25.01.2022 All hands on deck at Aftershock 26: Girdham vs Moses.

20.01.2022 MMAA SAFEGUARDING FOR COMPETITORS AND PROMOTIONS. MMAA is working for both the competitors and promotions of combat sports to ensure a fair and consistent level of competition. One of the safeguards that have been put in place is regarding Competitor Withdrawals from Nominated Competition. In an attempt to limit the amount of loss a promoter incurs when competitors withdraw from competition (including frustration for the opponent) it was agreed that a Suspension From Compet...ition be enforced. Promoters were in agreement that some competitors were nominating for multiple events within a close timeframe and were injuring themselves/making themselves unavailable for either event. In the event a competitor withdraws from competition due to injury or other personal reasons, the following periods were agreed upon: 1) Where a medical certificate can be provided or for genuine reason (i.e. Death in family/loss or transfer of employment, etc.) a minimum 30day suspension be enforced. 2) Where a medical certificate is not provided or non genuine reason, a 60 day suspension be enforced. The commencement date for the suspension would be from the date of the original agreed competition date. The intention for these recommendations is to work both for the competitors and the promotion. The competitors have an assurance that they will have an opponent for the match, and the promoters have an assurance for a match. As always, unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances can arise without warning and are sometimes unavoidable. But for the situations where competitors withdraw from a match without reason or proof these suspensions will encourage commitment to an agreement to compete.

16.01.2022 2020. NEW YEAR, NEW MEDICALS. A reminder to all combat sport athletes that it is Best Practise to have your annual medicals and biannual serologies completed in January for the upcoming sport season. Make this a habit so that you don’t need to continually ask, Are my medicals up to date?... If you’re unsure, the answer will be No. Remember: No Medicals, no fight. No exceptions. Best of luck to everyone and we will see you in the cage. Pete Hickmott.

16.01.2022 CHANGE TO DEFINITION OF GROUNDED COMPETITOR. Effective Immediately for all MMAA Regulated Mixed Martial Arts events. Please note the follow change to Grounded Competitor definition:... A competitor will be deemed ‘grounded’ when any other part of the body other than the soles of feet comes into contact with the combat area surface in a weight bearing position. Please ensure all athletes are aware of this immediate change. Complete updated rules will be issued on request in due course. Best regards, Peter Hickmott. Secretary & Regulatory Affairs.
