22.01.2022 If something doesn't look right or you don't know what a substance is, get it checked before you start work. Any business that may have asbestos must conduct an Asbestos Audit and maintain a register and control the risk exposure to workers. Employers have a duty of care to do this, again this is legislated in the OHS regulations. If you may have asbestos you need to engage an Asbestos Qualified expert. This can't be swept under the carpet!

Employers are required to provide information (eg Code of Conduct policy and grievance procedure), instruction, training (eg appropriate workplace behaviour information session) and supervision to their employees so that they are not exposed to psychological risk factors that may lead to work-related stress. Refer to Section 19(1)(b) Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984.

06.01.2022 Workers get sick days when they are sick. The government is considering allowing employees to buy there sick leave to get a 'pay rise'. Workers should be prepared for less pay if they do take a sick day. After all if you have no sick leave how do you get paid? What do you think? Will it just encourage people to go to work sick, thus exacerbating the problem?
