25.01.2022 Mitta CFA Brigade Report, February 2020. Hi all, some notes on the first half of the fire season. I have to report that the Mitta Brigades second application for an Ultra-Light Tanker has been rejected. Our recent fire situation has proved again how exposed Mitta is to threat, when we have fire fronts on three sides with possibility of immediate impact. As you can imagine, these applications take a considerable amount of time and effort to collate the supporting data for t...he applications. I would like to thank Michael Coldham for his efforts in preparing the two submissions. The reply from Bill Tilley, our local member, for additional support regarding this application was not optimistic, so I would encourage all of you to contact him and ask for this to be taken up by him. During the recent fire threat the CFA shed was open for business for ten days. During that time we were able to provide information and safety equipment to members of the Community. I would like to thank everyone who helped, including Steve Harris and especially Mel Duncan. Without Mel, it would have been difficult for me to provide all the assistance to the community. During the fire threat, Helen Muldeary kept many people informed via social media. Helen's experience in the 2003 fires, her training as a firefighter and knowledge of social media, helped the brigade to keep people informed in many places. Now we have, with the help of Michael Coldham, our own facebook page, I have asked Helen to manage this page for the brigade. Many thanks to Helen for her efforts and I hope she continues in her role as Media Liaison. In early December 2019, the Mitta Brigade received approval to conduct fundraising for various pieces of equipment for the truck and shed. If anyone would like to donate to the brigade please send to the following: Mitta CFA - BSB 633 000 Account number 162 970 867 reference 24V or to Treasurer Mitta CFA, Mitta Post Office, Mitta Mitta 3701 regards, Mark Muldeary Captain Mitta CFA

22.01.2022 Dear all, I hope you are all well and coping as well as possible at present. The Chief Officer has requested that Burn Over drills be completed for the upcoming fire season. At present I am waiting on some further advice before we conduct the drills. I am also making arrangements for new members to complete the Online component of the Firefighter training online, and hopefully making the training easier. Please remember, if you need help ring me and I will try to arrange assistance. Cheers, Mark Muldeary. 0409 525 114

21.01.2022 Hi all, this morning the Mitta Valley CFA brigades were honoured by the Community with the Local Champions Award, and along with all the volunteer groups these people deserve the recognition. The Mitta award was accepted by Mel Duncan, Brigade 3rd Lieutenant and Community Liaison Officer. Mel has been a stalwart member of the brigade, who worked tirelessly during the difficult times last summer. Well done all, Mark Mitta CFA.

19.01.2022 Hi all, Mitta CFA is burning the green tip tomorrow, Tuesday 27th, starting at 9.00am. Please pass on to all.

19.01.2022 Hi all, I hope you are all well at the moment. As you know, we started the year with our most difficult fire threats for nearly 20 years. things didn't improve with the impact of covid 19 and we have not been able to conduct our business in the usual way. Training for new members, elections and skills for existing fire fighters have all been postponed. I am currently trying to arrange training to cover our needs, and we are hoping to conduct an election for the Brigade. In the next few days we will be contacting members to ask for nominations for all positions. I will try to ensure as many members as possible are contacted. Please bear with us while we try to get this right.

15.01.2022 Hi all, I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather. On Sunday the 11th October we will conduct the burnover drill for all operational staff for this year. We will conduct three 20 minute sessions starting at 10.00am. As you are aware, this training is mandatory for all operational members. Can i also remind everyone to reply to the nomination notice that was sent out last week.

15.01.2022 Hi all, it's been a while since there was much to report. The fire season has finally come and we will all need to be careful as the area dries out. There are still a number of fire fighters who have not completed the annual BURN OVER and dangerous trees briefing. A burn over drill will be conducted on Sunday 31st January, so can you all attend if you have not already completed the drill. THE MITTA COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU. I am currently trying to set up a minimum skills course... for our new members, Covid has caused issues with this but I am hopeful we will have something happening soon. Any members of the community interested in becoming fire fighters feel free to contact me and we can arrange to sign people up. We will be conducting elections for all positions in the brigade on the 11th April 2021. In addition, the service awards presentation will be held as well. there will be more information on this later. All the best for the year to all Mark Muldeary Mitta CFA See more

13.01.2022 People in Benambra and surrounding areas may see an increase in smoke as firefighters continue to burn out a section of forest to the south of the Pheasant Cree...k fire today. The purpose of burning out (or backburning) is to create stronger control lines to keep the fire contained and protect assets including private property and the Dartmouth Dam. This video shows Mik Ritchie, Benambra Division Commander, talking about the burning out operation currently underway by firefighters from Forest Fire Management Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and the America Hot Shots with support from contractors. Today firefighters are also working on fires near Omeo, Bindi, Ensay, Swifts Creek and surrounds with a focus on removing hazardous trees and extinguishing hot spots. 06.01.2022 Brewing the Resilience Pale Ale today to support those impacted by bushfires. This recipe is being brewed by 200 different breweries worldwide. All the profits ...from this beer goes to a cause of the brewer’s choosing. We will be donating all the profits from our brew to Zoos Victoria Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund 2020. The amount of wildlife that has been devastated by these fires is massive and they need all the help they can get. Thank you to @voyager_craft_malt for donating the malt to us. 02.01.2022 WASH YOUR HANDS, STAY HOME, BE KIND | In these unprecedented times, it’s particularly important to be kind and take care of one another. For the sake of the vul...nerable - the immune-compromised, our older residents, those who are already unwell - do the right thing and stay home. If you must leave the house for essential activity, please wash your hands (a lot) and practise social distancing. We are asking all visitors to the Alpine Shire to go home as soon as possible.Caravan parks were required to close from midnight last night (25 March 2020). As people make their way out of town, please be kind and treat each other with respect. At the supermarket, on social media, at work and in the broader community, please remember - we’re all in this together. And we will get through this together, as a community, and come through it stronger than ever. Read a message from our Mayor here: https://www.alpineshire.vic.gov.au//news/message-mayor-cov

01.01.2022 How about this for a mobile refuelling station at Mitta Airport. The eye in the sky providing real time fire front information and at other times providing water to the water bombers. Hit it hard and fast a good way to be..

01.01.2022 Thank you to everyone for your personal support this fire season. Thank you to all of you that supported our fundraising and a special thank you to those fantastic carp fishermen who are clearly the best for their donation of $4,770 from their carp fishing competition. Who would have figured such a terrific outcome. Thank you from all of us at the Mitta Brigade.
