25.01.2022 Hats off to anyone we sent home with tablets for their cats this week, do you have any cat pilling tips to share?

21.01.2022 We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy long weekend. We will be open again on Tuesday

19.01.2022 Tipsy recently had a dental scale a polish with us because he was getting a bit of tartar and gingivitis but was not showing any signs of pain. At 15 years old it's much better to get dental cleans done sooner as the inflammation and infection from his teeth can spread to the rest of his body and anaesthetic risk will only increase as he gets old. Once we had Tipsy safely under anaesthesia, we found he had a tooth resorptive lesion, this would be causing poor Tipsy considera...ble pain and may explain how he developed tartar on the other teeth (as he didn't want to chew with his sore tooth). Tooth resorption (previously known as FORLs or Feline Ondontoclastic Resorptive Lesions) is very common in cats, they are similar to cavities but have no known cause. If you would like to know more about this condition have a look here: https://en.wikipedia.org//Feline_odontoclastic_resorptive_ If you are worried about your cat's teeth, please call us on 9874 6151 to book in for a dental check. Tipsy had the affected tooth removed and is recovering well at home. See more

19.01.2022 To all of our valued clients now and over the years. It is with deep sadness and reluctance that we have to now temporarily close the doors of Mitcham Pet Hospital. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the community for the past 39 years. Due to a massive shortage of veterinarians in Victoria and across the nation, we have been unable to secure veterinarians to work in the practice and keep our services open. This problem has been apparent for several years an...d is getting worse. Practices across the state are desperately seeking veterinarians. We have tried to hang on for as long as possible not wanting to disappoint you, our clients. We cannot offer veterinary care without veterinarians; so, we have had to take this extreme measure. We do not do this lightly. It has been a pleasure serving the community and meeting and helping so many nice people and their pets. Thank you for your patronage and support over the years. We wish you all well. Hopefully our doors can reopen in the near future. We know many of you will want and need to have the medical histories of your pets. Please email us with your request and your email address. We will then expedite your request. Our email is [email protected] See more

14.01.2022 What an amazing sheep!

06.01.2022 Nobody likes a difficult nail trim, so we love this video on how to teach your dog to file their own nails. The dog in this video is such a quick learner, don't stress if it takes your dog a bit longer to pick it up.

05.01.2022 February 22nd is 'walk the dog day', followed closely by 'International dog biscuit appreciation day' on February 23rd. We recommend combining the days by packing a handful on delicious doggy treats (and maybe some human ones for you) and set off to find a new favourite walking path. Perhaps you can do it again tomorrow too!
