24.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW... Gut bacteria manufacture about 95% of the body's supply of serotonin, which influences both mood and GI activity. New research has been released suggesting the combination of the supplement SAMe and the probiotic strain bacteria Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) HEAL9 may rapidly alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.... 90 patients with mild to moderate depression to received either SAMe plus L. plantarum HEAL9 or placebo for 6 weeks and found significant reductions in depression, anxiety, and cognitive symptoms as early as 2 weeks following treatment initiation. It is very important that you’re under the guidance of a practitioner when supplement with any supplements that have a direct affect on serotonin and that you are as honest as you can be about your medical history as SAMe can cause adverse reactions with the following: Antidepressants and other drugs and supplements that increase levels of serotonin including antipsychotics, amphetamines, narcotics or St Johns Wort or Dextromethorphan. Taking SAMe along side any of these above medications or supplements can cause serotonin syndrome; This happens when your body has build up of serotonin. Too much serotonin can lead to extreme nerve cell activity and dangerous symptoms. : unknown source (not mine) #depression #anxiety #serotonin #guthealth #mood #cognitivefunction #naturopath #nutritionist #melbourne #counsellor #mentalhealth #mentalhealthadvocate See more

13.01.2022 Very exciting news guys .. The TGA recently announced, along with many other changes, that it will be requiring a new warning to appear on labels of all products containing cheaply used and poorly absorbed, inorganic forms of magnesium that deliver more than 350mg of elemental magnesium per dose. This means that it will be much easier to tell which supplements are using bio available forms of magnesium, giving you better overall results. ... The warning will have to state state: 'Contains magnesium, which may cause diarrhoea'. Interestingly, however, this warning will not apply to magnesium citrate as this form of magnesium is recognised by the TGA as being well absorbed and thus unlikely to cause diarrhoea when taken orally. So, why is this important for you? Why should we be using magnesium? Here are some facts about magnesium and its use: The recommended daily intakes (RDIs) for magnesium in adolescents, adult men and women, and pregnant women are between 360 to 420mg every day for healthy individuals not at risk of magnesium deficiency. For those at risk of magnesium deficiency, additional supplementation may be required. Magnesium plays numerous fundamental roles in the body. It is important for the structure of bones, mitochondria, DNA and RNA. Magnesium is a calcium antagonist, inhibiting the release and action of calcium-induced ‘excitatory’ transmitters, such as adrenaline, noradrenaline, acetylcholine, prostaglandins, bradykinin and histamine Magnesium is a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation. 09.01.2022 Did you know that our Mental health and physical health are very closely linked .. There’s evidence every where that shows us that emotional as well as physical stress can cause inflammation in the body We so often associate the brain with the production of serotonin, but 95% of serotonin is produced in the gut! ... Physical stress from illness or other physical misalignments have a profound impact on our brain, thoughts and even emotion. Our total body reacts to external stressors and on the opposite scale, internal cognitions or gut feelings produce our own internal stressors. Dysfunction of the body through poor diet, obesity, infection, inflammation and illness all lead to depression and negative thought processes as well. Our beliefs, emotions and behaviours can build bodily health or they can be just as toxic to us as illness or environmental pesticides. Here are just 3 ways you can work on improving your emotions, behaviours and mental state today, having a rippling effect to your physical wellbeing FOR FREE IN COMMENTS PHOTO: WILSONS PROM HIKE 2018 (PLACES ID RATHER BE)

06.01.2022 I am so excited this morning to receive an email from Vital.ly with some awesome new studies suggesting Curcumin plays a key role in assisting with anxiety and depression Read more about how and why below Given that depression is generally associated with inflammation and oxidative stress, the beneficial effects of curcumin in the pathophysiology of depression and anxiety are largely to do with its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. ... Other biological effects of curcumin involve its effect on serotonin and dopamine release, in the inhibition of monoamine oxidase (MAO) and in the regulation of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Curcumin increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) compared with placebo treatment in depressed patients, suggesting that curcumins' antidepressant activity is mediated via the HPA axis and BDNF signalling pathway, which are often dysregulated in people with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. If you are taking any prescriptive medicines , always make sure you’re checking with your practitioner before supplementing with herbs. It’s a very common misconception that natural products can’t interact as they’re only herbal and I hear this all too much! : unknown (not mine) #anxiety #depression #mood #inflammation #cognitivefunction #depressed #depressivemood #melbourne #counsellor #naturopath #health #healthgram #healthspo #braingains See more
