12.01.2022 Mitiamo has lost one of the club’s all time greats with Geoff Pollock losing his battle with illness on Saturday 23rd of May. Geoff was always there in a variety of jobs over almost 60 years of involvement with the club. Geoff moved to Dingee with his family in 1958. His father Ern became head trainer and Geoff and his brothers Kevin and Stan became senior Mitiamo footballers. Geoff played senior footy at Mitiamo from 1960 through to 1973, which included over 100 consecutiv...e senior games. In total, Geoff played over 250 games with the club. When the reserves competition started in 1970, Geoff was appointed as the first Mitiamo coach in the new competition. He set a great example at full back and helped many young players learn by his example. The other great quality he showed was his loyalty to the club. It is difficult to list all the positions he held over the years, but the main ones were President (1985), Secretary (1986 1993), Reserves coach (1970-1971) and Junior assistant coach with Stuart Bott where they saw many young Superoos graduate to senior ranks. When he retired, he immediately became a very capable official and gate keeper, a position which he held for many years. Geoff played the entire 1967 Senior Premiership season under coach Ron Byrne, but sadly was injured in the Preliminary Final and missed playing in the Grand Final. In honour of Geoff's outstanding contribution to the Mitiamo Football Netball Club. he was honoured with life membership in 1991. Away from the ground, Geoff was a dedicated farmer for most of his working career. He also was the ranger for the Loddon Shire where he encountered tough situations which he sorted out to everyone’s benefit and kept our roads as free of animal accidents as possible. Geoff and his wife Jean have three children, Janine, Warren and Narelle. Warren played with Mitiamo in 1986 - 1983. Janine won two A Grade Best and Fairest awards for Mitiamo in 1992 and 1993 and B Grade in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Narelle won the B Grade Best and Fairest in 1994, 1995 and 1997. Geoff Pollock was an exceptionally loyal player and contributor to the Mitiamo Football Netball Club. The club extends its sympathies to Jean and the Pollock family on the loss of a true champion whose contribution will never be forgotten.
