25.01.2022 So it appears we have a froggy choir on the banks of the Mitta River! They’re serenading everyone at the moment, and seem most active near the workshop. It really is lovely to listen to

24.01.2022 Covid-19 and it’s rules affecting caravan parks are currently the hardest part of operating. After being closed 3 times this year because of bushfires and Covid, the harsh restrictions still in place since we were allowed to reopen are a source of frustration for us as well as guests and visitors. Currently, groups/individuals comprised of more than two households/residential addresses CANNOT gather in the park. This includes our Annuals and friends, and visitors to their s...ites. Please understand, we are -required- to prevent bookings and visitors which cause a breach to this rule. Please also know, it is ~heartbreaking~ for us to stop visitors coming in, and telling people that they can’t gather the way they want to. The park cannot afford $10,000 fines and we don’t want guests fined either. From tomorrow, all guests and Annuals will be given a document on arrival, which outlines the state laws which affect their stay in the park. We are expecting spot checks from Victoria Police or Authorised Officers, so we strongly encourage you to follow the instructions we provide. We desperately hope these laws change soon. The cost to the park is significant in many ways, and the restrictions don’t reflect the views of park staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this together

24.01.2022 Happy Mother’s Day to all you beautiful Mums out there

24.01.2022 SNOW! Check out our amazing view from the beer garden! The sun is out, the beer is cold and the food is delicious! What more could you ask for!

23.01.2022 Well here we are 2 and bit weeks into it. Everyday gets easier Still busy but when you walk out the door to the most gorgeous scenery, it makes cleaning all those cabins and vans so bearable.

22.01.2022 Well we weren’t expecting this this morning! Two massive gum trees and a birch decided to lie down. It was very very windy! Thankfully Riverina Tree Care are on their way to help us out in the lead up to Melbourne Cup weekend!

22.01.2022 It’s taken 2 days but the camp kitchen is open again! You’ll need your own crockery, cutlery and pots/pans, thanks to Covid, but we have a microwave, fridge, electric hot plates, sandwich press, new kettles and toasters available for you :)

22.01.2022 Dinner at the Mitta Pub .. the venison on the Specials menu is mouthwatering, as are the Mitta Valley Beef medallions. Our guests are also raving about the quality of meals at the Mitta Mitta Brewing Co. With Melbourne now allowed to return to regional Victoria from tomorrow, you have brilliant menu options waiting for you! ... Remember you can book your stay with us online outside of peak times!

22.01.2022 Mitta Mitta - by D.G Muir I know a lovely valley, With a river running by, Close to where the Bogongs... Raise their uplands to the sky. Where the Herefords are grazing Till November comes again, Then trek to richer pastures On Bogong's fertile plain. Where Nature in her glory, As yet unspoiled by man, Unfolds a wondrous story Of the years since time began. If you'd drink deep of it's beauty, Know its charms which never fade, And stand alone in wonder As the loveliness arrayed, Go you down the road to Mitta, Pass you by the little streams, And there you'll find my lovely valley In a Paradise of dreams. Found today whilst tidying in the office. What a magical description of the Mitta Valley!

21.01.2022 We’re excited to announce that guests can now make their own bookings through our Facebook page! Simply click on the Book Now button and you can do it all without needing to contact us directly. Disclaimer - there may be a few bugs yet to sort out, and peak periods are not available to book online. We prefer to manage those ourselves for the sake of our regular guests at these times.... Woohoo!!!

21.01.2022 Cleaners required still to clean cabins and toilets as required. Not hard work but constant. 15 hours a week guaranteed at least until after Xmas. These hours may increase over the busy time if interested.

17.01.2022 The tasting paddles are a great way to sample their beers and identify your favourite!!

16.01.2022 Having a play in the backyard where the snowy creek joins the Mitta river

15.01.2022 Some impromptu carpentry today as we replaced the old cooktops in Cabins 1 & 2. With new fridges added since we revamped the cabins last year, these new cooktop/ovens freshen things up even more

15.01.2022 It’s been a super productive day so there’s a second post to share! We were successful in obtaining a grant for an AED (automated external defibrillator) for the park. A wonderful addition to the park, and, located outside the office, it’s accessible in the case of an emergency. ... The case is alarmed, so opening it will trip the siren. The case is also visible on our CCTV cameras. Thank you to the park’s Committee of Management for supporting our grant application for this life saving piece of equipment. 11.01.2022 I always look forward to these blooming in the garden. It’s such a gorgeous Spring day

11.01.2022 Riverina Tree Care came to the rescue this afternoon and have done absolutely stellar work! They even removed the stumps and filled in the holes! Totally professional, they raked up the debris as well. Thank you so much for this - now we can concentrate our efforts on the Melbourne Cup long weekend preparations.

10.01.2022 A QR code is now located at the office to make signing in faster - ALL guests/visitors must sign in on arrival

06.01.2022 For the information of guests and visitors - from midnight tonight you must wear a fitted face mask. Face shields, bandanas, scarves etc are no longer suitable. Also, from midnight tonight, regional businesses must check that visitors are not from Melbourne. The fines are $10,000 for businesses, so if you haven’t stayed with us before, please bear with us as we ask you for photo ID to verify your current home address.

06.01.2022 Double bed, ensuite bathroom, kitchenette, lounge/dining, set of bunks. Sleeps 4.

06.01.2022 We’re going to miss these views! For those who don’t know, Paul and I have decided to move on after more than two years. Starting this Facebook page has been wonderful for us to keep guests up to date and engaging with us.... We’ve upgraded facilities and accommodation, integrated a cloud based reservation system, survived 2020 with its bushfires and Covid. We’ve also made some wonderful friends! Thank you to the beautiful Mitta Valley community for making us feel so welcome, and also for those who took the time to come and say a personal goodbye. It’s meant the world to us! It’s a bittersweet time. We love the valley so will be back so we can holiday and see some of you again. Please welcome Rod and Deb as they fill the role as Interim Caretakers who will ensure the park continues to thrive in these turbulent times. Take care and thank you so much for the memories!

04.01.2022 Unplanned power outage in the Mitta Valley - estimated time to restore 5pm. Please refer to https://www.outagetracker.com.au/

04.01.2022 Hi everyone Rob and Stacey here the new caretakers, we have moved from The yarra valley with 5 of our 6 kids. We started at Easter and have been welcomed to this beautiful area by the Park guests and local members of the community. If we haven’t met you yet we look forward to meeting you soon.

04.01.2022 Our onsite vans are popular with budget conscious travellers, and today we’ve made a couple of minor improvements. A new fridge in Van 3, as well as new electric cooktops and entry curtains in Vans 1 & 8. With TVs and split systems, they’re really quite comfortable. Guests have always brought their linen for the beds, however since Covid happened, you also need to bring your own cutlery, crockery and cookware, or as we say, a picnic basket, pot and frying pan!

03.01.2022 This beautiful kingfisher flew into our glass door this evening and was quite stunned. We’ve not seen one here before, and we knew it was coming right when it started snapping its beak at us as we gently stroked its feathers, then it took off and flew towards the river. Phenomenal experience, and it made our day to see this beautiful bird take flight after a traumatic experience... #mittavalley #lovewhereyoulive North East CMA

02.01.2022 The old electric bbq at the weather hut gave up the ghost quite a few months ago, but new electric bbqs are suuuper expensive. We got creative and installed this lovely gas one instead! Cleaning kit provided of course. Ready for our first guests to christen it for us!

02.01.2022 Today has been super busy in the office and the park. Melbourne residents can finally organise their travel into regional Victoria and beyond. How wonderful! We were out cleaning for an hour early this morning and had 15 missed calls, but only 10 messages. We are also training new staff.... ~ If you don’t leave a message, we can’t call you back! Calling multiple times without a message doesn’t help us to help you ~ We’re accessible via email, Facebook Messenger, and you can book your non-peak site via our Facebook page. We often answer these enquiries after office hours. Please understand, we are two people running a large park with cleaning and maintenance requirements, so can’t man the office all the time. We’re more than happy to help you make your reservations, but contacting other local businesses because you reach our voicemail and you are super keen to be here is not efficient. Snide comments to staff are not warranted or appreciated. #bekind #bepatient

01.01.2022 How awesome is this door mat? Spotted today as we helped some visitors problem solve some issues with their caravan this afternoon. The freedom that caravanning affords is attracting new visitors, encouraged to explore our own country in the absence of overseas travel availability.... In these difficult times, perspective is everything. If you don’t have a caravan, we do have cabins available too.
