25.01.2022 It is a popular story and common belief that Okinawan farming tools evolved into weapons due to restrictions placed upon the peasants by the ruling samurai clan when the island was made a part of Japan, that forbade them from carrying arms. As a result, it is said, they were defenceless and developed a fighting system around their traditional farming implements Kobud. Traditional weapons include the b, sai, tonfa and nunchaku, to name a few. MKK offers Kobud classes, on... Saturdays 12pm-1pm, with Sensei Peter Wohlfahrt. Send us a message, or give us a call for more information!

23.01.2022 10 YEARS AGO TODAY, Miyagi Kan's very own Kristina Mah (Karate) was crowned WORLD CHAMPION at the 2010 World Championships in Serbia. With Shihan Barounis in her corner, Kristina fought valiantly against the world's best to win the -61kg kumite division becoming Australia's first World Champion in 18 years. This achievement is a truly historic moment for Australia and an equally proud moment for our dojo. Kristina is and been a huge source of inspiration and a role model for many up and coming karate-ka.

21.01.2022 Keep working hard. Repeat one more time. Discipline in the details. Power. Focus. Confidence. Determination. Teamwork. Miyagi Kan Karate.

04.01.2022 Each person's karate journey is unique, but there are many similarities that connect karate-ka together. Achieving a Black Belt is often the first big test for us. At first, we might think that black belt is where we are going, the final destination. And for some, it is. And it is a big feat in itself! Ask any of the 1st Kyus who did their grading last month But what we realise when we finally tie our black belts on, is that this is only the first peak to climb. And when we... reach the top, we see that being a black belt is the door to the next level of learning and more peaks and challenges await us. One of our dear mums Katrina, posted this about her son Blake and we couldn't help but share with you! "Blake started karate in Oct 2013 at the age of 6 years old. Three weeks ago he sat his Black Belt grading. 13.5 hours later he passed. Blake's journey has only just begun "

03.01.2022 "Karate cannot be quickly learned. Like a slow-moving bull, it eventually travels a thousand miles. If one trains diligently every day, then in three or four ye...ars one will come to understand karate. Those who train in this fashion will discover karate." - from Tode Jutsu by Anko Itosu, October 1908 (on the photo. Sensei Chojun Miyagi and his pupils in Naha city, Okinawa) See more
