24.01.2022 The 19th of August marks World Photography Day, and the birth of yours truly Today, I reflect on my experiences in not only my life during these 30 years, but also in uncovering the landscapes of my home land; Australia, in the medium of this universal language - photography. With age, you look forward to the next stage in your journey on this planet. With photography I look forward to what comes next, the locations it will take me, and what it means for the future. It’s so... much more than a hobby or passion, it’s a lifestyle that defines meaning and depth to ones self, in a voyage of discovery. Nothing else compares - for me, it’s meditative, challenging, and invigorating all at the same time, and the desire to travel long and far has fueled this creativeness. I feel a full life spent well inspired by the people I love and the natural beauty around me. So I look to continue sharing this journey with you all and the images it creates over the year ahead. Happy World Photography Day to all

20.01.2022 From the big smoke and suburbs into the hinterlands on the Sunshine Coast stands the loneliest trunk and head of branches, you ever saw. It sits inside a paddock with a gate marked as private property, overlooking the layers of the Glass House Mountains. It’s Maleny’s - One Tree Hill. Perhaps more well known to those who wed in this picturesque little town, it’s definitely spun more than a few memories over the years, and hung around for many more than that. This spot gains a... particular amount of attention, and the owner Mr’s Woods asks for a donation (arranged ahead of time) to enter and bask in this location. All funds go towards local community groups, so it’s always for a good cause. This particular afternoon whipped up a palette of hues across the clear sky, with not a sound to be heard except the gentle breeze rolling in the background.

19.01.2022 Sometimes the daily grind gets a bit much; it’s the hours, attention to detail, the commitment, and the where else I’d rather be. It can be hard to find the time, the motivation, the strength to just keep on going. And that’s just how it is lately... the shutter count is low and the archives don’t grow. Photography can be challenging at the best of times, but full time work really takes the cake. With Melbourne on the cards this weekend, I welcome a change in the air and in my viewfinder. What do you do to to keep inspired during those long weeks?

18.01.2022 Hadn’t really had the chance to test out my new Sony 70-200 f/4 G OSS Lens until last weekend to get the shots I was really after. The perfect afternoon at Echo Point Lookout was so incredibly inviting to change all of that. Moody skies and a peek of sunset, lit up the cloud and those mountain layers each with varying depths of that classic Blue Mountains hue. It’s not a shot that I am massively accustom to, but it’s one that I look forward to capturing again and again. What particular style of shot or edit have you wanted to try, but never made the leap to?

18.01.2022 What a jam packed 6 days based out of Melbourne. The vibrancy, color and pace carried itself right outside the city, along the Great Ocean Road and into the state countryside. This trip was definitely the sought after breather, filled with epic sunsets, and stunning views.

17.01.2022 A little behind the scenes. Cheers to Darren Donlen for an awesome 2 day adventure!

16.01.2022 Simplicity is king - minimal thought to composition, to shoot, to edit; the Loch Ard Gorge is simply inviting. Took my head out of the clouds, and onto the ground (or sea ) for this one. The gap in the sky illuminated the cliffs and ground which opened up the opportunity for me to start the shoot. After a small shower, the beach cleared of people and I set up shop towards the end of the beach in front of this small rock. Many of these small to large boulders lie on the sand, and in fact a rather large piece eroded from the cliffs not but a couple of weeks ago on the other end near the sea cave. Ironically, this piece held the sign indicating that there is danger of rock-fall in the area Nature is beautiful, but respect the very real dangers that come with it, even in popular places.

15.01.2022 It’s been a while... what do you do when inspiration is short and the reserves are a ...little dry? It’s still all hands on deck for mitchmphoto and the website gallery update - new sizes, and variations are on the way with all new images. However, I’m really hanging out for a jam packed weekend full of shooting in a new location. This ripper of an afternoon put on an incredible display of color in the Blue Mountains. It kickstarted a weekend getaway in Katoomba with long wal...ks during the days on all sorts of trails, and tall glasses of wine in the evenings. It’s a special feeling to hang out in a small town and see a wholesome display of community spirit in the pubs This comp had wispy high clouds screeching across the horizon, but didn’t pull quite as far for a full blown reverse sunset (sorry, Three Sisters - not the winners this time around). Still, focus on the lowering sun pulled off that smoky color storm. The mountains to the south also had the right mood for a few layer shots on the (new) 70-200. More to come...

14.01.2022 A wonder through the woods - Had the pleasure a couple of weeks ago to frolic through Sugarpines Walk in Laurel Hill. We arrived via Batlow, after spending the night at @newbatlowhotel chatting to some of the locals and getting local tips for our following day. Albeit we arrived about a week early to get a heavy dusting of snow, the forest was quiet and ominous... until the hordes arrived... One of those locations I could have definitely spent a lot more time in, but I guess there’s always next time

11.01.2022 It was soon that Skip and Joey realized that the camera was indeed not lunch. I’m not much of a wildlife photographer, but these guys were too cool to shoot. In Hall’s Gap, there are an abundance of Kangaroos hopping around. Always great to meet a local

09.01.2022 With the year rapidly drawing to an end, I’ve been spending the past couple of weeks trrrryying to get out more to shoot and keep things interesting, but also invest more time in my website and prints. I’ve been giving it a lot of thought and want to expand my line of products from online, to in-person sales preferably via the markets. I’m no stranger to them having worked my hospitality days (flipping pofferjes) spending many a early morning helping run a stall and working f...or large events across a variety of locations. Lots of fond memories were had and it’s something I’d love to do again. Besides that there’s lots happening of the Christmas period, which means no time for rest & relaxation but to keep my head down and bringing my plans to fruition. No time for any distractions! Here’s a little something from a couple of months ago at Princess Pier in Melbourne on a moody afternoon which turned out to have a ripper sunset.

08.01.2022 Rather than working on a lot of new content, I’ve been sifting through a backlog of images from Melbourne and The Grampians. Some of it is even worth sharing, so here’s a little something after traversing down the mighty stairs of the Mackenzie Falls. The idea was to get as low as possible (handheld), to keep the river bank and the base of the falls all together with the falling water, captured in a single exposure. Despite it being quite busy on this sunny day, I wanted to e...voke a type of mood that encapsulates the dramatic intensity of the falls themselves. Besides the hordes of people, I really enjoyed this place and have no doubt that with a bit more time and persistence I could have pulled off the same comp even further down the river to add more of its many tiers. It’s just one of the many beauties that this part of Victoria has to offer, in its vast Aussie wilderness. Do yourself a favor and get out there!

04.01.2022 From Melbourne to Brisbane; hitting up the capitals the past couple of months. Although early mornings and dusky sunsets have been a little bare, there still has been a lot going on behind the scenes that I can’t wait to share with you all. There will be more prints coming to the website in due course, with fantastic deals. Here’s a little something from late last month. After heading down the Yarra on a river cruise, a couple of good mates and I decided to traipse our way back down the walkway to the Swan Street Bridge where we popped off a few minute exposures while the clouds did their thing. There were a few kayaks and boats heading our way, but the shutter stayed open too long for them to show.
