25.01.2022 Giving standing desks to 20 per cent of office workers would save $84 million in healthcare costs and 7,492 health-adjusted life years by preventing obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, according to the first evaluation in Australia. http://mobile.abc.net.au//standing-desks-are-good/10077266

23.01.2022 Such an inspirational message on determination, positive mindset and the power of support.

23.01.2022 Powerful inspiration for 2018.

23.01.2022 The paradoxical key to happiness seems to be accepting unhappiness not forcing yourself to feel how you don't. By 'showing up' you are stopping any struggle that you might have within yourself about whether you should feel something, shouldn't feel something, should think something, shouldn't think something, whether it's a bad thought or good thought." Rather accepting what is.

22.01.2022 All the happiness research concurs that strong social connections and community are the most fundamental components for happiness. One of the longest running studies, from Harvard, has followed men from all different economic/social backgrounds since 1938, and the overwhelming revelation, according to Robert Waldinger, current director of the study and a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, is that close relationships and strong community, more than fame, class, money, IQ, or even genes, are what keep people healthy and happy in their lives and delay mental and physical decline. Loneliness kills. Its as powerful as smoking or alcoholism. #InternationalDayofHAPPINESS

16.01.2022 Australian cancer experts are launching a "world-first" position statement calling for exercise to be prescribed to all cancer patients as part of their routine treatment. In the COSA statement released this month, recommendations are that all people with cancer should avoid inactivity and be as physically active as current abilities and conditions allow. Most people with cancer don't meet exercise recommendations, and outlines a level of exercise, including:... -At least 150 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise (e.g. walking, jogging, cycling, swimming) each week; and, -Two to three resistance exercise (i.e. lifting weights) sessions each week involving moderate to vigorous-intensity exercises targeting the major muscle groups. 15.01.2022 Thrilled to@be listening to esteemed researcher Prof Cordelia Fine at the Irene Longman oration. Listening to Prof Fines insightful comments- if we assume that women are not confident and need mentoring; then we also assume men are overconfident & need modesty training. . #biasinterrupter #mitchellservices

15.01.2022 R u ok day is not just a one off event or a question you just ask today. Asking R U OK is just the beginning. . How interested are you in people outside of your everyday busy? How curious are you towards people who are different to you & why their perspectives are different to you? Are you aware in a group there are people in the in-group & people in the out-group? How are you bringing people in? How do you deal with perspectives different to your own- do you seek to shut peo...ple down? How much do you rely on stereotypes of people? How do you get comfortable with being uncomfortable? How open are you to having your perspectives changed? How open are you to people who are different to you- are you willing to learn more? Do you always communicate with respect? How open are you to direct communication when there is a problem? Do you create space for people to speak up? Are you a bystander in uncomfortable situations? How willing are you to mindfully listen when the answer is- Im not ok? Are you focused on fixing people- or meeting them where they are at? . R u ok is the beginning of conversations- not just today. . #ruok #psychologicalsafety #unconciousbias #inclusion #belonging See more

15.01.2022 How amazing is this lady's attitude- teaching yoga at 99 bringing her and others joy. "Ask yourself- how can I help others".

14.01.2022 Feel like you are stuck in your thinking? Recent research shows that having a break and going for a walk- particularly outside- opens up the free flow of ideas, and is a simple and robust solution to the goals of increasing creativity and increasing physical activity. Seen in recent years, the rise of walking meetings with changes of scenery trigger new neuro-pathways in our brains which yield new ideas, and new solutions to problems.

14.01.2022 A growing body of research over the past decade shows that a healthy diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish and unprocessed lean red meat can prevent depression. And an unhealthy diet high in processed and refined foods increases the risk for the disease in everyone, including children and teens. Now recent studies show that a healthy diet may not only prevent depression, but could effectively treat it once its started.

12.01.2022 While drinking rates among teenagers have fallen, health experts are concerned about the drinking habits of older Australians and the dangers posed to their long-term health. Professor Steve Allsop from the National Drug Research Institute at Curtin University said drinking every day was often something people did without realising the impact. "It's not an unusual habit," he told ABC Radio Perth.... "The problem that we have is that if after work, like putting the kids to bed, going for a swim, watching a movie, it becomes part of everything you do; it becomes so ritualised that you start becoming dependent." Once drinking creeps up, so does the risk of serious illness. "Once you start drinking regularly, more than two standard drinks a day, there is an increasing risk of a range of things breast cancer, oesophageal cancer, prostate cancer," the professor said. "You can enjoy a drink here and there- but the more you drink, the more often you drink, the greater the risk.

11.01.2022 Raise a glass of rioja to the Spanish, for they are soon to be the nation with the longest life expectancy in the world. By 2040, according to a new report by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, the Spanish are expected to have an average lifespan of 85.8 years, outliving even the Japanese, who have long headed the global longevity tables. The Spainish likely to walk for ten minutes or more on at least four days of the week, with 76 per cent of people meeting that mark; most walk/ cycle to work; follow the Mediterranean diet with moderate red wine, olive oil, tomatoes & almonds; have daily siestas; work longer hours but take more breaks & more.

08.01.2022 Listening to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) on a national event roadshow for the release of WGEAs fifth year of gender equality reporting data as well as the UKs first year of reporting the gender pay gap. . Some way to go for both countries to close the gender pay gap for which causes are complex & nuanced starting right from university grads first year out (hint- if you havent undertaken a pay gap analysis- you probably arent qualified to comment). . Interes...tingly the UK government is leading the way by disclosing all government departments at all levels pay gaps as well as mandating for all employers to publish gender pay gaps. Australias government? Focused on regulating employers to publish gender pay gaps- but not themselves. . #leadbyexample #genderdiversity #wgea #mitchellservices See more
