05.01.2022 How I became a tattooist I was a calligrapher before I even know what it was I began to paint 24 yrs ago I’ll be posting pics I owned an art supplies shop and ran painting classes for over 7 yrs... I took time out and closed the shop to look after my nieces 13 yrs ago while the Ekka was on my daughters friend who calls me Ma said hey Ma you should learn to tattoo you would be really good at it (they had come home from the Ekka with spray on tattoos lol) And so it began I got some equipment googled and researched decided I needed someone to teach me how to setup the machines, so I visited several tattoo shops in Brisbane only to be told F*k off Don’t you have kids to go home and look after Your too old, f*k off Where are your f*king tattoos I was dumbfounded and that just strengthened my resolve Not one of them asked about my art or abilities to draw etc I went to several tattoo shows in Brisbane and Sydney and a woman heard me trying to ask tattooists if they would teach me and spoke to me letting me know it was no good to ask cause I was an outsider So I googled Tattoo schools And found a few in other counties I got on a plane and off I went for 3 months and learnt to tattoo off an award winning artist in another country And now I’ve been tattooing for 10yrs The koi tattoo that I’ve posted with this post was the 5th tattoo I ever did Oh and I learnt every aspect of the trade and made all the needle sets used by myself and 10 other people during the 3 months I was learning I learnt with electric machines but have been using pneumatic machines for over 7 yrs now so I can tattoo people with pace makers I’ve had people faint, cry, scream and epileptic fits I deal with each situation as it occurs I don’t freak out or freeze I’ve had people travel from other counties to get tattoos off me and lots have traveled from other states in Australia I love tattooing it’s my passion Thankyou Karmen and Racheal And a big thankyou to those who have been a part of my tattooing journey See more
