08.01.2022 Complaints about rooftop solar panels have jumped markedly as more Victorians have taken up cheap offers in the booming green energy market, largely about faulty units, poor installation, service delays and difficulty in cancelling contacts. The more serious complaints have been made over sales of defective equipment and failure to honour contracts. Consumer Affairs Victoria director Claire Noone said solar suppliers flooding the market in recent years led to some aggressive marketing tactics, misleading practices and substandard products

03.01.2022 The acting commander of Fire Investigation and Analysis at Melbourne's Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB), Steve Attard, says homes can be destroyed in fires that have been caused by rooftop solar systems. "We always see the worst-case scenario." He knows of 25 fires in the Melbourne metropolitan area in the past five years that were started by problems with rooftop solar.... "Australian consumers are notorious, and known overseas, for caring a lot about price and not caring about quality, and when that happens you get the cheaper product. And the cheaper product is not the better-performing product."
