24.01.2022 Long before townsites were gazetted along the Turquoise Coast, fishermen and pastoralists were driving to their favourite spots for fishing and camping amongst... the dunesthe start of the proliferation of tracks. Many years later, with cars being the only way to access the long shoreline and tourism expected to expand, the Shires along the areas are happy to have volunteers from all over coming to work to protect their dunes and to keep sustainable access (the key words) to the attractions of the Turquoise Coast. Tending the Tracks Alliance has, since 2018, been working with Shire and DBCA Rangers to remediate the dunes, to keep sustainable access to the beaches, to reduce the number of tracks and blowouts and to help sustain the right tracks that will last into the future. Early November we did our last project for 2020 for the Coorow Shire at Leeman/ Green Head. Previously we had been walking up and down sand dunes dragging brush. This time it was all on the horizontal !!! And how good was that !! We were brushing beside tracks where sand was denuding of plant growth to keep cars on tracks, while still leaving passing spots. Same weekend for the Dandaragan Shire further south, some of the Wanagarren group on the Grey to Wedge track were expanding their experiences into citizen science fields, while the rest were dune brushing. As it heats up into summer we all now take a step back. It’s been a limiting year for our activities, but it has allowed the coordinators to breathe ..and to look into our directions for 2021.

23.01.2022 Another group out on the long weekend and well into the week went to the Northeast corner of the wheatbelt and beyond to climb rocks and look at historic waterholes and wells. Some great dawns and dusks.

22.01.2022 Meeting tonight. Crowded room. Many many new visitors. Only half hour in and loads of laughter already. Heckling is encouraged

22.01.2022 It was a lovely day for a country drive last Saturday. Our Club was at Boyagin Rock for some driving on the tracks and just enjoying the bush and farmland. A little bit of 4WDing. Two echidnas spotted and one lamb rescued from the wrong side of the fence and reunited with mum.

22.01.2022 Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges WA is being made more family friendly with Improvements enabled after the recent destructive bushfires.

21.01.2022 At last, a day trip Capt. Fawcett track trip for 11 vehicles and 18 members. Busy track with other groups there as well.

21.01.2022 Jarrahdene weekend Over 20 vehicles just spent a weekend at the Jarrahdene campsite south of Margaret River. Mostly a social weekend but with a trip to Black Point and to Forest and Coast tracks. Or, for some, just to local shops and cafes. Big thanks to DPaW for helping us with the bookings and for the excellent campsite. And, when we were there, fires were allowed.

21.01.2022 Peak hour at Cahills Crossing! IG @rachellemay.wa thanks for sharing!

20.01.2022 Great to see lots of visitors at our Open Day yesterday. We enjoyed having good conversations and answering questions about the Club, vehicles, and trips. 17.01.2022 Latest information from Queensland for those of you following the 'Time to Align' campaign... aligning vehicle modifications and specifications across Australian States and Territories: Following on from ARMA’s Time-To-Align campaign, the Queensland Government have opened a public inquiry into vehicle modification regulations. The parliamentary link, and terms of reference for the inquiry are at:... https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au//curren/VehSafetyStdTech Australian Recreational Motorists Association (ARMA) has put together a lengthy 29 page submission into the parliamentary committee, which includes 27 recommendations / rejections, in accordance with the terms of reference. We are seeking a significant push to enable more flexibility in safe, practical and affordable modifications, so auto-mechanical engineers / approved certifiers have the freedom to use a wider range of testing and certification standards and to use their own skills. NOTE: While this submission is just to the Queensland Government, we’ve been very cognisant of other state / motoring group’s concerns, because if there is a push to create a National Light Vehicle Modification Regulator, everyone needs to be involved and progress very cautiously. --- Kind regards, Miles Brennan President ARMA Website: https://www.arma.net.au Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AURECMA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/AURECMASN Twitter: https://twitter.com/AURECMA

16.01.2022 Members meeting Wednesday 5 May cancelled We are sad to advise that due to the current restrictions in the post covid lockdown transition period, including a limitation on numbers at the Manning Centre imposed by the Council, we have had to cancel our members meeting this Wednesday 5 May. We investigated moving the meeting to a date later in the month but the centre was not available. All of our planned trips are still going ahead.... 15.01.2022 Hope I’m still travelling to drive it done.

15.01.2022 UPDATE 11:15 - Thursday Benjamin and Nathalie have phoned police and advised them that they are okay. They will attend the police station at their next stop. T...hey thank everyone for their concern. ====================================================== Police are urgently seeking the public’s assistance for information regarding the whereabouts of 29-year-old Benjamin KRESS and 26-year-old Nathalie EICH (KRESS) who are German nationals travelling in the Kimberley area.

14.01.2022 Gus Luck Track and back A small group of Club explorers was out a couple of weeks ago taking the Gus Luck Track from Southern Cross to Goongarrie and then back via the Helena Aurora Range. The GLT follows an 1893 supply track created by Gus Luck (although the wells are by the Public Works Dept) with regular wells to supply the short lived Ninety Mile (later Goongarrie) gold rush. This bit of the trip is from "4WD Trips in the Goldfields ". We found wells, soaks, and tanks, an...d a couple of graves. The track is rarely used and very overgrown and washed out in places. Very scratchy in places with one big washout along the track which does have a side track but this sand collapsed under one vehicle. Pulled out backwards and proceeded after some digging. After Goongarrie we went via the Menzies Evanston Road to veer off to find more old wells on a track from Mt Jackson to Ullaring. Then to HAR from the east. Much looking for hidden wells and graves. A great few days wandering around around the bush .

13.01.2022 With 180 days until the Western Australian 2021 state election, we are pleased to announce the launch of the WA "Time to Align" campaign. All political parties ...registered in WA have been formally contacted, in order to address vehicle modification legislation, as a key election commitment. The "Time To Align" campaign is seeking to allow certified auto-mechanical engineers in each state / territory, to undertake engineered modifications using the ADRs, similar to the federal Second Stage Manufacturing (SSM) certification process which can only be used on brand new vehicles. This is currently a massive restriction on the consumer and automotive aftermarket industry, due to misalignment of state and federal legislation. Additionally, certified / engineered vehicle modifications which have been approved in one state, should be nationally recognised by all other states and territories, when selling / transferring vehicle registrations between jurisdictions. Many states don't allow this, requiring modifications to be re-certified, or removed. Special interest vehicle registration should also be allowed 60-90 days of general road use each year, outside of organised club events and maintenance, so classic / historic / special motor vehicles can be appreciated much more through the wider motoring, rather limiting them to sanctioned club trips only. Formal request can be found at: https://www.timetoalign.org.au/wa-pre-election-request/ #ElectionTime Animal Justice Party Australian Christians Australian Federation Party WA Labor Daylight Savings Party WA Health Australia Party WA Liberal Democrats WA The Nationals WA Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party WA The Greens (WA) Flux WA - Digital Democracy Liberals WA WESTERN AUSTRALIA PARTY WA 4WD Association Motorcycling Western Australia Hot Rod & Street Machine Spectacular WA Historic Touring Car Club Perth City Street Machine Club - inc Australian Street Machine Federation WA Division WA Street Machines Holden Car Club of WA Great Southern Street Machines Association

12.01.2022 Handy map showing regional borders. How handy? Use it to find out if the Captain Fawcett track is in the Perth/Peel region or not. https://dafwa.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Embed/index.html

11.01.2022 Although NSW is mentioned and civilisation is a tad closer in eastern states than in outback WA the information is relevant and useful. How many knew about UHF channels 5 and/or 35?.... which are the designated emergency channels and operate on a repeater system to enable much longer range.

11.01.2022 Caravan camping in the South West A small club group was down south last weekend at Grimwade (an abandoned timber mill and town). A relaxed trip checking out the area.

10.01.2022 The club was at the Avon Valley National Park over the weekend for a camp cooking feast. Communal meal on Saturday night in the pictures.

09.01.2022 I didn’t know about the rocking front wheels back and forth to get traction from the sides of the rut . Every time I read something I learn something more.

08.01.2022 In 2011 the Mitsubishi 4WD Owners Club WA completed planting to rehabilitate an old airstrip in Wungong National Park for DBCA. Now (the last photo) it's hard to recognise the area. The club was out there on the weekend volunteering for DBCA again picking up rubbish and clearing firetrails.

06.01.2022 Trip Planning for 2021 completed A meeting of about 30 members last week put up their trip offerings for 2021. Just under 50 trips and events are now in the calendar. 02.01.2022 Tending the Tracks work update Earlier this year members of the Mitsubishi 4WD Owners Club WA and some other volunteers spent a day on a Tending the Tracks project at Leeman to close a sandhill track and promote natural revegetation by brushing the bare areas. There are plenty of other tracks to the beach close by so this does not limit access. After six months the pictures show that there has been no vehicles on the area and that regeneration is beginning. OK there are some weeds but there are also native plants there.

02.01.2022 One of two Club groups out over the long weekend was at Karalee exploring and camping with some superb nights.
