I always think there's some guston and basquiat in his work but really it's just him. There are these motifs I've seen in his work over the couple of decades I have known him, like... plumbing, pipes, ordinary things hinting at not so ordinary things. Things a queer vietnamese-australian b...rown boy living with chronic pain/ might feel. Things that go inside other things. He's won awards and he said this about his paintings: "I prefer a messier subjectivity, something that can contain a multitude of ideas and aspirations ... Recurrent themes seep up in clusters: racial politics, sexual politics and pleasures, (the queering of) native flora and fauna, the body, mortality, my Catholic upbringing, my life as a hyphen - a space in between". Travelling rockers from Brisbane, their ethos is one of spreading love and hope through the doomiest of riffs, encouraging younger bands and a variety of fans in rural and cosmopolitain venues. They're playing on... the 30th of Nov alongside old mates @howlnbones, plus @lucytheband, @sashatheband and The Losers! . . #wyx is a recent colllaborator, inspired to throw a party with us after DJing a set one @dancing_room_adelaide. He's passionate about supporting the beats scene in Adelaide, and has run various events throughout our city. 10.01.2022 It's been a little over a week since we left our Spicy home in Coromandel Pl. Have since heard the landlady is being quite difficult to the next potential tenant for the building. Seems some things don't change. When in the middle of a crisis it is difficult to see the positive fork in your path. When faced with the loss of everything you have grown and fostered and worked towards it is hard to find the blessing in the ashes. Our blessing, it seems, is a fresh start. A cha...nce to reassess. An opportunity to start somewhere else without landowners shifty illegal property maneuvers and money grubbing lies, in a building that doesnt place lives at risk, with a proper business foundation informed by our previous mistakes. It's been a huge 20 months. It's been incredible, and horrible, and stressful and joyful and beautiful and messy. It's been terriyfying. It's been supportive and hopeful. It's been incredibly, shitpantsingly irrevocably, REAL. This part of the journey is at its end. This home is no longer ours, but Art is a home we carry in our hearts. Our office has reformed in the spare room of our directors house. Our stuff is scattered all over Adelaide. Our hearts are tired, aching, and swollen, our brains are sore. Our politicians are destructuve and deluded, but still, we scamper on, hiding in the cracks, resting, plotting, making, creating, surviving. .
