!
